Vivien Leigh plays this scene so brilliantly---she's trying to maintain her facade of decorum but when she sneaks that look at Brando with his shirt off you can tell she's MASSIVELY turned on---in spite of the fact that she wants to appear "prim" and "proper." Throughout the film---despite her fear and loathing of Stanley this sexual tension is ALWAYS in the air!! What a powerhouse film---still one of the all-time greats!! "Streetcar" was literally 20 years ahead of it's time---this type of subject matter was simply UNHEARD of in early 1950's American cinema!!
nick jolie well of course the character was, but I think Vivien Leigh the actress herself was a bit turned on when she saw Brando shirtless and almost broke character for a bit.
After seeing most of Brando's movies, I have changed my perception on what a man is supposed to be. The modern Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp cannot even compare..in artistic talent or in masculinity. Brando knew how to use him good looks and make it look natural on screen. He will always be remembered.
intr-adevar. he was a hell of a man ;) pana si barbatii care nu sunt gay pot aprecia frumusetea in forma ei pura , sex-appeal-ul si sarmul cand este vizibil cu ochiul liber din alta galaxie. din pacate nu prea mai exista asemenea barbati in generatia prezenta :)
One of the reasons this movie still stands up is because how contrasting Marlon and Vivien's performances are. They seem to be acting from alternate universes, which gives the movie this very effectively surreal vibe. Both of their work was important to the film's success.
I started having a crush on this dead man reCently after seeing a street car named desire. He was mos def ONE of the sexiest..i can think of a few others
Marlon and Vivien are simply amazing. I'm only 19 years old and I can fully agree that this acting is a hellavah lot better than a lot of the people in Hollywood today. I can actually feel the tension between them; it's entrancing. Marlong is PERFECT for Stanley because he emits this raw, sexual charisma. I was drolling the second he came on screen. And Vivien...I could see on her face she was pretty enraptured herself. Awesome acting. 5 stars.
My God, despite all the (not-so-good) stuff I've read about Marlon, I can't help having a crush on him everytime I see him in his prime, particularly, in this scene. It's just that, he was so talented and devastatingly good looking that, I forget everything.
completely agree...how is it that after all these years of thousands and thousands of movies and roles...is this performance still style of acting still prominent and relative to us? His method of acting was truly of classic...this to me was the birth of 'cool'
When he sees Blanche for the first time the look on his face seems so genuine, just right & not over-done like most actors would. If I met Marlon while he was alive I would have so many questions about the choices he made on screen. What a loss- RIP
Leigh and Brando's performances are among the best ever filmed in this movie. I think it's easier for actors to disappoint in great roles than meager one. Certainly, they did not disappoint.
Oh me, oh my.... I know many people don't mean it when they say something like that, but this is seriously the sexiest man I've EVER seen. Guess I was born in the wrong decade. :((
that's literally my MOOD as well! 😱 young Marlon is the ONLY time in my life that has made me TRULY shook and made me SERIOUSLY think I was born in the wrong era TOO! what a DROP DEAD GORGEOUS babe he WAS! 🔥🥵🔥🥵 watching him in this movie makes me REALLY sad he's not around anymore 😥 I will always be in LOVE with young Marlon tho in my opinion he IS my ideal husband material as Stanley Kowalski 🔥🥵🔥🥵
That nod from 1:44 - 1:46 spoke volumes. Marlon Brando's acting was just amazing. You can't help but be drawn to him in this movie and although his character was not the best, you can sort of understand why it was so hard for Stella to leave him. Brando exuded that raw, sexy masculinity. It made it easier for him to really BECOME his character.
Indeed. He was a hell of a guy :) and this comes from a man that is not "gay" (me) but i can appreciate the beauty of a human. Some of us are just jealous we are not handsome like him lol
I love this movie and I love the play.. Leigh has been good in every movie.. she was the perfekt Scarlett and the perfekt Blanche. M.B is one of the best actor ever..
I watched this for English and I didn't know it was Marlon Brando until I read the video cassette. Now I know why everyone fell in love with him. Holy mother of GOD.
Ms Leigh is lights out as Blanche. Notice how she delivers some lines with her eyebrow lifting in expression. Timeless cast and what can one say Alex North's score changed it all ...forever!
Marlon was one cool and good looking guy! of course he gained a lot of weight later in his life, but he never lost his charisma and his coolness! i absolutely love his style in The Wild One (1953). and i think his performences in A Street Care Named Desire, One The Waterfront and The Godfather are one of the most epic in film history!
I LUV him in a streetcar 🔥🥵 the Wild One is great too! 🔥😏 I think Marlon's encounter with Vivien in a streetcar is the HOTTEST movie chemistry moment of all TIME! Mar TOTALLY deserved the Oscar too for a streetcar named desire 🔥🥵
I agree that Brando oozes raw masculine sexuality and could single-handedly disarm the entire women's movement with that thing that all women (and many men) want. His sex appeal is undeniable. HOWEVER, it is Vivien Leigh as Blanche whom I can't take my eyes off. Her signs of encroaching madness are deeply sad and disturbing. As charismatic as Brando is, Leigh had the much more complex role as Blanche. I have never seen a character as delicate, as seduced by "the other side" as Blanche DuBois.
This movie is a masterpiece. The actors are great (personally, I love Vivien's performance). and the score is beautiful, very sexy. ...and the way Marlon smiles and looks at her after his (sexy and very good) cat meowing is, simply, breathtaking. Definitely, there is no other like him.
Yesterday I saw this movie for the first time and Marlon just blew me away. His acting is so natural, and combined with that body... There are no words!
agreed! that 10 second mark is where i fell in love! We got shown this clip in a lecture once, i could instantly hear whispering and jaws dropping! oh GOD so pretty i wanna cry!
if I saw this in school ALL I mean ALL of my classmates would've laughed at me because I'd be in total AWE and my mouth would be open and they'd be like she's in love with Stanley lol but I'd be like DAMN straight I am! 😂😏🔥🥵😳
Ah, not only did actors have timeless beauty back then, they had the raw talent to show they where not just pretty faces. So many of our so called "most beautiful" and "amazing actors" are not even that attractive or even particularly talented. Leigh and Brando blow most of our most celebrated actresses and actors today out of the water!
Lotta comments about how hot and great an actor he was... I'd like to point out how great a bloke he was too - lived his life with such playfulness, curiousity and compassion. One of the most fascinating people of the twentieth century bar none...
The first time I saw this my jaw dropped because up to that point I had scene Brando in THe Godfather films after that. But I saw this and he took his shirt off I was thinking the same thing Vivien Leigh may have thought: "Cold shower now!"
Mr. Brando is gone now and he would be old enough to be my great grandpa, but a young Brando good damn. He just oozes that raw masculine sexuality that makes a womans ovaries explode and thought of having your hair pulled and being ravished all night can make you weak. As a straight woman there is nothing sexier than a man like that.
Glad you brought this up. After playing Stanley, Brando was hit on by lots of females who wanted 'some rough house' as Stanley would say. Sometimes out of frustration he oblidged. Other females wanted him because he was Marlon Brando the hottest new star. 'You wouldn't be interested in me if I was a truck driver,' he said to one. 'Of course not!' she replied. With that contradiction, no wonder he had so many women troubles.
I'm studying this in English Lit & Lang for A2, I saw the pictures of Marlon and I just had to TH-cam some footage for myself.. he looks SO hot, plus I can't wait to watch the movie in class :D
So did the actors I mentioned. They were already changing the face of acting before with their abilities to make their characters "alive, real and believable" as well. Brando even idolized Clift and was hugely influenced by him. Brando just got more exposure because, along with his phenomenal performance, there was also the topnotch cast, direction, and critical acclaim of a huge hit like "Streetcar."
The most handsome, talented and sexiest man to ever walk on Earth. God bless him.
EXACTLY how I feel! God bless him! 😂🔥😏🥵😳
Yeah, Marlon is the ultimate sex kitten! 😊😊😊❤❤❤ Love him! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Dude just defined masculinity in 2 minutes and 5 seconds.
Young Marlon Brando was a GOD
Marlon's body...Holy Jesus!!!Wow !!! This man was such an Adonis !!!
Every girl acted like this around Brando
I think she was just uncomfortable...Not in any way turned on,For Blanche Stanley was an animal.
nick jolie well of course the character was, but I think Vivien Leigh the actress herself was a bit turned on when she saw Brando shirtless and almost broke character for a bit.
I would've straight up swooned 😂 Stan was SOO GORGEOUS! 🔥😏
Also i preach for Tennesee Williams, the script writer of this movie. He have such a brilliant mind
His cat screech makes the scene!
Thank the Lord for Marlon Brando.
After seeing most of Brando's movies, I have changed my perception on what a man is supposed to be. The modern Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp cannot even compare..in artistic talent or in masculinity. Brando knew how to use him good looks and make it look natural on screen. He will always be remembered.
He's gorgeous ... not a doubt about it
I think he was BEYOND GORGEOUS! 🔥😏 I would've DIED 😳 if I we're Blanche here! 😂😏🔥😳🥵
sweet lord jesus young Marlon was breath-taking and just oozed with natural sensuality. No one did it like him.
I've watched this scene over 200 times. I may need help!!!
+crikeymos2 .. same, can t stop watching his face :)) when he does that cats sound :)) JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD STUNNING!!
@@pisiata3651 Iti place , nebunatico ! :D

