Sew both the ends of the lungi to make a tube like cloth and ot will be much better to handle.... Assamese people were like that which is called as mekhela and your piece of lungi looks exactly like traditional assamese mekhela
Don't use the word lungi to someone's traditional attire.. Before uploading plz do a research about the proper word for that garment.. If not use the term mekhela which sounds more authentic

This we Called mekhla chador Assamese traditional dress,lungi is called mekhla and ordni or dupatta is called chador,
Its not called lungi dear..it has the tradition of our northeast culture imprinted on that gale which if you sew the end of the cloth then it becomes mekhela of assamese people...and lungi word is used for male gender who use as bottom garment.lungi word doesnt get along with female clothings..so just try to gather lil bit of information before giving it the name of lungi. Call it as a wrapper if you are unknown to the notheast culture and traditions.
Yes dear, I know it is called Mekhela in Assam. But we call it Lungi in Nepal that's why I called it Lungi.

@@mayabeautyvlogs878 Miss, first of all look at the bottom design of that sarong, I can say without a doubt that it's 100% Assamese design. In one of your comment you said it's Sikkimese lungi but Sikkimese design is not like that, that's 100% not sikkimese lungi but Assamese mekhela. In another one of your comments you said you got it from Shillong but even design of Khasi, Garo or Jaintai people (indigenous communities of meghalaya) are not like that. That type of design is only of Assamese/okomiya, I'm khati okomiya so I can tell just by glancing at it that it's mekhela. Yes lungi, Assamese mekhela, Manipuri phanek, southeast Asian dress etc are all sarongs but they're not the same thing because they have culture associated with them. Mekhela sador is our traditional attire, it is an integral part of our culture, we have emotions attached to it, it's our culture not your culture so call it by it's cultural name. If you're wearing someone else's culture, call it by it's real name. Don't call mekhela as lungi because we associated lungi especially blue lungi with miya community, we don't have positive views of that community that's why we find it to be very disrespectful.

@@mayabeautyvlogs878 it's not lungi but mekhela, the design itself say it all. And no where in the 7 sisters, you will get lungi for female. Lungi is what bengali males wear (especially miya community). Non bengali males don't wear lungi let alone females, the sarongs of indigenous peoples of NE that are wore by indigenous women are not called lungi but have their own unique names and designs that vary from one indigenous community to the another. Calling it a lungi is very disrespectful to the indigenous peoples of the seven sisters. Because we associated lungi with miya. Even if sarongs are called lungi by Nepalis, don't forget that the sarong you're wearing is not from your culture but from someone else's culture.

@@thegreatvasundhara2937 make sure to stitch both sides of the mekhela and make it an cylindrical skirt/sarong, that's how Assamese womens wear it. And also make sure to pleat the mekhela opposite to saree pleating, saree pleating are on left while mekhela pleating are on right and the pleating of mekhela are usually 1-3 (maximum 3, minimum 1).

In some of her replies, she said this type of dress are called lungi in her culture but mekhela is not from her culture, it's our culture. If she is wearing someone else culture, she should respect it, wear it the correct way and should call it with the correct name. Calling it by any name other than the actual name is straight up disrespect to our culture.
