Watched this video for instructions on how to take it apart, and told me what was wrong with mine, the nylon drive gear was intact toast. Amazon supplied part and food safe gear grease ordered and installed.
Thanks. Works as advertised once again.
If the machine smoked, usually it had a short like this one. If the motor suddenly stops working, without any smoke, usually the brushes need to be replaced (make sure angled side of brush lines up with machines internal notch). If the machine pulses sometimes or runs at slow speed for short period and shuts off, usually it's the phase control board. Make sure small contacts (little rivets) on the speed control plate are in tact. They can pop out over time. If there's a problem with speed control, could be speed control plate or speed control lever. If motors runs but padle doesn't turn, the nylon worm gear needs to be changed. Hope this helps someone.
My motor runs but paddle doesn't turn. Where does one purchase the nylon worm gear?
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!!!
Hi mine doesn’t work anymore. I took out the bushes and when I take out the one same side as the release mechanism and put it back on, it pulses for about a second and stops again and won’t come back on. Any advice please
@Puffers98 I would change the phase control board. While you're in there you should probably change the speed control plate. I'm suspicious that the plate had something to do with my board going out. I also suggest buying genuine KitchenAid parts. Around 30 bucks shipped is what I paid for both. The speed control will have to be adjusted but nothing super complicated. There are good videos for this.
Hola amigo, una pregunta mi batidora se pone lenta con la mezcla de pan, en cambio en vacío funciona perfectamente, es como si perdiera fuerza, tienes idea a que se puede deber.
Good info for disassembly. My wife’s would not stay in the off position on first try. I found the screw for the on/off speed lever was slightly loose. To tighten, you have to completely disassemble like in this video. I removed the lever screw and added a drop of loktite. All good now.
I was hoping to find out how to get the top piece off so I could find out why the on/off switch wouldn't work anymore. I used a mallet to get it to on but now have to plug and unplug it for start/stop. I see you have to take the entire machine apart to get to the on/off lever. I could probably get it apart but I doubt very much that I could reassemble it properly. Bought a new Kitchen Aid Mixer. Problem solved. The original was at least 50 years old so I figured I deserve a new one. Thanks for the video. Convinced me to buy a new one.
The best way to not scratch your trim ring (1:00) is to use something made of plastic to tap it off. I personally used a plastic tool made to remove trim panels on the inside of a car. You're almost guaranteed to scratch the trim ring when using a screwdriver.
had a "smoker" that i gave away. wish i had it back now, good catch!!!
My KitchenAid mixer seems to bog down under a heavy load like when making dough any thoughts on this. It didn't do this before I had to replace the plastic worm gear on the inside appears I put it on correct.
Great job on the video. 🎉
Do you know how to replace the spring inside the mixer? If so, will you make an instructional video please and thank you.
I just opened one but, just the rear part. The problem with mine is that the speed knob does not stay on off, it moves to Stir o speed 2...do I have to open it like you did?
How do you punch out the pin?😅 trying to investigate but get stuck at step one...
help
@@m4tthi3u did you try to do it from both sides?
Do you think the plastic gear at the front could be used to replace the one that runs the main mixer, since I do not use any other attachments.
Needed this, Thanks!
So I had one that smoked but would still work. I took it apart and all gears looked good, motor looked good. I cleaned out some of the grease as it seemed to coagulate due to not being used for a few years (it was a gift). I put everything back together and now it won’t even turn on. Any idea what I could have done??
Did you remove the two plastic screws on each side of the dome?
Probablemente sean los carbones si los llegaste a sacar, ellos tienen una forma particular de colocar.
Good job Bro.👍👍😱
I have taken off all of the necessary screws and for the life of me I can’t get the top housing off. I had grease leaking out the back for a while and I’m wondering if that’s why it’s so stuck. Any advice on how to get it off or is it just a muscle it kind of thing? I tried prying it up as well and it moves some but goes right back down.
You punched out the pin that holds the planetary on? The top can't come off without removing that pin. He shows how to do it at 1:32 of the video.
Also, the end cover has to be removed because the wire strain relief has to be removed to allow the top to be separated from the bottom.
Do you buy vintage kitchen aid stand mixers for parts or to repair & resell?
