    Hi,
    Thank You for the informative vid. There's one problem w/a tip of yours, though. Placing the seatbelt behind your appendix holster. Seatbelts are meant to be tightened as low as possible, across the pelvic arches. In the event of an accident, this protects your intestines from being ruptured by the belt's force. If worn too high, the seatbelt will crush/rupture your large or small intestines. That's a really bad day, including the need for a colostomy. It's an injury we see in ERs, fairly often. Thanks, again.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Hey Ken, thanks for the tip! Yeah I've heard that you want the belt to be basically down/on your hip bones, is that the case?

    • @Ken-fh8iv
      @Ken-fh8iv 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You want the belt to be as low as possible. What I do is lay it right across the junction where my hip joints & pelvis meet (lowest point), & pull the belt tight. In a frontal crash, the forces will be transferred to the pelvic arches, minimizing injury.

    I always carried 4-5 o'clock and finally decided to try appendix and i'll never go back. Love it. One thing that helped me with reholstering at first was to place my off hand thumb behind my holster and push the top outward. It made finding the top of the holster easier.

      +Ryan's Range Report Yeah, I still don't understand how most people carry there, especially with longer guns - it's uncomfortable enough for me with a stubby G26, much less a 19... I feel like I wear my pants at a normal height, the only way I could ever wear my gun over at 1 or 2 would be if I hiked my pants up to my belly button!

    One option if you don't mind the DA/SA system is if you have one with the exposed hammer is to block the hammer with your thumb so if anything does end up trying to put pressure on the trigger your thumbs blocking it from moving and slapping the firing pin. That's one way to go about it anyway. Stay safe and carry in.

    A good ol' hammer fire pistol will give you the added reassurance against a NG when carrying AIWB as well. Having a visual on the hammer and using your thumb on top of it to prevent it from being cocked is a big plus!

    the REMORA holsters work well for me. It allows me to tuck my shirt in when necessary, which is normally in the summer with a Polo shirt. Winter time I wear the same holster with a sweater almost every day.Non-tuck is much easier. I also wear the skinny type jeans,which is most difficult to get used to, however it provides a tight grip to the holster. I have not had any difficulty with the holster staying in place with a Remora with a Glock 26 or the XDs. Its nice because there are no clips,and it goes on in 2 seconds.. I don't work for the company,but am impressed with their products. I carry every day,all day. The time you don't have your weapon will be the time you need it. Enjoy CCW!

    I was dead set on appendix carry when I first started CCW but then I realized I have a small gut and a harry stomach so when I went to draw i'd pull hairs out and that shit hurts lol make a video for conceal carry for chubby dudes.

    • @ataz0th218
      @ataz0th218 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a small gut and appendix carry is doable but not as easy as a skinny guy can. I wear undershirts so my hair isn't an issue, but if I do carry appendix I keep it towards my right hip more so the muzzle sits between my crotch and right thigh when I sit/bend over. Otherwise I carry IWB at the 4:30 position.

      +G “Krillin92” St no offense here but try and work on the belly thing bud, there is no way to carry Appendix when we have extra in places where the pistol sits. Also, pay attention to guys that make these videos; most of them will have on "tactical" pants where there is no buckle in the front and the belt clips are in the "off" position since the Mfg knows the weapon will be placed in areas where the belt loop normally sits. Cheers

      I used to be "pleasingly plump" but now I'm old & fat.I find appendix carry very comfortable. My gun just disappears in the spare tire compartment.
      I don't worry about accidentally discharging while reholstering. I just set the safety until the gun is safely holstered. Then I click the safety to the fire position.

    I agree with most of your thoughts. I carry a M&P 9c appendix slightly left of center because I hide the gun butt better. I use an INCOG holster from G-code and a Wee Celtic holster. I tend to prefer the Celtic Kydex and leather holster in the warmer weather. The kydex makes me sweat more than a leather backed holster here in Texas.

    I would dispute, respectfully, that bbl length affects comfort. Without a purpose build holster, that has a feature that tucks in the grip along the body line short bbl pistols are ideal. However, with a good purpose built holster such as a 5 Shot SME, JM Custom Kydex, Custom Carry Concepts or a Keepers Concealment holster a full size duty pistol (such as a P30 which I carry every day ) are not that much of an issue. And, it's not like I'm a mountain of a man at 5'8" and 170...
    But, all in all good video production and nice to see some people trying it out.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was more referring to if all things were equal (ride height), then a shorter barrel/slide makes for a more comfortable carry. I could carry a gun with a 20" barrel, technically, if I didn't mind the grip of the gun being up at my nipple. ;)
      But yeah, people carry G17s all the time without much of an issue - but if you ask those same people if a G26 would be more comfortable, they would say yes.

