They always tell not to put tooo much oil in the oil reservoir. This is because chainsaws leak a certain amount of oil all the time: they ARE messy. Unless oil is just pouring out, messy is normal. Thicker, better quality bar oil, slows things down a bit. I say this because I've been looking at a lot of reviews of entry level chainsaws and a lot of first time chainsaw owners do not seem to know this.