I don't fix them professionally, this one was fixed for a friend.
how do you replace capacitor of classic kitchen aid mixer
May available po ba kayong sencor stand mixer STM3620HW
I need the plastic gear on mine. Where can I order it from ?
My mixer turns on but it doesn’t spin. I’m thinking it’s one of the gears. I tried taking all the screws in the video but when I got to the motor and the top part, it seems to be stuck as if it was glued on. I tried prying it open with multiple flatheads but nothing works. I’m not sure what to do.
Thank you very much.
Boy really wish it went into how to take the motor apart. Mine isn’t working. Can’t figure out how to get access to the rotor and stator to put a meter on it. Do these things have fuses?
This one tells you how

Tha k u i just bought minr n used it twice. I out bread dough in and it was fine n now it flshut off and feels hot. Kimds smelt a kittle soemthing but not really. Im pretty handy n i know to shut thingd off if thrybsre burning. I noticed when i forst used it my slide button wouldnt turn it on id have to slide it back n forth a bit or twice ans it woukd start up. So im imagining with all the jumoing on the counter its done thr same. But it never did turn on right the fsy i got it. Strange. Me n my gf got thrm at the same time. All my stuff is on her laptop in my email but she passed away n i never used mine again. Just the one day. I dont have access to the email for my coverages either. Maybe if i call them. So id like to check mine out without ksoing warranty. We bought ours a coupke yrs ago tho. So not sure the warranty in them. Im kimda mad mines a professional 5 cost me over a grand so im not happy.
It would be a good time to clean out the old grease and replace the seal. It is starting to fail as you can see the grease outside the motor housing. It should be replaced with food grade grease.
Any way you can help me with fixing mine?
Did you fix your mixer? If not, what where your initial symptoms.
Why didn’t you coat gears with some grease?
Thanks for info.
Smeg mixer! I need help! Has anyone come across a video of the machine taken apart? If yes, share? I want to see what it looks like inside! thanks
Thank you
I’m taking a look at my mother-in-law’s mixer. I can hear an obvious whirring sound coming from either a set of gears going bad or bearing issue. Just checking out this video to see what I’m getting involved with. It’s just mechanical just take it one step at a time really.
My mixer was perfectly working and then start slowing down until completly stops.. Do you have any idea what can be wrong? and that you in advance for your help
I can't remember off hand, but the motors could have brushes. The brushes are small graphite blocks and wear down over time, or become dirty and prevent clean contact with the motor. They usually can usually be replaced. That might be something to investigate, but will probably require tearing the machine down completely. Good luck!
@@in-depthdiy2123Simple, just unscrew one big black plastic cap on both sides of the housing.
Did you fix your mixer?
@@BringItOn31124 I did replace the brushes but the mixer still wouldn’t work correctly, so I sent it to a technician for repairs and was told that the control board was faulty aswell, so that had to be repaired (some connections had to be re-soldered). I can say the initial problem was solved but now the mixer’s speeds control don’t work anymore - adjusting the speed lever doesn’t change the speed at all. 😏
@@navojoitason1556That slowing down and then completely stopping is a classic symptom of a bad phase control board. The tech sent your mixer back without resetting the speed controls? They took off the speed control plate to get to that phase control board that they "fixed".(Probably just replaced with a new one) That means that the speed controls would have to be reset. All that should have taken less than an hour to do and about 20 bucks for a new phase control board.
thanks a lot!
Funny my dough mixer also has one lock washer but the other screw has no lock washer... i will put a lock washer when i assemble it back.
he mentioned it was probable cheaper to only have one - for kitchenaid
Terima kasih Bos
So...this sounds like a manufacturing defect, a bad engineering design, that allows the wire to be caught in there.
Nice video.
You can see in the video that the black wire was accidently pinched behind the trim ring. That wire is oddly long because I have 2 mixers and neither one has a length of wire that can even come close to being pinched behind that ring. I don't think this is common at all.
5’23” helical gear…
Mil gracias compa por el video de gran ayuda y bien trabajo, saludos desde la luz Michoacan Mex
Do you think the plastic gear at the front could be used to replace the one that runs the main mixer, since I do not use any other attachments.
