Yeah.....Flyers don't have much Center depth so trading Cates isn't going to happen, not in this trade. That's giving Farabee away. Krebs really? Why are Buffalo fans trying to oversell a 4th line player? He doesn't have the value people think.

I would think Mattias Samuelsson would be the player the Flyers would want as the centerpiece of the trade and has been mentioned by Flyers writers as a target for them. Top 6F for top 4D. Both the same age and current NHL players. His father Kjell even played for the Flyers for a long time.

Savoie was passed up by an 18 year old Zac Benson onto the Sabre roster. Rosein in Rochester also passed Savoie. Playing in the Western Hockey league against 17 and 18 year old is not impressive for someone about to be 21. Finally Savoie can’t stay healthy and scored only one point in the world juniors in four games. I would pump the brakes on who won this trade. McLeod did score 3 goals in the finals. Clutch genetics cannot be taught. Neither can size or elite speed.

Savoie was the prospect being shopped the most by the Sabres, but teams were more interested in a prospect like Wahlberg (23 2nd round pick)
@ABobeck94 idk what that has to do with what I said. There's a reason even Oilers haters are calling it a great trade for the Oilers. Maybe they shouldn't have been openly shopping him. That's exactly what the Oilers did with Hall and Eberle which essentially hurt their ability to bargain.
I disagree with your comment that there is an overall consensus regarding the Savoie trade. After the initial shock more and more sabres fans did their research on McLeod and saw that this was a really good trade.
I'm very happy with that trade. It's the Lindy influence starting to show.

You are going to love Mcleod. He was a fan favorite here in Edmonton. He wasn't getting enough ice time in Edmonton to really showcase his abilities. He's smooth as silk skater and very fast, he even beat McDavid in the speed contest this year. He's got great hands but with reduced ice time few were able to really see what he can do. Mcleod will be fantastic in Buffalo, the Sabres play his style of game.
mcleod in a vacuum is a fine addition.. my problem with that trade was that savoie's market value was not properly returned. if edmonton threw in a 2nd round or something, i would have less problem with it.
A lot of people are also over looking the fact that the Sabres next 4 or 5 forward prospects are the exact same player as savoie
At this point they should definitely go all-in and got a top 6 winger to help this team this year.
To get something, you have to give something. That would be a ridiculous deal for the Flyers. You may dream on your line-up but if you want Bee, expect to pay.
I make the mistake of watching these partisan idiots, and they always overrate the player(s) they are trading away. Farabee had 50 points and Krebs had 17, both over a full season. And Jokiharju had only 20 points. Cates, arguably, has more value than Krebs or Jokiharju because he is a really good defensive forward and had 18 points in only 59 games.
Flyers are not trading Farabee. Briere says almost everyday he won’t trade away our future, Beezer is one of our best young guys hes not going anywhere.

I wish. We never know though. Maybe one day sooner than later preferably, Coots gets traded. Ellis trade would be nice but still he can go on LTIR each year till end of contract
You have Lindy back, that's a big plus. The talent is there, the Sabres should be a playoff team.
Ill trade Krebs & R.Johnson for Joel. Sammy is a gamer when healthy. I believe getting Bo pushed R.Johnson down due to his size.

Maybe Krebs , Johnson , Byrson, and a draft pick. I'm not saying philly does it. But I would hate to part with Sammy. When healthy, he is a defensive defenseman.

This makes all the sense in the world and I've been on Twitter trying to get it to go viral for the last week. And you can see from Philly fans they like it too. Farabee is sell high right now since his production could dip if Torts plays him in the bottom 6 next year where as in Buffalo he could flourish and outplay his contract much like Tuch did when he was traded finally playing on a top line with an elite center. Hope Adams can get this deal done pronto!

I take the glass half full aproach with Flyers players and TBH they mainly need a goalie and a first line center. Yes theres probably only one bonafide star ( excluded Michkov since it will be his first season) in TK but they have a good bit of guys that have the potential to be stars. So I would be very hesitant if I was Danny on guys like Farabee.

So the Flyers are going to give up a player whose floor is 2nd line, with upside to 1st line winger (stretch in my opinion) for a 4C and 4-5D? Oh, and throw in a much better pick and 4C? What Flyers fans are clamoring for this trade. How about Benson for Farabee + Cates + 4th rounder? See how it works when fans propose ridiculously lopsided trades.
The fact is, our prospect pool is littered with 3rd/4th line forwards and 3rd pairing defenseman. We need prospects with high-end upside, not more glue guys. If Danny does this trade he should be canned. Then again, he got fleeced in the Gauthier-Drysdale swap so maybe you have a shot.

