Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Thank you for watching!!!
I still remember the times when having different keys for doors and ignition was normal for cars...
Yes that way if you wanted to lock it up and leave it running no big deal you still had a door key
Howdy trippy
👍👍👍
Trippy, another good vid. I think you really like running the sprayer. Keep it between the rows 🚜🌽🌽🌽
I have grown to enjoy it. More spraying to come all summer!
If the poles are in a straight line line your gps so the break backs just tap the pole and then you don’t have to drive around in a circle, it will give a lot better application. We have a fair few poles to deal with in the uk that’s how I do it anyways. 👍
I may try that one of these days. The poles are straight, but they run at a slight diagonal across the field.
Hopefully the service call does the trick for the Hagie. Always a learning opportunity on the farm. Stay healthy. Best
Our deer sprayers are in the .15 to .18 to the acer range. Deere engines like diesel. We upgraded to the 612R with 120ft carbon fiber booms. They both have exactapply and boom track. Makes a world of difference.
I'd love exactapply, just not sure if it really pencils that great. I'd spend that money to have a bigger solution tank if my budget was tight and I was upgrading!
As a former field mechanic, things working while I was there and not right after I leave, was a normal part of the equation.
That is the worst!!!
Dude you should really look into coffee as your morning beverage. 👌
I cannot stand the taste of coffee for some reason. I must not be normal!!!
@@aTrippyFarmer I understand but have you ever had real fresh roasted coffee beans that you grind at home just before you brew? It’s the best thing since auto steer. 😉
New hat time. Haha. Great video 👍 👍
Wait is that a Hagie I see coming at me on 1000 N between Mattoon and Charleston. I wonder could it be Trippy Farmer. Couldn't really see in the dirty windows as he passed me but there was an American flag on the back of it. Not sure if that was you Andy. Don't remember a flag on your Hagie. Just excited to see a hard working young farmer in the wild. Lol
I don't have an American flag! There are a few farmers in that area that it could be. I don't travel too much on 1000 North, especially between Mattoon and Charleston!
Andy, I hope you put that boom through it's paces. It's been a fun journey aside from the folding issue. Can you use the fence row nozzle to help around poles in the field? Hope you're getting some R&R!
its remarkable how calm you manage to stay in such frustrating times . well done . the ag1 supplement is a big plus for you .
There are certainly days when too many things go wrong in a row, but my reactions to those occurrences usually aren't age-appropriate for a youtube audience!!!
@@aTrippyFarmer i can appreciate the nicities of a supr-modern machine but when things go wrong inappropriate phrases seem appropriate . thanks for taking time out of your day to answer my comment . take care andy.
Love the video's
In my 19sts 16 I run I always cut rate .5-.3 10ths of a gallon depending on how many corners and curves there is to reduce over applying and always come out just perfect.
I didn't learn that lesson until after I talked to the custom operators at the retailer. I assumed it was just like running a planter, which was not the case. They basically said the same thing that you did... the amount that you cut it depends on the field and the product being applied.
Awesomd video😊
Andy... Does the Haigy sprayer have the ability to auto-pilot like the John Deere tractors and combines do using GPS? I think it may be time to take the sprayer back to the dealer and demand they either get the boom situation corrected or for them to give you a working loaner until they can get it fixed. I know you know time is money and I'm sure you know for every minute you are having to waste tinkering with the thing to function properly is costing you money.
Although it was frustrating, the boom issue was minor. It just needed fixed by a professional. That was more of my fault than the dealerships in terms of getting it fixed sooner. To answer your first question, yes. That John Deere 4640 display that is in the upper right corner of my cab is running my guidance and my rate controller for the sprayer.
Should have purchased a real sprayer! CaseIH!!
Would you want to be able to get into the engine compartment if the main breaker was tripped or if the main wiring was compromised?!
Need to clean them windows
How do you like the front mount booms ? I have only run rear mount sprayer booms
I don't have enough experience to compare it to a rear mount. It seems pretty straightforward. I have a great view of the entire boom without having to break my neck. I can't really see the middle section nozzles, but you'd have a hard time seeing those on a rear-mount as well.
Maybe this is a silly question, but here goes: Is it really critical that every foot of ground get sprayed? I guess what I'm getting at is why can't you just run parallel along the power lines, leaving a foot on each side of the poles unsprayed?
It isn't critical to cover every square inch with a pre-emergence residual-only herbicide. However, you will definitely notice where the product was not applied. In theory, our field cultivator should clear the entire field of weeds, but the residual product is to help reduce the emergence of weeds for the next 4-6 weeks until our post-application on soybeans. Some areas would grow so many weeds, especially grass, without a residual down that the soybeans could actually get choked out and die, or at least lose yield.
How can I get one of the hats you wear ?
Did I witness a non red wearing Marty?
Should have gotten a John Deere Sprayer instead you wouldn't have had that folding problem with the booms lol
Your videos are ancient history. They need to be current.
Literally impossible. Sorry!
I hope you don't have a sprung boom causing your folding issues. I mentioned Cole in my last comment because he showed briefly changing the Hagie tires from floaters to row-crop and they had what looked like a special jack (Imaging a bottle jack with a 4 foot long pedistal base to jack up the Hagie) I've always looked for different ways to do my tasks by watching others, ya never know when or what you'll learn :) Thanks for another great video :)
