My second year growing figs in containers.
Here in Denver CO zone 6a. Keeping a small collection. 5 varieties. To be able to care for them and do the shuffle dance in the spring. Nice video.

Hi Ian, good job ripping figs in our New England climate. Do you protect your Olympian fig ?? I’m thinking about planing one in the ground in Massachusetts mostly for the breba because main crop is to late here for in ground. It doesn’t even ripen in pots much here for me. The issue is depart g how to protect the breba beating wood over the winter.

I have 5 or 6 varieties, each year cropping varies. 2 years ago the Olympia was great 60+ fruit, this winter it suffered and was uncovered as yet lots of growth but no figs.

Hi befrugal, Yorkshire can be a grey and cold place in summer- tough to ripen figs in those conditions. What varieties ripen for you ?

I've never eaten figs, so why did I recoil when you bit into that one? You seemed to enjoy the taste though. I'm seeing more little tomatoes on my plants. However, I wonder if they'll get big and ripe enough before there's a frost? There are two big ones that might make it, if they'll just turn red soon. However, there are new flowers showing up, so they'll never mature and ripen in time. Not a chance. The Canada Geese are starting to practice their flying sessions each night in anticipation of flying south, and doing so this early suggests an early winter - to me, at least. Interesting video on the figs.

Fig taste varies with different varieties, growing conditions and degree of ripeness. Many figs a picked before they a fully ripe. They should be soft like marshmallow. The texture, taste and fragrance are very difficult to describe.
