@@thegreatvasundhara2937 make sure to stitch both sides of the mekhela and make it an cylindrical skirt/sarong, that's how Assamese womens wear it. And also make sure to pleat the mekhela opposite to saree pleating, saree pleating are on left while mekhela pleating are on right and the pleating of mekhela are usually 1-3 (maximum 3, minimum 1).

Lungi is what bengali males wear (especially miya community). Non bengali males don't wear lungi let alone females, the sarongs of indigenous peoples of NE that are wore by indigenous women are not called lungi but have their own unique names and designs that vary from one indigenous community to the another. Calling it a lungi is very disrespectful to the indigenous peoples of the seven sisters. Because we associated lungi with miya. Even if sarongs are called lungi by Nepalis, don't forget that the sarong you're wearing is not from your culture but from someone else's culture.
