- Welcome to Night Sketching!
Some nights, I struggle to drop off to sleep; and I know I'm not alone. At times like these when insomnia comes for me, I go to my art table, light a few nice candles, and do some sketching. Nothing fancy, difficult, or complex; just something to calm my mind, and pull myself out of the relentless loops which keep me awake into the small hours.
Tonight, I'm drawing a barn owl - as I'm becoming a bit of a night owl myself, it seems a logical choice. Besides, barn owls are one of my all-time favourite birds, so I don't really need an excuse to draw one I guess. This turned into Part One of this particular Night Sketching session: I will get Part Two ready to upload tomorrow. This is not a tutorial - if you're interested in those, my video demos are available to watching on my Patreon page, which I'll link here. / morgainerose_art
Thanks for watching this episode of Night Sketching. Enjoy!
This is beautiful, and very relaxing ❤😊 thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! 😊😊❤❤
That was lovely! Like you I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and I paint. It is a peaceful time and I can get straight into the zone. I haven’t tried candlelight though so I will set that up for the next time.
Thank you so much! It’s such a peaceful time isn’t it. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤😊
A "sleep pattern" is what I've lacked for some 12 years now. Ever since I got brain damage I can sleep for a full 24 hours or mare after just an hours sleep. And the other way round as well, where I couldn't sleep for 51 hours once. But that was in the extreme. All combinations of sleep and can't sleep have made me virtually unemployable as you never know if I'm going to drop off in the next 5minutes.
You know, many years ago (1992 to be exact) I tried my hand at painting for the 1st time. I used airfix paints, that's what I had lying around. I copied a picture of a green woodpecker from a book on birds, and to my total surprise, I was pretty good. Soon after that, I was working with the Surrey Wildlife trust, and several people without jobs joined up as the job centre made them do so. A young lady that was trying to impress one of the jobless lads heard the call of a green woodpecker, and promptly said loudly, "That the sound of the green woodpecker". The young man stopped dead on the trail with hands on hips and replied, "How the hell can you tell what colour it is by that noise". Those of us that knew rolled about laughing. But thinking about it, if you don't know, it's a perfectly valid question. Just thought I'd share that bit of a memory.
Thank you for sharing, Graham! Glad you’re keeping well! ❤😊
Now I'm going to watch your mum's video.
