WeissSock Snow Socks

The MicksGarage.com Experts demonstrates This video is looking at the WeissSock snow sock, which is a set of snow socks for tyres, designed to get motorists out of difficult driving situations in snow. The WeissSock snow sock is manufactured by Weissenfels, an Italian specialist in the production of snow socks and snow chains for automobiles. They are legal on Irish roads and are TUV approved.
Snow socks are strong textile socks which slip over the driving wheels (front wheel drive or rear wheel drive) to provide the grip required on ice and snow. While snow chains aren't a practical solution for Irish roads, the snow sock is ideal for the sporadic lighter snow which we face in Ireland.
The WeissSock has been designed for situations where the duration of icy and snowy roads is normally short and does not justify winter tyres or snow chains. The WeissSock is reusable and takes up minimal storage space in the boot.
Fitting the Weiss Snow Sock is very easy:.
1) Stop the vehicle and apply the handbrake. Fit the socks to the driving wheels of the car, starting at the top of the tyre and working downwards.
2) Move the vehicle approximately 1 metre (move back if the surface prevents forward movement) in order to fit the remainder
3) Put the remainder of each 'Sock' into position.
4) The WeissSock will automatically self-centre when you start driving. There's only one possible way to fit the Snow Sock and no practice is required.

The WeissSock is extremely quick and simple to fit. There is nothing to chafe around the back of the tyre making them ideal for cars with limited clearances around the wheel. Fitting is also made easier since there is nothing to adjust and the socks automatically adjust themselves to the centre as you drive. Since there is no metal chain in contact with the road, the WeissSock is totally smooth running with absolutely no vibrations or noise being apparent.
Snow socks use friction to provide the grip. Dry snow and ice sticks to fabric and the Weiss Socks are made from a technical fabric which sticks to the snow. The specially developed textile also "wicks away" any water that's found between the ground and the tyre, (generated e.g. by the warmth of the sun, or wheel spin), thereby maximising the friction grip.

• a pair of elbow length gloves to protect your sleeves when fitting from wet & dirt
