  • Flying the J-3 Piper Cub from the place I learned to fly. Red Stewart Airfield in the mom and pops grass strip that has all the antique aircraft for rent. I learned to fly at this airport back in 1993 and 1994 and today I still go out and see them. Join Jamie and I as we take the J-3 up for a spin around the pattern.

Thank you for the running commentary and for mentioning the pattern size. I was taught to keep it tight. Airplanes want to fly and altitude is our friend.

I flew cubs at Red Stewart Airfield,1980 to 82, for $8.00 an hour. Red did my bi-annual. I am now retired and am returning to flying there and took my first hour back in a cub today.

I am from Fairborn right next to Dayton. I have been flying years ago and logged roughly 20 hours but was to young to solo at the time. Now I'm looking to get back into it at 46 years old and going to check this place out . I will mention your video! Thanks for sharing.

Kevin, you'll love the atmosphere at Red Stewart. Nothing like a good ol grassroot Airfield.

Dewey, thanks for your videos. As a tailwheel instructor, it is great to have videos like this to reference with my students. Fly safe and blue skies!

I took a ride in a cub much like this one once with my dad. And I have got to say. This was as close to pro as it could get. Blessings my friends.

This was the 2nd airplane I've ever been in. The first was a Quicksilver Sport 2S. Both were an absolute blast. Since then, I've flown $500k C172S among pretty much the entire 172 lineup. I'm also checked out in a Comanche 260. After 4 years of flying boujie 172s and a relatively high performing Comanche, I've found low and slow to be much more fun. I'm about to head back to Red Stewart before buying my own Champ.

You're a great guy Dewey. My wife and I enjoy your vlogs. I have a request, if you can. Can you show or demonstrate how lift occurs above the wing. In other words she, like most people believe, the wing gets pushed up from the air beneath. I tell it's the vacuum from the low pressure created by the curve of the wing. Thank you. Your friend, Ken.

Ken, I'll try to explain that in a later video.

That's some old school flying right there and seems to be totally hands on. Personally, I'm leery of single prop, older planes! But maybe that's just me. Lol! Great video and thanks for sharing.

    Dewey,
Great video. I didn’t get much time in tailwheels when I was getting my ratings and chasing that first job. Looks fun. I need to come see you in the summertime for some low and slow.
