I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I have been binge watching. I’m a 74 yr old gardener in Missouri and the heat has been extraordinary this year and drought. My tomatoes shut down despite a shade cloth. I can’t imagine how it would feel if it was a family’s livelihood. I’m sorry about your peppers. Your content is amazing.
its addictive, i was the same last year!!!
@@jacijoyce2685 it is addictive, I love the topic, and all these people are so entertaining. I think I’m hooked.😊
Been watching a few year. I never miss a video. Looking forward to seeing Cali grow up on the farm. ❤
Here's to 20 more years of gardening
@@WV_Raised1983 if that’s for me… 😊
Andrew so sorry about the disease affecting the peppers. I hope things improve. Beautiful harvest today!
Enjoy the heat while you have it. Frost isn't far away. The hard thing about farming is that what is good for one crop is bad for another. The rainy years bring thick hay, but it is hard to get it dry. The dry years bring thin hay, but no problem putting it up. The wet years bring good melons, but bad peppers. I guess it all evens out in the end. Huh, I had ham and beans and new potatoes tonight too! Good PA Dutch comfort food.
Thank you Andrew, I always look forward to your "veggie-edgies" (veggie educational sessions) ! They are great. You would be a wonderful middle school teacher!
I am so sorry about the disease affecting your pepper crop. The heat is harder on your dad! It amazes me what a large operation your family has. Your farm market is very pretty this early fall. Hope you all have a great week. Peace to you and your family!😊
Good morning Andrew how is very happy to see you hard at work today. Drink plenty of water.
I decided to grow tomatoes like you guys do and have had the best crop of tomatoes ever! Usually I plant them, tie them up, and cut the suckers off. I guess the best way is to let them grow naturally.
Suckers turn into new vines. Cutting them all off can seriously affect your yield of tomatoes. It is best to leave them and thin out the "sun leaves". By pruning sun leaves, allows light and moisture to circulate around the plants and helps prevent a disease hitting your tomatoes.
It helps to grow determinates like The Veggie Boys do.
Just make sure you mulch your determinate tomatoes very well or they will rot laying on top of the soil.
@@lynnschantz9185 I never mulch my tomato plants. Because tomatoes plants carry a lot of disease, I prefer to just get rid of them altogether. Not taking the chance of polluting my soil and taking years for the disease to die in the soil.
Not true
Please have Aunt Rhonda show and tell all of the plants out front. I get glimpses but would love to know more. They look stunning from here!
Bummer on the peppers 😔.
We are super stoked to get the opportunity to visit y'all in about 10-11 days, on our way across country. 😊
What an exciting vacation stop! I may be a little jealous. You'll get some great road snacks!!
yea, finally you ended your video with the dinner table at your parent's house!! ♥
I love watching your videos.... Your darling daughter is a wonderful beam of sunshine! The whole family is fantastic.... Thank you for doing all the hard work... Most people do not know how much work it is... We need to grow you to 1 Million subscribers! Hugs from Esquimalt
Keep up the great work. As a farmer, I really admire your effort.
❤
I love your family and your farm videos...ya'll work so well together🎉🎉🎉and you make ut seem effortless
Still loads of produce even with the grunge!!! The pumpkins are gorgeous! Don’t forget the corn husks! 🎃
Your Farm Market, so beautiful..tons to pick from..gotta be proud! Hard work definitely pays off! ☺
Callie is just so cute!!! Shes talking so good.
Ohh Andrew so terribly sorry about this disease affecting the crops, it's very unfortunate and I really hope the ground drys up so you can have a bountiful harvest 🙏🙏🙏we love you guys in Nairobi and send you loads of hugs ❤❤❤❤
Star ✨⭐ of the farm Callie 😘😘😘😘 🌹🌹💗❣️🧿🧿 nice to see you all ☺️👏🤠❣️🧿
I luv seeing the little guys…baby cows!!!
😂…my husband rolls his eyes… they’re NOT baby cows, they’re called calves….😮…😂😂😂
Y'all work so hard and have high standards for your veggies! I know the customers love the fresh veggies they get at the farm market.
My grandpa used to rotate his crops in the gardens and he would even change the direction of the rows by 90* each year. Maybe next year you can turn the crop direction so that the water runs downhill to the lowest point of the property. Just a thought. Love the videos. Keep 'em coming!
I think your idea could be very helpful if a person knew it was going to be a rainy year.
Otherwise it might be better to try and retain moisture if it's going to get dryer. Crapshoot . . isn't it
Interesting! I've heard of people referring to crop rotation, but never heard of someone literally doing it. Doing so would require some planning, as the sun / shade exposure would change.
Well Andrew... Peppers have been tough for the last 2 years. But, you guys bring me joy seeing your harvests. Oh, and thanks for the family..Buh-bye! 😆😆
It's hard to see all the mums and pumpkins and guards! It's just way to soon! Summer just flew by!
Sending support, love, and kindness from Lexington, Michigan, USA
Hello Lexington the sunrise side of the state, I'm in mid-michigan.
For those who are curious it’s called Phytophthora Blight.
Andrew, what varieties of bell pepper are you growing this year?
