As an Armenian and a huge fan of ATLA it was so amazing hearing my country's national instrument used in it, this score is absolutely amazing and beautiful
It's thanks to this show that I learned about the duduk when they said how they made the tsungi horn sound! Before this show I just called it "the cool flute they play when is hot in films" 🤣
That's the duduk for you. It's sounds produced always reminds the Armenians of the dark past they've had to go through and it simbolizes the deep periods of suffering we had. Kinda funny that this theme was used for Uncle Iroh which was against the darkness what the firenation became after the genocide of the air nomads, kind of corralating to how the armenians got slaughtered by the turks back then. In any way, I love the use of our instrument in this case and I hope all of us can appreciate this piece of music, used in one of my favourite shows.
@@henso19999 the war (slaughter) goes both ways and I think you are reading too much into it but nonetheless one of the best if not the best Instrument I have ever listened too
In the episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se" in Iroh's part where he sings it clearly says "In honor of Mako" which is Bryke showing their respect to the voice of Iroh ♥
Is there anyway you could do this with the final song of avatar when they are all together and iroh does that beautiful medley while socka is painting that awful picture
I know this is old but can you release the tabs or do a tutorial on how to do this I want to learn duduk and this as my first song pls if you're there help me out
That really means a lot to me, especially as someone not-so-great on the duduk yet, so thank you. :) I'm happy they used duduk in the soundtrack at all - would have liked to hear some more "tsungi horn", too, with or without the brass fusion!
Somehow more haunting, but less... less tense...? Like... it feels like looking at Zuko's journey in retrospect, rather than the original's looking at it in the moment.
Holy shit, very beautifully played!!! You are talented!!! I just rewatched season 1 of avatar, one of the best made cartoons! This music gives me peace and I can imagine Iroh talking to me with his wise words
I think you did a good job with this. Personally I think this is better than the original. There's something about the duduk by itself that gives the music a truly magical feel.
how did you make the recording of the duduk sound like an actual Tsungi Horn? I know how Jeremy Zuckerman did it (through convolution), & I'm trying to figure out how you would get that Tsungi horn sound out of a duduk through convolution, but I am SO lost! I have no idea how to use convolution reverbs for that purpose! Can anyone help me with this?
The Track Team created the instrument's unique sound by superimposing characteristics of the trombone to the duduk, that's what the wiki says :D.... ik I'm a bit late
Hi there - for the instrument body, all you need to do is occasionally oil the surface (I have walnut oil). The reeds will last you quite some time, so long as you break them in properly, keep them stored in a dry place, and keep the reed cap on. Double reeds can be finicky, but they're very rewarding. Have fun!
Congrats on the duduk!! It's such a great instrument. I can help you out once you get it... mostly it's just knowing your notes and fingerings. The piece itself is very free, and I think you'll get the feel for it once you're acquainted with the instrument. (I really should re-record this one too...!)
Hi - I'd say it depends on how much prior musical training you have. It's not as easy as picking up, say, a guitar from scratch, because of all the factors of a double reed that make the oboe family a bit more challenging/temperamental to play. However, if you pick a decent instrument and a good reedmaker/supplier, you should be good to go either way. I'm no duduk expert, just an oboe player... if you love the instrument, go for it!
You can actually get a really nice instrument (and reeds) from duduk . com ! To play this track specifically, you'd want the standard key in "A". It's a challenging, but gorgeous instrument.
Do you play sax often? Learning a double reed will mess a bit with your sax embouchure (and vice-versa), and there's more resistance/back pressure involved with this instrument. However, you also have an advantage in that you already know how much trouble reeds can be, which in my opinion will let you develop the 'feel' of the double reed more easily. Just my two cents though... I definitely encourage you to give it a try!
The piece is more of an improv for the duduk, and would be difficult for me to transcribe to sheet music because of its lack of rhythm (I play by ear in this case). Once you get the instrument, though, if you have any questions about the music feel free to ask me! It's in the key of F# minor, which fits perfectly on the standard A duduk.
Corbin Hall 5 months later... NOPE I've been looking for two days straight and can't find anything relating to translating this theme into sheet music. Even the order of notes, without being properly translated to music sheets would help, as from there you can figure out the rythm. I wish I was skilled enough in music to play by ear, but I'm practically tone deaf xD
Sorry about the trouble! The problem with transcribing this piece is its rhapsodic nature - I'm guessing that the original performer had sheet music, but it's played so freely that any sense of meter is lost. I could try, but who knows how close to accurate it would be. It's in the key of F# minor, if that helps any!
Hi, I would like to ask may I borrow your cover for a vid we're working on, we'll only use a very small sample, around 15 seconds we'll give proper credit to you. and we're not using it for any AI machine learning if that is a concern.
Hey really like the sound of it, I just bought a Duduk because I like the sound. Could you maybe send me the Notes to play it. I’m used to it, I play Sacophone since 10 Years. Would appreciate it. Thanks
Sounds great. I've got a handle on playing the duduk part, but may I ask where you got the backing track, or if you set it up yourself, what I should use to create something like it?
The "tsungi horn" is a made-up instrument - it does not actually exist. The Avatar creators designed it to look like something from the tuba family, but the actual sound you hear Iroh making is a musician playing the Armenian Duduk, which is what I used to record this track.
