Concrete block retaining wall scan be used for standard retaining walls, riverbank protection, sea defence walls and material bay walls.
Block retaining walls are laid vertically use more blocks than inclined concrete blocks, as you can see.
The blocks come in 600mm and 800mm widths and heights. The standard length for a 600mm block is 1.8m and 1.6m for the 800mm blocks.
The standard finish for the blocks is smooth traditional concrete. The blocks can be textured and coloured for a more attractive finish.
    Block details
    600 mm blocks
600mm blocks: The block is 600mm wide x 600mm high x 1800mm, 1500mm, 1200mm, 900mm or 600mm long. The walls are built to a modular of 600mm. Each standard block builds 1.08m2 of the wall.
600mm blocks are used for wall heights 1.2m, 1.8m, and 3.0m as you can see in the table on the next page.
    8oo mm blocks
800mm blocks: The block is 800mm wide x 800mm high x 1600mm or 800mm long. Each standard block builds 1.28 m2 of the wall.
800mm blocks are used for wall heights 1.6m, 2.4m, 3.2m, and 4.0m as you can see in the table on the next page.
    Interlocking block retaining wall design
The design table was developed to allow us to build budget costs for various heights of walls. You can see how many blocks are required for the different heights. Please don’t use the guide for your project. Every project is different, with different soil and case load types.
We recommend a structural engineer designs your retaining wall. We can do this for you on request.