There is only One Brando.
that's SOO true! 🔥😏🔥😳🔥🥵
Lord...
He had amazing talent. Truly a wonderful actor and a very very good looking man too.
Is there anything sexier than Brando chewing that gum and working it all over the room?
NOPE
I started having a crush on this dead man reCently after seeing a street car named desire. He was mos def ONE of the sexiest..i can think of a few others
Unless you hear him meow!
NOTHING. HE IS YUMMY 😋
@@kristinwalz8878 SAME!! I have a crush on him too and he passed.
i could watch this movie a thousand times in a row and never get sick of it.... AMAZING!
so beautiful. can't handle young marlon brando.
He's probably the most beautiful man ever.
OMG I am going to invent a time machine just so I can go back and meet young Marlon Brando!
that would be SUCH a heavenly DREAM! he was EVERYTHING! 😳🔥🥵
Marlon and Vivien are simply amazing. I'm only 19 years old and I can fully agree that this acting is a hellavah lot better than a lot of the people in Hollywood today. Sexual tension all over the place...
I think this is the sexiest cinema chemistry scene of ALL time to EVER BLESS my eyes! 🔥🥵
Nothing has sounded sexier than that cat screech mimic.
My God.
This man is fierce..Damn. Every walk, script line, expression, and gesture Marlon makes oozes sexy.
Her Stella is so painful to watch. Vivian Leigh and Marlon Brando...there are NO actors like these today. Truly breathtaking to watch.
Man. Also, Marlon said in his book that he was thinking of hooking up with Vivien, but thought Oliver was too good of a guy so he didn't
*****
lol maybe it was because he HAD olivier
qqbbrwo11 yeah, Marlon did reveal about his bisexuality.
snillocgrom
Yea experimented with men but wasn't really bisexual thgg.
jokesterr119 sorry but if you're willing to experiment then you're somewhere in the mid section on the Kinsey Scale.
Which book?

