Kate- branches that grow upward will only flower on the tip of the branch! Apple farmers pull the branches or bend them to the horizontal to force the development of SPURS. These will form all along the branch and will bloom the next season, rest for one season and bloom again the next season. You need to develop a strong platform of branches to hold 4o to 60 kilos of fruit without breaking or blowing over or dragging on the ground. It will take two or three years to develop and shape the the tree like this! You must spray the tree some way to get rid of the spider mites and fungi that show up to feed on the leaves of your trees. They need every leaf to make food for branches and roots. Brown leaves cannot make food for growth!! Good luck to you!

You are very very right our great ambassador. Immediately I removed the old leaves, my plant flowered immediately. Am from Ogun State in Nigeria. God bless you abundantly ❤❤❤. Please the flowers are aborting. Please what can I do? Thank you

Apply wood ash, it has alot of potassium which helps in prevention of flower abortion.
Or you can apply supplements of potassium, calcium

Thank you Cate this is something that has been disturbing very much , I bought 5 seedlings from you some times back two years ago down the line I was wondering what could have gone wrong . Over the weekend as I was checking on them I saw one tree has started flowering . Thank very much now I have learnt something new . I will try what you have taught us and see how things rolls up.

Well done Madam kate. I wish to testify that I tried this method immediately, and instead of flowers, all the developed & developing flower buds started bringing out new leaves. I think there's need for proper timing before going for this, depending on your climate/ location. Am still studying and researching on how to be truly successful in growing apples in my region- Eastern Nigeria. God bless you richly, my sister from another country.

Great,Actually the vegetative and fruiting processes are antogonistic thus discouraging one promotes the other.