    Good overview of a wide range of options. I liked this video. In my opinion, if I may, I am willing to sacrifice ease of re-holstering for more conceal-ability. I prefer a Gunclip (slide clip) and a MIC holster. This config. is pure minimalist, but allows safe carry, rapid deployment, and concealment in light clothing. The MIC holster also has a few other applications as well.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Derek Clark Yup, there are hundreds of different types of holsters out there for everyone's specific needs. I prefer having an easily reholsterable holster, because I believe practicing with your carry holster is important and should be done more than anything else. Practicing drawing and reholstering with live ammo and chambered rounds means that the safety in being able to efficiently reholster is high up there on the priority list of me specifically.

    • @derekc4919

    Hey, I think you did just fine even though this was some time ago. You covered a lot of the pro and cons of appendix carry. I think the only thing I did not pick-up on is how to deal with your abdominal girth when you have a lot of it. Such as larger waist band, looser larger hanging shirts, and weight reduction. Seen some pretty disgusting belly fat and don't know how they could even find their weapon.

  • @Prepare2Survive

    Have you seen the new AIWB holster from us grunt gear that has a wing that angles the gun grip back towards your belly so it conceals better? Maybe your mag carrier could be angled going the other way to do the same thing.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Prepare2Survive Having the mag carrier angled in, to follow the curve of the body, helps tuck the grip of the gun back into the body. I hate wings, they add a lot of discomfort for not much gain in concealment - for me anyway.

    In my experience, comfort corresponds to carry-ability. So, unless it's your job, a more comfortable gun will guarantee that you'll carry more. For me that's why single stack is better than double-->more likely to actually have the gun!

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      RabidMortal1 Definitely, the best gun is the one you have on you. If a gun is too big for you to carry comfortably and that causes you to not carry it, I'd recommend trying a smaller gun.

    I remember watching this video before getting my ccw and researching carry options.
    7 months later, I'm pretty competent being comfortable carrying and drawing my g19 in a trex sidecar.
    Only issue is that my sights tore little holes into a couple of my shirts so, get tougher tshirts if you're doing this lol.

    Nice video man, very thorough. I also carry an XDs appendix and use the grip safety as a guarantee that the pistol will not go off when holstering. I've also been avoiding paying the high price for an Incog holster but they seem like they are well worth the money, so I will probably invest in one soon.

    • @LastLineOfDefense

      That holster is an INCOG - high quality holster, but I think the design leaves some to be desired. Belt is probably an SOE

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had any experience with that holster you linked, but it looks like a design that I'd choose over the INCOG. I do make and sell holsters as well, though they are certainly on the high end of most people's budgets. You can shoot me an email at mike@llod.us if you'd like more info on them.

    What about your belt? If the clip of your holster is coming down at 12 o'clock, that would be blocked by your belt buckle. I noticed at 6:05 you showed your midsection and it looks like your belt clasps off to the side. What kind of belts do you recommend?

    great suggestions thanks..I'm New to Iwb..Got the same incog with the mag caddy and found it very difficult to drive...maybe my Sphinx spd is to big. I'm able to use the sticky holster in pocket or iwb combined with the snag mag...

    I agree the XDS tip is smart. I carry a XDM 3.8 inch barrel, not having an active safety freaked me out, but it isn't nearly as accurate as my ruger LC 9.
    I do need a new holster option though. My Uncle Mikes soft holster really doesn't do a great job staying clipped on my belt.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, just be extra careful using leather holsters that can collapse on themselves, especially when reholstering. I'll probably start selling holsters to the public in the next few weeks if you're interested in trying out a kydex option.

    Even though carrying a IWB at the 5:00 position is much more comfortable, I can draw my firearm much more quickly in a appendix carry. After a week or two I no longer fear carrying this way. I carry a Glock 42 in a N8/2 holster and my 2nd magazine goes in that little pocket above my right pocket, ya know the one that no one knows what its purpose is. I have future plans to replace it with a larger caliber firearm and will have to reevaluate if this is still a good option.

    I just ordered mine (BladeTech Ambi Klipt) and look forward to using, for my G26. I run into the issue of not being able to put on my carry gear after work (federal employee), so I figured a good appendix style holster, that is easy on and easy off would work for me after work. Normally I run Mitch Rosen, SOS, ARG or UL (upper limit) on the weekend, these are great for days I have time to get ready before I leave the house and I am not going to work. I hope this works out for me as quick holster for after work carry.?
