Would be nice to see a re-issue of the Cobain Mustang replicas they did about 10 years ago. Played it in a guitar store once and it sounded amazing, way better than the Jaguar replica and the build quality was fantastic.
I bought a left-handed JagStang and play it upside down. I figured it was a fitting tribute to Kurt and how he played many of his early guitars upside down (mostly out of necessity lol) 🤘🏼
There are only these distinct modes: 1. Bridge only (bridge pickup switch either LEFT or RIGHT; neck pickup switch MIDDLE) 2. Neck only (neck pickup switch either LEFT or RIGHT; bridge pickup switch MIDDLE) 3. Both pickups in phase (both pickup switches facing the same direction, either LEFT or RIGHT) 4. Both pickups out of phase (the pickup switches are in opposite positions [no matter if they face the middle or the outer edges]) 5. No pickups on (both switches in their middle positions).
Small correction. In mode #3, it DOES MATTER if you move both pickup switches to LEFT or RIGHT. It will give you two different sounds. I thought it didn't matter which way you move them, as long as they are both in phase, but my ears have proved me wrong. At least, that's how it works on my Mustang. The Jagstang uses the same pickup setup so I assume that it works the same way.
Oh wow yeah I remember Kurt's tasty " Blues Licks" and his Blues inspired playing. I'm so glad this reviewer didn't demonstrate what this guitar sounded like covering Grunge or Garage Rock which we all know Kurt hated, he was a Blues Man and often sited Joe Blow Bono.ossa and SRV as his primary influences. I only wish this reviewer would have demonstrated some Nashvle Country " licks" on this guitar I can definitely see Marty Stuart or Brad Paisley using this guitar can't you ? Nothing like hearing some bland Blues Licks by a reviewer in fact the only thing better is going to Guotar Center and listening to some Dad blasting Blues Runs on an Ibanez Shred Machine at ear splitting levels however since that is so rare and hardly ever happens tune in to this Schmo
I saw one in person recently. It does have an orange/ rust colored primer look to it. I wouldn’t call it fiesta red. It is a cool color! The guitar looks a lot better in person.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting y'all, but... "It hasn't been seen since 1993" This is the 3rd production run of this guitar. "It came out in 1993" Not to the public. That's when Kurt got his. The rest of us wouldn't get one until years later. Japanese production started in latter half of 95, with most deliveries happening in early 96. Also - this gets left out of many of the reviews, but these (at least in the 90s) come with a whammy bar, which was to claw back some of the Jaguar style versatility to it so you could play power chords but also some My Bloody Valentine or Dinosaur Jr. etc. It's loose fitting so a lot of them have been lost on the used market.
Nice guitar and the playing fit the voicing of the guitar. I had a couple duo Sonics but then switched to mustang's because the offset is a tad further towards the rear and fit my playing style better. Haven't tried a jag. I'd like to try one of these. Would need to be a hardtail because I'm anti-trem.
I always found it weird that Kurt preferred the smaller guitars. He had huge hands. He wasn’t a big guy physically but he’s got oddly disproportionate hands.
Can you downtune these ok with the shortened neck? I’d like the option to play some drop b# but the short scale might make the strings feel like rubber bands.
The materials are really similar to the player series stuff and it’s even made in Mexico. No matter how much I want this guitar I can’t believe it’s so highly priced in comparison to those guitars. Really disappointed ☹️
Well when you think the fingerboard is rosewood instead of pau ferro, it’s a signature model which is always more, it’s a unique guitar and it’s a collectible I think it’s nearly worth it
@@preston_4824 that's just the lead singers stage name. It's a tribute to Nirvana. Look at smells like team spirit video, Dave Groll is much younger than foo fighters lead singer.
Those weren't Kurt's favorite guitars. They were the only affordable and readily available left handed Fenders. That's why he played Jaguars and Mustangs.
@@panagiotisatsalis9321 Newly produced Mustangs were cheap compared to Fender's other offerings - they were intended as Fender's line of affordable student guitars. Jazzmasters were intended as flagship guitars - top of the line - when they were introduced, but they did not appeal to the intended audience of jazz guitarists. Instead, some surf rockers used them. After feedback on improvements mainly from surf rockers, Fender introduced the Jaguar, also intended as a premium guitar. They had limited success among surf rockers but not much with others - Strats were cheaper and seen by most as more desirable. Comparatively few successful artists in the 1970s and 1980s played Jazzmasters or Jaguars, Elvis Costello being an exception in the 1970s. Some New Wave and punk bands used them in the 1980s (The Cure, Sonic Youth), but they were pretty rare. In the middle to late 1980s during the era of hair metal and shred, vintage offset guitars like Jaguars and Jazzmasters had fallen completely out of fashion among mainstream guitarists. This is when many alternative artists bought them in pawnshops. It made sense - they were inexpensive, but still better quality than most import guitars, and to most people they looked quirky, which fit the outsider image. After the alternative scene broke into the mainstream in the very late 80s/early 1990s, offset guitars became attractive again, and have never really been out of fashion again.
"interesting pickups" .. I can tell you the pickups on my OG 96' Jagstang were probably the worst i've ever heard. Long sense replaced with with a SD JB and serviceable single coil.
I was never crazy about the shape until I held one. It's balanced so well. It sits on my leg balanced flat almost up to 45 degrees. Coming from a less Paul that I constantly fight with, this thing was a dream to play.
Im sorry but that thing is ugly. People only like it because kurt played it but he only had it because it was cheap from a pawn shop and now people pay big money for it when he would be against that lol. Just making the billionaires more money
Oh hell yes. I still think Cobain was an underrated guitar player. Impeccable sense of rhythm and, of course, killer songwriting skills.
A natural.
I agree, simple is ok as long as it’s not boring. Not to mention a lot of nirvana songs aren’t very simple
Agreed!
I'm 62 and just bought the JagStang this week! I'm teaching myself how to play through online sources and love this guitar!
Good luck with you guitar playing.
How’s the learning going
How are the lessons and the journey going ?
Wow nice keep us posted on here how you get on 👍🏻
Lol You guys begging her 😅😂
Chris: "Nevermind came out when I was in middle school."
Cooper: "I wasn't even born."
Chris: _pretends he didn't hear that_

