Great video! One strategic Napoleonic game that I have enjoyed is Empires in Arms. The selection of operational chits in that game is always exciting.

Nice review about Napoleonic startegic games. Only to correct that Age of Napoleon IS a Card driven game (CDG). To make something you have to spend a Card (move armies, diplomacy, events).

Thanks for the video. I am waiting for a Napoleonic Wars reprint/update, too... I didn't know Worthington's War & Peace.

I am eagerly awaiting Alliance by Columbia Games. It has already been KickStarted, but is also available for Pre-Order on their website. Its a little behind schedule as Tom has been unwell and he is the guy who has been working on the fantastic map. Really looking forward to this one.

Great video thanks - confirmed for me that I want Napoleonic Wars but think I should await a reprint(?)

I still haven't found a strategic-level game that looks appealing to me. The old War and Peace is probably the closest to what I want, but I didn't KS the new version because I didn't like the map. Not a great reason, but there you go. I do wonder whether it's even possible to have a detailed strategic-level game for such a long stretch of history that had so many years of peace mixed into it. Maybe it would have to be like Imperium, where you have wars broken up by interludes of peace that are basically resets. Anyway, interesting video, thanks.

Yeah. I'm thinking a 2nd edition of AH War and Peace might be best for me.

Watching again. Looking for a decent two player game I can play solo.

Hi, that's a bunch of strategic games you have on the subject. I own Napokeon Against Europe (area-based CDG) and Nations in Arms (hex-based chit pull game), but both are too complex for casual play. I'm interested in the Age of Napoleon (for it's simplicity) and Sea of Glory (as I consume anything naval). Any specitic thoughts on Soldier Emperor? One of my friends tried it out and didn' like it

Thanks for watching and commenting. IMHO Age of Napoleon is best for causal play from the ones you/I listed. Sea of Glory is a good strategic naval treatment of the British blockade of France during the Napoleonic Wars (again, combine it with Fighting Sails at the tactical level and the two play similar to Rebel Raiders + Iron & Oak covering the American Civil war). As for Soldier Emperor (and the system) it is an acquired taste -- not as complex as Nations in Arms or even War and Peace (1980/2020); but still a bit fiddly in trying to sim the period (and still be a game). I like that it attempts to bring a mid-level strategic game to the genre.

Thanks, I'll have a look at all 3 then. A pity that there isn't much about Soldier Emperor / Seas of Glory on youtube. I would have gotten Seas of Glory a long time ago if it wasn't a poor solo game...

Looking for a war and peace but I can't find any ones for sale. How can I buy this?

I see them on eBay and even one for sale on Craigslist years ago. You might get lucky and find one in a thrift store. They made quite a few copies of the game that its not a "rare" game and shouldn't be too expensive.