I wish I were closer! Veggies and Mums look great.
You guys do a remarkable job in farming. Thankyou. It's people like you that help to feed us with great veggies.
I’ve never heard about this pepper disease probably because it’s always so dry here and we have sandy soil. It’s been terrible weather for most. We on a small scale can fix or help to prevent damage from climate, but as we can see it’s not possible on a large scale.
Your harvest thus far has been a blessing despite this blip. We are in severe drought in WI and I’m amazed we had a harvest, but not without a lot of watering and so thankful for irrigation. The only measurable rain we had was August of 3-1/2”-that was all growing season😮
We know the heat you are/were experiencing as we had temps over 100*F before it drifted to you.
Keep 😎 Cool.
Have you consider getting a sub soiler. Running a sub soiler should improve drainage since it goes a lot deeper than disks or other regular tillage tools.
First time viewer, cute kid 👋 video was fun 👍 thanks
Ever think about tiling your fields? Especially in the low areas and aim toward your creek? I know it can be quite an expense, but your farm probably wouldn't need too much. Maybe a couple small runs.
Good day all.
Oh my gosh, love, love your videos. Just found out about you from a lady I follow on Flosstube. You guys are soo hard working folks. Thank you for doing it all! I'm binge watching your previous videos..wasn't sure how often you tape, but I'm there..soo fascinating to watch 😁
I understand his days are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
Prior to this video I was wondering how your veggies looked so perfect. The weather and pests are what I dislike about farming / gardening. I just would not make a good farmer because I cannot deal with the crop failures. Thank you all for doing what you do every day and every season.
Andrew it must be frustrating to have a disease in your crops. Hope it doesn't effect your crops on a ongoing basis. Always enjoy you doing Animal chores. Hope the rest of the growing season goes well. Take Care and Be safe on the farm. Out
Sounds like you need to teach Callie some new dances: more rain, less rain, more heat, and less heat. Is it realistic to add organic matter, sand, and/or rocks to correct the poor draining areas or are they too large?
Could you tile sections of fields that are especially prone to holding water, perhaps just one small manageable section each year? Could you rent a backhoe and do the surveying and trenching yourselves?
Oh my goodness gracious, did Callie just sign " girls "? WHAT??? That little rascal is so smart, way to go Lauren and Fam.... Love you all.

Hi Andrew,
Here's a recipe that grammy can try if she is adventurous! LOL
Sweet Mustard Pickles:
7-8 large cucumbers pared, seeded, and chopped
1/2 head cauliflower cut into small pieces
add 1/2 C of pickling salt . Let stand 2 hours.
Drain well and rinse in cold water.
Large cauldron:
5 large onions chopped,
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
3C vinegar (normal pickling vinegar)
Heat mixture til hot.
Add cukes and cauliflower.
Add the following to a bowl mix well and add to pickles:
3 C white sugar
1/2C flour
1/2 tsp tumeric
3 TBSP dry mustard.
Heat all until steaming and the vinegar mustard brine has thickened a bit. Bottle!
Hello from Newfoundland, Canada - love your channel.
Andrew, would hilling the peppers help?
If your camera overheats, get some activated cold packs and use elastics to hold them on the camera?
I grew up on an Iowa farm & that is why I have commented so much on your rocky fields. It is so different than what we have here. What about tiling? In Iowa, if we get a field with wet spots, we tile it until dry. I've seen areas with cat-tails dried out enough to farm with enough proper tiling. It tiling common in Pa? Do you ever give your chickens the bad tomatoes? Mom always tossed ours to the chickens.
I still think that bell pepper picking is good ASMR. Thank you
Those are beautiful mums and bell peppers.
They are beautiful and now I know who got all the rain we usually get, but haven't for 2 yrs now.
Beautiful Fall items at your farm market.
Andrew, I live up in Victor New York and we went through the same stretch of heat advisory as you have. Of course right now it’s 63° and raining. It’s never the same. Thanks for the videos! I look forward to them.
Good show
Sorry about the peppers. I hope your animals can still eat the peppers and not get sick! Thanks for the video.
Good afternoon Andrew n all the veggie boys n girls Ma.Callie is so cute n growing so fast enjoy your day the mums looks great
Bye bye Ms.Callie
We are getting thunder storms here in Kingsport,Tn tonite
Great video glad to see you all are together eating tonight. Sorry about the peppers. I wonder if the peppers had been picked earlier would they have had the damage they had today?
Maybe they wouldn't have been ready earlier
Does composting in place the diseased plants not recycle the disease and infect the soil further?
That explains what's happened to some of my pepper plants. I've never seen it before, but it's exactly like you described - some were going to mush, but some I just found out about by having a finger push through it.
The peppers sound so good and yummy.
Being a farmer isn't easy but it is satisfying. Heat dries up that water.
Wow it's hard to see all those peppers go to waste 😢 but there's always next year and those tomatoes look great. I don't know why someone would make fun of you having rocks in your soil, it's a natural thing
No waste here, I would just cut the bad off and slice them up for the freezer and for pickled peppers!
@@LadyEnyalus they said that would not have been a problem for them except they were rotting from the inside out , there's nothing to save.