he was unique, wonderful actor, but also a beautiful human being.
this is the most heart-stopping moment in the history of cinema
never a greater star introduction
nobody else comes close
omg Brando...
Leigh and Brando's performances are among the best ever filmed in this movie. I think it's easier for actors to disappoint in great roles than meager one. Certainly, they did not disappoint.
"Mr. Dean appears to be wearing my last year's wardrobe and using my last year's talent" - Marlon Brando. Enough Said. Enough.
I literally cannot handle this
Man, that guy could be a contender!
This is one of my favorites at The Movies and also Theater Master Art Piece on films
Oh me, oh my.... I know many people don't mean it when they say something like that, but this is seriously the sexiest man I've EVER seen. Guess I was born in the wrong decade. :((

What a hunk! Wish he was our generation's young actor.
Please Marlon, get as comfortable as possible... 😜
1:33 Blanche's hand moves like she's considering unbuttoning her blouse....
Sometimes being shy and at a loss for words is adorable!
What a beautiful man! :) I love this movie, I just do...

I love Brando's cat. Miau
that kind of hotness must be illegal!!! marlon brandooooo
they are both one of the best ever actors..and this two have so much chemistry
I love this movie and I love the play.. Leigh has been good in every movie.. she was the perfekt Scarlett and the perfekt Blanche.

I fell in LOVE with him watching the film 🔥😳 Stanley was SUCH a ravishing guy 🥵😏
If I were Blanche and he looked at me like that, I would have been on my knees....yep....lol
Yes Brando comes off incredibly naturalistic, like he's living the moment.
Man, he was looking at her up and down. One word, wow!
I would be in love with him lol 🔥😏
oh my god he is gorgeous! i love his smile :)
he had such a beautiful smile! 😳
i love the way he does the cat sound
Omg....they don't make em like Brando anymore :(.
He had it all; charm, social consciousness, sex appeal and major talent.
the two greatest side by side performances in history
Lotta comments about how hot and great an actor he was... I'd like to point out how great a bloke he was too - lived his life with such playfulness, curiousity and compassion. One of the most fascinating people of the twentieth century bar none...
Oh, Brando... We miss you.
He is my hero. I worship him.
For those wondering about the background song ; "Streetcar Named Desire - Alex North (Highlights)"
Neslihan Pekgüleryüz THANK YOU!!
I LOVE the background song! 🔥🥵
omg... saw this movie last night... THIS was the scene that made me fall in love...
Brando is almost unbelievable that an actor can be that believable.
Not even an angel could be more beautiful
oh, his "meow" is fucking awesome !
The first time I saw this my jaw dropped because up to that point I had scene Brando in THe Godfather films after that. But I saw this and he took his shirt off I was thinking the same thing Vivien Leigh may have thought: "Cold shower now!"
why was Marlon Brando so excruciatingly beautiful? holy mother of GOD.
Mr. Brando is gone now and he would be old enough to be my great grandpa, but a young Brando good damn. Heavenly beautiful + wild = the 100% correct formula Stanley :)
Tennessee Williams is just a BREATH TAKING Dramatist ... What a Masterpiece !!!
that's Stanley 100 percent! tho Stanley to me will ALWAYS be young Marlon 🔥🥵🔥🥵
Glad you brought this up. After playing Stanley, Brando was hit on by lots of females who wanted 'some rough house' as Stanley would say. Sometimes out of frustration he oblidged. yes dear nothing is better than a natural man !!!!!
Marlon Brando, let me love you..
Holy Hell!!! Marlon Brando was beyond Stunningly handsome!!!
I love this!!
He's amazing!!
And she is so good too!
aah!
He's just beautiful!
A gorgeous man of intense sexual energy!
Yeah but, he's Marlon effing Brando. Just look at that face.
Great acting!
Brando is the best there ever was and is to be!
My fav. my inspiration and God!
BEST screen performance by a male and female is in this classic film!

He was so talented. No one could touch his acting.
