I have no real interest in trains or model trains, however this was a very interesting watch for me. Its like watching a genius with a hella tight budget somehow fight tooth and nail within their boundaries to create a work of art and it is beautiful. Very impressive how you were able to keep costs at a minimum, without sacrificing quality or material by using everything at your disposal to its absolute limit.

Hi, I discovered your channel a couple months ago when this video had just recently come out, and I very quickly went through your backlog of videos. I've watched this one a couple times, and am delighted by the joy and passion you have for scale models and trains. I also adore the stop motion animations you did for all of your reviews, and all the knowledge you shared about the accurate scaling of the figures in question had me enthralled. Perhaps a little too enthralled. I've gone down a rabbithole now and made a copy of the spreadsheet on your website, trimming it and organizing it for my personal use, and noticed that your spreadsheet only had measurements for the real world vehicles. I want to take a look at the figures available from the WFC trilogy onward and compare, mathematically, how in scale the majority are with one another, so I wanted to ask, do you have a record of the toy measurements used in the scale calculations on your website that I could reference? I don't have a very extensive collection to gather measurements from myself right now, so it'd be a major help. If not, I understand and can probably find the information elsewhere online or do gradual research some other way. If you do have that information and are willing to share, I can send you an email at the address on your site so we can discuss it there; in fact I was unsure whether this should be a comment or an email so... yeah. Many thanks, Kan, your new admiring fan
This unlocked a memory I'd totally forgotten about. Before my family moved, we had a shelf near the roof like this one which had train tracks running along it. One of the trains actually made steam, which was the coolest thing to me as a kid. At some point the train was removed I think, and my parents put other stuff up there like cars with opening doors and stuff (which, again, amazed me). We have a bin full of old model trains and tracks that I've never seen in operation. I remember my papa (grandfather) taking me to one of his friend's to buy a bunch of them. It was fun to relive these memories a little thanks to this video.
My family have a huge train board for Lionel O gauge, Bachmann HO gauge, and LEGO trains. I also have a smaller layout that is HO narrow gauge aka Scarloey. Both layouts are used for the Christmas season. And they use foam.
1:28 - I KNEW it! 😄 A big set-up like this was never a DREAM, per se, but I'd love to one day do an elevated track like this for the Christmas season. Those festive olde tyme steam engines are cool, but around the Christmas tree is just too inconvenient. Great job, man!
Hahahah absolutely incredible. This is a secret love of mine. Display space is also an issue. I have a bunch of cars and track I purchased at K B toys back in the 90's. I think I may revisit this old hobby. Thank you.
Watching this makes me want to work more on my layout. If only finds weren't so limited each pay check. I love seeing the progress you post with your trains. I should try my hand at making my own Astrotrain because that would be cool.
Damn, guess it’s time to go back thru the Bachman model rabbithole Banger stuff man, I’m surprised at how well managed this project was, hell yeah! It feels manageable, and worth a shot in the near future :)
I have the files to scratch print a proper Thomas body, and given how abysmal James' tractive power is, I might want to give that a go just to design something with a bit more weight to it But, I wouldn't mind also just buying the chassis parts for the other figures and just going for it model wise for all of them
This is so awesome! I wanna do something like this in my own room, either as an HO scale shortline/tourist line or an N scale version of where I Railfan (For those who don’t know, that’s what the hobby of watching and photographing/videoing trains is called) just owned by the original line that owned it, the Illinois Central. I’ll probably go the HO scale route though making a small loop line,
@0:34 I never knew the Stunticons as a traffic law-abiding group by stopping and let the train pass first. If those were real, they would've blasted their way.

it's happened once so far, but only because I wasn't using some sort of stool and I was trying to place a new locomotive on the track. otherwise, the trackage has been stable, and careful car placement has mitigated clothes-lining
Good thing you used nickel silver track, that steel rubbish rusts something fierce... Also, if I was you, I would have taken the panels off to lay your track and electrically isolated them once you finished your measurements. Not just to make laying/wiring it easier, considering your "work space", but also so you can pop and swap them in sections easier in future.
Yeah that's sorta why I was dead set on using NS. I have Steel and having to clean it every time I set it up was super annoying And that might not have been a bad idea. Idk I'm new at this haha