Sorry about the trouble with peppers. They ones you pick are so beautiful!!! Farm market looks splendiferous!!!
ive been watching now for a month or so and im hooked... andrew (and family) your enthusiasm and energy is so great and and fun to watch. you have inspired me to add to my small garden at home. Thank you
The best time of year - harvest then pumpkins and gourds! Halloween can’t be far away😁👍
I now have an answer to what caused some of my peppers to rot. Thank you for the information. We have been less wet than you, but we had 3" the first week of August.
I’m in VT and we’ve had the wettest summer in decades with major flooding in July.
I had a terrible tomato and winter squash year with early blight and powdery mildew taking out my plants. I just went and ordered 80 lbs of plum canning tomatoes from a local farm. I figured I’d I can’t grow it, I’d rather get the best quality while support our local farmers.
Sorry to hear of all the disease on your peppers. Hopefully the season is long enough where you are that they’ll flush a new crop that are healthier.
That's a lot of picking! But it's worth it. 🤙🤙🤙
Hey ANDREW........No mater what you try to do, something is trying to undo it like that pepper disease.........Usually I have great luck with tomatoes and only losing a small amount to disease, etc........ This year it was RAIN, rain, rain.......Say hello for me to all the guys ( AND GIRLS too ) ......
All the videos you have made Andrew and this one is the only time I remember Granpa complaining.
Good work
You guys were like us, overly dry at first then too much rain.
It would be interesting to hear a report from you about the weather and how it has changed and is changing in Pennsylvania. I can tell you I’ve been growing for 10+ years in South Carolina. Man, it is hard to grow stuff here now. The temperature fluctuates so bad. The only thing I can say that would love the from 40 to 80 in the three day. Uptown uptown is strawberries! Things stop producing and bolt constantly. Well, the Lord has blessed us with a small piece of property in Florida to start farming on, and we are looking more acres down there. Because the temperature fluctuation is less.
MOM ON MOMS ...ALL MOMS OUT FROMT
My bell peppers never come out big, no matter what kind. Lol mine are usually 1/4-1/3 the size of those. I didn't get to have a garden this year due to me working, but I am planting a few things for fall/winter.
You hard working big guys need to go easy on those record breaking heat days
Peace love and positivity!
Enjoyed the video 👍👍
Down south we were glad when it cooled off to 95. No rain to speak of in central ms for over 30 days.
Question: will the spores from the fytaphra spread to the good peppers by leaving the bad peppers in the field?
So sad about the pepper issues. Do you gather up the bad peppers and remove them to eliminate those spores?
So sorry about your peppers. We’ve had the opposite here in SE MN we haven’t had rain. I remember my Dad always saying farming is such a gamble. You never know what might happen to crops.
WI we have entered severe drought level, just dust. Only main rain all season was August we had 3-1/2”.
@@dustyflats3832 we had 1/2 inch last night. We haven’t had a good amount of rain in early May but only 1/2 inch three times since. We are also considered severe drought here. I’m 75 and I don’t remember it ever being this dry.
you had me giggling……..”gross, gross, gross”. 😂
Oh my friend ❤❤
GRANDPAPPY NEEDS A HUGE HAT
We had ham and beans today also. Thank you for the video tour.
I know installing field tile is expensive! But thankfully, with drones and satellites, they can install new field tiles precisely where a field needs. Perhaps you could do this in the future?
I could make so much sauce!
Love those mums. Can’t find these in our area.
Where do you live? I didn’t know that was a thing. Of course I live in northeastern Ontario Canada. So fall mums are big here. It’s a shame that you can’t enjoy them too.
Thanks!❤
Nice video, Andrew. Thank you.
We had 45 days straight of temps over 110°. I would love to be there to help! Wish we had your water. Salutations from North Texas.
pick it or lose it.. suppose to be rainy this coming week.. hope you guys had a profitable summer
Great video as usual.
Beautiful produce.
Your side-by-side is certainly serving you well
Blessings to all!
ooooh I love that sound of the peppers
What a pretty view of the market. Keep up the wonderful work!
We're in Central Florida.. getting excited about our Fall garden. We love your show.
Veggie boys your cattle look amazing
I love your videos bro Nick from Trinidad 🇹🇹
I like it when you tell us how you price the items you sell. Please continue doing so. I feel bad for you about the peppers. I have been struggling with rabbits, slugs and I put the wrong fertilizer on the broccoli. Now they are flowering as soon as the heads form. But the rest of the garden is looking good. Already prepping for next year’s crop.
Hi Andrew, the genus name Phytophthora is fy-toff-thore-a.
I don’t farm for a living but with so much rain we received this summer I lost all but tomatoes and okra . Now we’re getting some more rain and a hurricane going up the state of Fl good luck with your new pepper plants
My pepper plants have had some slugs on them. Out of my 70 tomato plants so far 7 bushel. And my plants are loaded yet. As long as it doesn't freeze I will keep getting tomatoes. Making a batch of sauce now.
God had to send enough rain to wash away all of the smoke from the Canadian fires this year. Crazy weather all over!
Ive been away, so now I have to binge watch to catch up.
Lol
