  • Athearn Genesis Dash 9 and factory fitted Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 DCC sound decoder. Had to show you how good this decoder is at slow speed. At speed step 1 out of 128 the loco crawls at around 0.3 scale miles per hour (or about 9 seconds between ties on Peco Code 75 track). Makes switching a breeze! The ever so slight jerkiness that is visible is NOT the loco but a visual artifact generated by my cheap camera phone - it can't fully cope with the super slow loco movement. In the flesh so to speak, the loco's movement is jerk free and hyper smooth. Credit to the superb Genesis driveline too. I fitted a Scale Sound Systems speaker to the loco. The stock twin sugar cube speaker is good but can’t match the low frequency response of the Scale Sound Systems speaker. No mods required to the loco to make the speaker fit.
Its performance like this which is making me move from ESU LOksound to Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders. For USA prototypes these decoders are the business. Usual disclaimer - I have no association whatsoever with Soundtraxx. It's just my honest opinion.
