  • See beginning to end construction of a permaculture pond in a natural gully with earthworks gurus Zach Weiss and Megan Neary of Elemental Ecosystems. Watch the landscape come alive through the seasons as the pond becomes established during its first year. This video demonstrates what it takes to make a viable pond in an arid climate with sandy soil.

    great video! really enjoyed seeing all the different rock and sand/dirt layers. so many "pond" people feel the necessity to put down a rubber or plastic barrier to prevent the water from being absorbed into the earth. I would love to know which materials you use, in what order, are keeping the water in this pond above ground. I would love to do a smaller version of this - a much smaller - in my own back yard in central texas. thanks! BTW adorable pup!

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video Susie! The pond layering was really very simple: We packed in a ton of bentonite clay, covered it with rocks, and added water. :) Here is a follow-up video that includes coverage of the pond: th-cam.com/video/eFPgaLMqtm4/w-d-xo.html

    Nice pond! does this pond have core clay trench?

  • @buckaroobonzai2909
    @buckaroobonzai2909 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wonder if drilling a hole straight down the center of the pond would help it have a place for sediment to deposit or if it would just end up being a drain and drying it out.

    • @thomasjelpel
      @thomasjelpel  ปีที่แล้ว

      The soil is very sandy here, so it would probably slowly drain the pond! Here is a tour of my house you might enjoy: th-cam.com/video/QWKPisywxvY/w-d-xo.html

      Matt, I'm glad you are inspired by the video! Ponds are expensive. This was a small one, but cost $10K.

      I got a price on a built in swimming pool. The lady told me after all said and done I’m gonna be looking at $40,000. Needless to say I didn’t get it so 10,000 for a pond that you could use all yea is a real bargain
