    As a Luton fan yes I am biased! But 100% a top 6 finish will be the target and expectation from the board who did great to keep Rob Edwards on - he did OK in the Prem, he was never expected to survive it, but now back in the championship I wouldn't want anyone else, there has been a couple of decent signings already from Arsenal and Brentford, slight concern with injuries currently, Chong and hopefully Brown will be back in time, if we can keep Doughty, Adebayo and Morris I feel we will be strong and pushing for top 2. Looking forward to the new season, cheers Ben, great video!

    Good analysis Benjamin. Grew up in Scotland, moved to London for 7 years and then Luton since 1984. Every time you say Luton it cracks me up because I can never say it like that. My son does though 😁 We will get promoted. The club is on solid ground , not sand like some others. Enjoy the journey of 24/25.

    As a Sheffield United fan, i dont know whether they will get promoted or not, but i can tell you never rule them out, and on their day, they can win any team in the league

    This year is going to be extraordinarily competitive even more than last year, and it will be the first year that we finish the league in a position lower than the previous season for about 8 years. A lot will depend on what happens between now and the close of the transfer window even then I would expect the top 8. The club is going to be more interested is using the parachute payments on building facilities for the long term prosperity, such as the stadium at Power Court and the improvements to the academy set up with indoor training facilities.

      I don't think it will be as tough as last year. Leicester and Southampton were both well established Premier League club (about ten years each) when they were relegated after a bad season. Add a promoted Ipswich team with a performance of a kind that only comes along once a decade, if that, and a resurgent Leeds -- a big club who finally found competent ownership and management, and no other team got a look-in on the top four all season.
      This season it's more likely only one or two teams will run out ahead and a significantly lower points total will get you automatic promotion. It could still be tough to remain in the promotion hunt at the end of the season, but I expect the top four spots will see a bunch of teams in there as the season progresses.

    I honestly think we'll be right up there competing for the autos unless there is a mad exodus. We have the know how with players and manager and will be stronger than when we went up through the play offs. My only concern is the creativity in midfield but fill that and we have enough quality all over the pitch COYH🧡

    Always prefer to be written off or underestimated. Not been favourites for much since the conference days and that didn't come to fruition for a while. Would love to avoid the play offs and go up automatically, but suspect it will be the playoffs.

      @@MadHatter1980 Yes, at the start of the season where we finished 3rd (2022/23) in the Championship and went up via the playoffs, it was the usual #teamslikeluton. I'd much rather us not be consistently predicted to be in the top 3 by the end, but if we are to do it I'd rather go up auto. The play-off final was amazing but nerve-wracking as hell, and having failed at them six times previously I'd prefer to avoid them. Of course, there's also the possibility that we don't even get into the play-offs (or higher), so no smug predictions that any of this is definite from me!!

    I’m watching Rob Edward’s managerial career with great interest. He was extremely highly regarded within the setup at Molineux when he was a coach and had a couple of good spells as caretaker manager. I would definitely like to see him do well, and then maybe in a few years come back home as the first team manager, and complete the journey from former player to head coach at Molineux, which hasn’t been done for a long time.

    Good video Ben. What caused Luton problems last year was the high amount of long term injuries and the shock of losing Captain Tom Lockyer - I believe it was 15 long term injuries altogether. I think that Sheff United and Leeds will have a poor year this year and underperform. Lutons main problem is the midfield where we let Luke Berry and Ross Barkley go. We need to clear out the old wood in midfield and start again in my opinion. If we can do that then I can see automatics this season.

    • @EnglishMike
      @EnglishMike 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Leeds are far better placed to start this season than they were last season. Settled side, settled manager, and settled owners that seem to know what they're doing. Very unlikely they'll be out of the top two for long this season. Sheffield United, on the other hand, are experiencing a lot of churn in their squad. You could be right about that one.

  • @nicktomlin9137
    @nicktomlin9137 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    As you say, Ben, logically, we have a slightly better squad that took us up last time. We have Walters and Baptiste already signed and more, hopefully to come. We do need to sort out the defence, as in its goal leakage and injury fragility. The midfield needs a couple adding still. So we have a good chance. I would be very disappointed if we were outside the top six and should be in the top four with Leeds being the other club. Will Sheffield Utd be in there as well🤔.
    I think Adeybayo is our gem. 10 goals in an injury hit Premier League season. Morris with 11, but a few of them were penalties. All the talk of McAtee leaving, so i expect reasonable money for him, and keep an eye on Taylor next season. He could be a real gem for us. COYH

    Luton are still a couple of players short, but I’m fully expecting the top premier league young players to start going out on loan in the next couple of weeks as all the clubs come back from tours having assessed their squads and I think the quality of those couple of loans they can get will decided the ceiling on the season. I also still expect them to lose 1 or 2 Adebayo and Menghi most likely to go. This final few weeks will be very interesting

    Luton went up in the role of the underdog. That's different now, and despite the parachute money they haven't really got an expensive squad. Whilst I can understand their reluctance to splash the cash this strategy can also backfire. Other teams look stronger than them, so if they go straight back up I think it'll have to be via the play-offs again. Likewise I wouldn't be surprised if they only finish 7th or 8th. Good luck anyway.

    I think the sad state of affairs is that any promoted side from championship who is regulated from Premier league but "not by a lot of points" is considered not a bad season. Sheffield United considered poor season by most and Luton good season "all things considered" by most. This new reality makes for a bad Premier league and why EFL is so much more compelling and better to follow. The parachute payments are starting to do the same to the championship slowly and hence why lower leagues are more and more interesting. Something needs to change!

    • @geoffpoole483
      @geoffpoole483 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      EFL is more interesting to follow and deserves more media coverage. Most people would regard Sheffield United and Burnley as "bigger" clubs than Luton and would probably expect them to stay up in the PL. Luton has had a different journey; it crashed out of the EFL a few seasons ago and considering its recent history just getting to the PL was an achievement. Although they were relegated they proved a lot of doubters wrong- many pundits thought they'd have a worse points total than Derby's measly total of 17. It's pretty obvious which clubs will be competing for the top six places in the PL, but as far as the EFL'S concerned it's anybody's guess.

    As a Luton fan (since the mid 1980s), I am both wary and baffled by most people putting us in the top 6 or even top 2. There are at least 8-10 clubs in the championship that have stronger squads than Luton's. Also, I feel last year's relegation put a stop to the positive momentum built up since promotion from non-league 10 years ago. And it may seem strange to say for a manager entering his third year at a club (one of which included promotion to the PL), but I'm not sure if I know what a Rob Edwards team is. The promotion year was pretty much built on the back of a Nathan Jones team, and last year felt like like a Ross Barkly team. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but I would take finishing 12-15th. Great videos as always, Ben.

      Last year if anything put Luton on the map and made it a more attractive alternative for players. Both young up and coming, and veterans who wants a second chance. I'm betting on top six. The team is solid, hard working and has good chemistry. No divas allowed.