Fleeced, wouldn't go that far. That's a tough trade to make when the other team knows you have to get rid of him cause there's an issue. We got Barkey out of the pick and if Drysdale can stay healthy, I think it'll be just fine. Hopefully William plays like shix lol
That’s the problem - Drysdale seems to have the injury bug, and was a risky pick bc of it. Good point on Barkey tho. But I think Danny panicked. Gauthier was gonna clean up in the end of year award and playoff season. He would have had better offers this offseason. He should have gotten back a top 10, maybe top 5 pick this year.
@hsaiia they could only get back a decent return if no one knew he was refusing to play in Philly. The fact that it was kept a secret until after the deal was done is a testament to everyone involved. I'm sure it was a time sensitive matter and it is my belief they turned the lemons they were handed into lemonade. With any luck Karma will look after Gauthier and he ends up regretting his decision when the Flyers finally win the cup in 3-4 years.
Also the Flyers are likely way ahead by not having a guy like Cutter in the dressing room anyway. Hard to say Flyers got fleeced for a player that hasnt done a thing in the league yet. Hopefully he ends up being another Laine or Pierre Luc Dubois. Highly touted but not panning out. If that's the case then the Flyers will come out ahead.

As a flyers fan i would be ok with deal ..keep aquiring assets for the future ..farabee is good but dont think hes in our future plan ..same with frost
I'd do Krebs, Greenway, Rosen and a conditional 1st for Farabee and a conditional 4th. If the Sabres make the playoffs it's a unprotected 1st if we don't it's top 8 protected. Krebs and Greenway must play at least 85+ of the games for the 4th to go to a 3rd.
I feel like Vatrano is better, and by better I mean he would cost more, but he’s better. I agree though, let’s go get somebody. It’s easy to forget how banged up this team was last year. This team is one piece away from not only being able to easily make the playoffs but actually being able to do something when they get there. Still think we could make it as is

As a Sabres fan I like the idea of Farabee but to just "throw in" a d man from us, when we're already slim on d who are defensively responsible makes no sense. Addition by subtraction. Like there's no way this proposal would happen in my honest opinion. Someone said Krebs & Johnson id be more comfortable with than losing Sammy or to an extent Joki

The Sabres have 3 more like him but better defensively in Jiri Kulich, Noah Ostlund and now Konsta Helenius plus Anton Wahlberg our 2nd round center looked good in a small sample size when he got brought into the AHL last season. Someone had to go and obviously the Sabres shopped Savoie and the Oilers are the only team that wanted him. He's a great WHL player but not good enough to make the Sabres roster or team Canada. We'll see if he becomes anything in the NHL but I wish him the best plus he has a cool mustache!

There it is the dumbest trade scenario I've seen so far. Flyers would never trade Farabee let alone throw in Cates for a 4th line Center and 7th D. The flyers prospect pool is littered with 3/4 line centers and average d-men.
If you think Sammy is a 7th D, you clearly have no idea past your team. And Krebs could be a younger and better version of Cates btw, and will benefit from a change of scenery.

The way the Savoie deal is seen in Buffalo is that we have a ton of skilled prospects like Savoie in the system that are recent first rounders.. we can't play them all... short list: Helenius, Ostwald, Kulich, Benson (who did play with the Sabres last year), Rosen and that's just naming a few. There are 3 or 4 others too. At some point they have to be used either to fill in at the top or moved for players we need. We need the role players, the bangers.. McLeod fills that role.. Matt is a top 6 guy but not a banger. Yeah, I think we gave up a bunch of potential.. be we know what were getting.. Savoie is still a work in progress..and trying to trade Samualsson... Ummm NO... sorry.. HELL NO... he don't score.. but he's really good at stopping the other team of scoring.
As an Oilers fan that sounds like people saying Hall for Larsson was good because they didn't need Hall as much as they needed Larsson. Still doesn't mean it was fair value
McLeod is the exact opposite of a banger. He rarely hits, he's weak on the boards and won't drive the net. He doesn't generate any offense and will turn the puck over to avoid hits. Weak in the face-off circle as well.
He's fast and decent on the PK. That's about it for positive attributes.
Buffalo could've got him from the Oilers quite easily without the huge overpayment
@@johanstinson Not really.. he's a quality defender that the Oilers used heavily on the Penalty kill. he may not bang but he still keeps the puck out of his own net.
@johanstinson you're underselling him just like they're underselling Savoie. He's literally(advanced stats show) the fastest player in the NHL. He's a VERY good defense player and great on the transition. His only major flaw(and it's extremely major) is he's a perimeter player

Farabee would cost the Sabres a helluva lot more than Peyton Krebs ... and Farabee + Cates would be even quite a bit more.
This is why I think that trading Savoie was insanely dumb. Could have used him in the deal especially for a rebuilding team like Philly.
GMKA addressed our need for a 3C . Savoie was down in the depth charts for us.

@Dawg476 prob so in a different year. Drafting helenius this year @14. Push Savoie down the depth charts. That draft selection said and stated it all. Some pipeline prospects make it, and some are for trade value.
The trade was actually phenomenal if we don’t look at it one dimensionally. McLeod is a massive help to the Sabres immediately.

Did you watch the video? There are writers talking about this trade speculation involving the Flyers and Sabres. Many sources had them talking about a trade before the draft.
