The point of incest being problematic in this House is the Dance of Dragons is caused by misunderstandings among people in court who were too related, intertwined, and invested in their mutual and individual interests. That is actually what all of GOT is about and the Targaryens are the most reflective of it. So, yes, keeping it straight is impossible unless you have a maester or hand that can manage it and be trusted -- which never seems to work out.

Rhaenyra's sons, (Lucerys) and Jace (Jaceyrs) are both sons of Harwin Strong/"Breakbones". Oh yeah, also Joffrey.
She and Laenor never had children together.

The moment they chose to cut Meleys' head and parade it in the streets was a grave mistake. The dragons are the symbol of royal power, the things that made the closer to gods than men Not only the people took that as a bad omen, that certainly will make them slowly realize that both the dragons and the Targaryens are not as mighty and untouchable as they appeared.

If ever there's a threat to them, she's the first to jump in to try to protect them, but she's incapable of giving them affection or comfort. Laena would have been 23 when she married Daemon, and he was 34, She was 27 when she died.

I listen to Emergency Awesome to help me figure out a lot of the plot because I also didn't watch GOT. F.Y.I. u just saw Alyssa Targareon on this episode. She was Daemon's mom. Also, Allicent should have known she would be voted as King Regent because the whole HOTD series is about Rhaenyra trying to attain her given place as Queen.

For what it’s worth I don’t care if you guys need help keeping track. The names do sound alike.
There are two children between Daemon and Rhaenyra, one of which she gave birth to during the first season in her bedroom while Daemon ran the Black Council. She sent both children away with Rhaena to Essie with the Dragon Eggs. We may see something with that in the finale but I’m not clear how they’re going to handle it given the book is not a true telling but a collection of hearsay and conjecture

  • @Martinbumms

    Remembering names is very difficult.
In Game of Thrones it was a little easier since the names there were different enough but especially with the Targaryen it's just insane, 80% names are just different versions of Aegon's sister-wifes Visenya and Rhaenys, there's barely anything new and if in doubt someone will be called Aegon.
So confusing names is more than fine, as long as you guys mean the right person, mixing up people would be unfortunate. Having a family tree open to look at is smart and makes it easier.
I really like your reactions of season 2. I wasn't a big fan of your season 1 reactions because I didn't get the feeling that you took it seriously or had any fun with it, but that changend with season 2.

Most of the info I have picked up has been to research characters and lore on TH-cam to fill in the holes. Which is interesting. I am a history nerd so research for me is fun. I’m not so deep into this fantasy world as others but this is fun.

I love your analysis this time. Yes. It is f*cked up, and there is no aspirational example. It's ugly, it's magnified examination of dynasties and what they do to remain in power with dragons thrown in for the hell of it. There are characters deeply drawn that I enjoy not because they are endearing -- although some are more than others -- but because they are well written. Great reaction video, Guys.

Completely pulled up a Targaryen family tree when this series began to see how it was linked to the original series - it’s very easy to miss a few generations or mix up certain characters. Other family trees in the Game of Thrones universe are generally a bit easier to follow because their names are more diverse 😂

alicent in that scene cracked me up 🤣🤣 she really thought team 'we don't won't a woman on the throne' would make an exception for her. also, hot take, but rhaenyra has been on my nerves almost this whole season because she - like viserys - is so obsessed with maintaining peace that she's outright refused to deal with the war at her front door. i almost can't even blame her council for their behavior, even tho they're being mad sexist about it. hopefully this is the start of rhaenyra being useful again. and i don't mean repeating aegon's dumbass mistake of being the leader riding into battle on dragon. we see how that ended for him. or sending one op (the council dude) to link up with another op (daemon) so they can secretly conspire against her position as heir to the throne.

In fairness to Alicent, being a regent while someone is ill or injured isn’t the same thing as being the actual ruler. She wasn’t suggesting that she be named the sovereign. Plus, she was the regent before, for years, and the men around that table listened to her. So, her past experiences did give her some reason to think she would be able to do it again.

Man, really every reactor got spoiled on Aegon living... Hey book people, you aren't correcting anyone with this. If the show didn't tell us, that's just a spoiler.
Really doesn't matter if you don't know the names well. The issues most comments I saw had, who weren't being unreasonable, was the general attitude of seemingly not caring. Looking for things to dislike about the show at every corner, while talking over scenes a lot and immediately after complaining about not being given info. Which in parts reflected in not remembering the names. But even tho I watched S1 only half a year ago or so and tried to pay attention, I keep confusing them and keep googling. Tho I'm staying away from family trees, in case of spoilers. My go to is the cast list.

I've started reading the part of "Fire and Blood" that the show is based off of, and I watch other reactors too. That gives me a solid grasp of the characters, but I'd never complain about someone reading a family tree. I've done it. There's no easier way to fully understand it, and it's something that a fan would do. Sometimes, I watch the characters' interactions, and I try to analyze how they're actually related, and it's always funny to realize just how many uncle/step dads, and aunt/cousins there are. Thinking back on everyone's incestuous origins, I've realized that Rhaenyra's first three boys w/ Sir Harwin Strong, are actually less inbred, and therefore probably less likely to inherit some extreme Targaryen personality trait. The idea of illegitimate bastard children and heirs is ever present within the show. Jace and Luke were half Targaryen, and still became dragon riders. It makes sense that other distant or forgotten family members could do the same. The only thing they'd lack is the knowledge of the Valyrian language, in order to give the dragons specific commands, just like the ignorant Aegon II, in his fight vs. Rhaenys/Meleys.

I am starting to wonder if Mysaria is going to use Dyana (the waitress whom Aegon took advantage of) to cast doubt on the legitimacy of Jahaerys death? Otto's parading him through the streets really turned many of the smallfolk against Rhaenyra. They can either make it seem like Jahaerys was never killed and instead was sent away in hiding with Otto Hightower while they killed one of the many bastards Aegon sired to make the people think Rhaenyra murdered him. Or cast doubt about whether or not Jaeherys was legitimate by having Dyana claim to be his real mother. That Aegon never birthed a son with Helaena and that he was trying to pass off his bastard as his heir this whole time. It would really rile up the already tense smallfolk if they thought the crown was lying to them this whole time.

Ok about Alicent-she was like 14 or 15 when she had Aegon. She had a child when she was a child, when she was sexually assaulted and forced to have 4 children (yes, it was …..not very consensual). Yeah, her relationship with her children is VERY VERY complicated because she was a child and she grew up with her children. So yes she loves her children, BUT they’re also reminders of the fact that she was 14 and exploited by both her father and the king. She was NOT a scheming girl who was power hungry. Believe me when I say that the hatred for her is so misplaced when it’s THE MEN around her that failed her and exploited her.