Those cleans sounds are sweet and jangly. I'm really likin' this guitar.
It didn't came out in 1993. It came out in 1996/97 earliest I am sure. I have the original guitar magazine introducing it.

"I was in freshman year when kurt lost his life, notice how I frazed it that way" you sire have me dead
Good way to put since we both know dame well he was murdered. Just like Cornell, Chester and many others.
Thank you for doing the orange version!! Needed to see it in person 😍
Fiesta Red

i wanted to thank Jasmine at Alamo, she helped me get one of these in fiesta red today, i cant wait to get it!!!!!!
“notice i phrased it that way” love u for that. ur based as fuck
The best guitar is the one you will play every day.
"notice how I phrased it like that" LMAO

Lol anti trem that's funny, I can relate probably because I have one
Clean pickups combinations in order of playing: both, bridge, both (out of phase), neck.
That is what I will tell my music teacher next week: I bought my first guitar to plan some grungy punk alternative kind of stuff, doh.
"The bass player is tall but not that tall"
Krist Novoselic is 6'7"
And Kurt wasn't so small, He was very thin but 5'8.5" is about average height. It just looks worse because Grohl's 6'00" and Novoselic is 6'7"
Finally us lefties have something new from Fender 😁
My dream guitar
The Jag-Stang wasn't mass produced until 96.
I always found it weird that Kurt preferred the smaller guitars. He had huge hands. He wasn’t a big guy physically but he’s got oddly disproportionate hands.
Yes he did. I think he liked them cause they weren’t heavy compared to others.
This was a $450 guitar when first released

Think it would be a nightmare in b
Think so too
I wonder if this thing can do what a Telecaster or a strat can do ?
Great Guitar 🎸
lmao the low key courtney murder accusation
we all know she did it or either had someone do it lol
Where is the left handed review?
Where is this made? Mexico?
Yeah. I guess Fender Japan is just for the Japanese market now.
Guitar came out in 1995 and 2003
But has t been seen since … 1993?

Single people, find a person who looks at you the way Cooper looks at the Jag-Stang.
Not gonna lie, it made me uncomfortable!
The lead singer from Foo Fighters really does look a lot like the drummer from Nirvana.
Do you think they know each other?
Oddly enough they have the same names aswell what a coincidence
Nah bro, it's your imagination
Old ass joke
@@preston_4824 that's just the lead singers stage name. It's a tribute to Nirvana. Look at smells like team spirit video, Dave Groll is much younger than foo fighters lead singer.

A mustang and a jaguar are much more expensive than a strat or a tele

93? thought it was released after his dead in like 96. Then they rereleased it in like 2004
You are correct 95/96
Not sure what year in the 2000's they reissued it but it was early 2000's
I think he was referring to when kurt got it
"interesting pickups" .. I can tell you the pickups on my OG 96' Jagstang were probably the worst i've ever heard. Long sense replaced with with a SD JB and serviceable single coil.
The Cobain signature Jag is way nicer
so tired of guitar demos with the same old bluesy licks lol... something grungy would have been far more appropriate for this demo
Check out the Trogly’s guitar show demo.
This shape is so ugly I just can't, at least it sounds half decent
I was never crazy about the shape until I held one. It's balanced so well. It sits on my leg balanced flat almost up to 45 degrees. Coming from a less Paul that I constantly fight with, this thing was a dream to play.
Well... I don't want to throw it in a bonfire, but.......
Yes, Grohl was the drummer.
Krist is 6'7
Great stuff!
Looking for new chill music to get you through the day? I just uploaded 10 new songs to my channel. Would love to know what you think!
Dude no Nirvana bending .... sheeesh!!! Lame
I was looking for these exact specs 40mm nut and 24 inch scale. found it.... but fuck that is one UGLY ass guitar. no symmetry in anything about it.
Not very pleasing to the eye. Yikes!!
Needs to be held to appreciate. You quickly like the shape because of how nice it is to play.

It's one of the ugliest guitars ever made. Even Kurt didn't like it.
IMO I think its really unique looking I dig it
It's beautiful man, kinda reminds me of that melted looks of mosrites
Not necessarily true. He just never got to finish tweaking it
