Why do people on the Internet need to be mean? I love the cornucopia of choice we get for F1 analysis these days, it keep me 'in' and excited for the race weekends, even if Max is maxing all over the fkn place. I wanna see you and ladderman and tommo and Matt and Tommy and Aiden milward and Peter and that photographer guy all go karting with quadrant with pitstop and enjoy y'all taking the pss.
Well put. K-Mag’s always been a bit of a dirty defender. I love how hard he defends, but not how often he goes over the line. My bigger problem is that he’s just been a mediocre driver forever.
@@The_ZeroLine Mediocre.....wtf..?? He has a Pole Position, been on the podium, set a fastest lap that stood for 5 years in an crappy car, and he`s won The Lorenzo Bandini Trophee...............not really mediocre Mate !!!!! I`m aware that Hülkenberg has outperformed him for the past two seasons, but Hülkenberg.........NO podium, NO Lorenzo Bandini Trophee that`s much closer to " Mediocre " + he has 3 seasons more experience than K-Mag.......so he should be better..........😁
@@onkelmarvin8360 he hasn't been on the podium in eleven seasons, has gone 169 races without one and his pole was a fluke. But I agree, he's not mediocre; he's always sucked. Somehow some drivers do nothing of value but still get all the excuses for him for a decade or more. That goes for both Haas drivers.
still people underestimate the experience you need to do what he does...bet if his teammate was lets say sargeant even if hes driving dangerously wich kmag isnt...hed still struggle to keep someone behind, kmag isnt dangerous hes just braking the rules...stroll is dangerous to me unless you literally push drivers inside a corner or weave on straights or brake check, you are okay...those 3 are not
@@mrbungle3310Kmag is a dangerous driver lmao. Since like 2018. As a fan, his "driving" has given us a lot of entertainment but surely you can't defend how reckless he's being.
Why are we acting like K.Mag is acting alone. He's obviously being told by his team leadership to make some of the on track moves he's making. They share some small amount of blame for his penalties.
@@AnarRamazanov-po5le 1. Are we sure? 2. Like I said. Some small amount of blame. Meaning he's gone too far. Even if they did ask him protect Hulk in a hyperagressive way.
The problem with overtakes in F1 created a nasty side effect. This sport doesn't value an eager defender. Before Magnussen the last driver known for this was Trulli and it was almost two decades ago. There's also Alonso, but he can do literally everything.
Remember Perez in 2021 where he defended really, really well at the Turkish GP and Abu Dhabi, without shunting? Honestly, I think there is a difference between aggressive driving and good defending, though sometimes the lines can blur, of course.
lotta people seem to have forgotten but his "defending" in 2018 was pretty shambolic, squeezed people off track and moved under braking any time anyone was in his mirrors as leclerc said in japan 2018 "magnussen is and will always be stupid"
@@fish1313 Exactly. Even his current teammate had a moment with kevin, calling him "once again, the dirtiest driver on the grid", to which Keving famously responded "I kindly ovject to that, sir".
What peiple does not seem to talk about is how many times just this season he has made sure that cameras has been on haas and their sponsors. Often more than any top team during races. That itself is an insane achievement as a midfield team driver.
@@nathanakers45 He hasn’t really had a competitive car, but agree that Hulkenberg has outperformed him. I just think if he takes one for the team and sacrifices his own race to help his teammate, and does it effectively, he won’t be fired. Even if he gets a one race suspension, that gives Haas a chance to blood Bearman, so it’s all tactical.
You leave K-Mag alone! They just f*cked with the wrong Viking.! ;) P.S. The "masterracecrafter" Alonso also racked up 6 penalty points already in the span of three races, leaving Russell fearing for his his life in Melbourne. Maybe we should discuss the danger "OAP drivers", well past their prime, pose to themselves and others?
The amount of people saying that he's "doing what he has to do" because of how the rules etc work, are clearly ignoring the 19 other drivers driving with the exact same rules who don't "have to" drive like that
I think saying he has to drive like that is the wrong wording, it's more he's willing to overstep the mark and just clearly be in the wrong for the good of the team. It's like a tactical foul in football. Sometimes a yellow card or even a red is worth it if it means winning the game. The "dark arts" are in every sport, honestly kind of respect him for being willing to even maybe get license points just for a few points for his teammate, who he doesn't even like, just to help the team.
@@chiefbeef9905 There's nothing to respect. I like Kmag, and he's exciting to watch, but I dont respect his ethics or what he stands for as a driver. Like seriously, would Senna ever just accept being slow and play second fiddle for multiple races? Would MSC, Ham, Max, Leclerc, Alonso, f***ing any of the current top 10 crop of drivers in f1 right now do what Kmag is doing. The best F1 drivers race to achieve a dream. To win, to be the best. So how could I admire Kevin's antics when more than half the grid actually races for the simple purpose of being the best! I just don't understand how Kevin could see his teammate being just about quick enough to get points and deciding to just **keep being slow** to protect Nico. Sargeant to me is by far the more respectable driver.
I’m no expert, but didn’t Max and Lewis go pretty hard at it In 2021? Outbraking, brake checking, forcing and crashing each other?..not to justify doing so, but maybe comparing scoring one point more or less is something all drivers are keen on.
here's a bright idea: if you change the point system to give points to drivers lower down the grid then it won't make sense to drive like this in the first place
Yeah my thoughts exactly. I've only watched F1 for about 5 years but I have never understood why all positions didn't get points. It would also give a more representative championship standings based on which teams are performing well consistently, instead of one team having one or two good results from chaotic races and gaining a place in the championship at the end of the year.
Bang on, I have never understood the points system in F1, in my opinion points should be awarded down to 20th place, a car can finish in tenth place in every GP and at the end of the season be level on points with a team that finishes 20th in every race how does that make sense.
Fucking yes, please. Every position except for dead last should receive points!!! Right now it is more worthwhile to retire the car and save on the parts for next race then it is to actually finish the current race if you are below 10th. It is insane.
@@birandkorayno, 20 times being 11th is still worse than finishing 10th once and 20th remaining times. awarding points all the way till 19th makes sense.
Based on his recent interviews and gestures i think that he himself knows that the team wont extend him for his pure performance/results so the only reason to keep his case for a seat interesting is to "impress" with his willingness to play the team game and do everything in his matter to contribute to the team even if he’s is clearly the weaker driver with very low chances of scoring points in normal circumstances.
well just as Hulk said last race, he has been a great team player but he needs to start racing for himself. Problem is he probably cant because if he could, he would be infront of Hulk and then he wouldnt need to be hir rear gunner
All of the backing up the pack "shenanigans" is completely logical for a team that has nothing to loose. The Sargent thing really didn't make any sense because there was no point in it but all the other stuff should have Haas thrilled with KMag. This is all a consequence of the inherent unequal nature of F1 as a sport.
As an American coming in a little late, the payouts in F1 have always seemed really weird to me. Especially the “Ferrari gets money just because” payout.
@@extragoogleaccount6061 I'm an American fan too but have been avidly watching F1 sense 2012. I actually do get the pay outs, especially to Ferrari and McLaren both those brands, as pure sports/racings brands not only validate F1 as the pinnacle of racing but also are synonymous with F1 as the two oldest names in open wheel racing (Mercedes is sort of a legacy brand as well but they left racing in 1955 for a very long time so their story has more to do with the prestige of their recent championships more so then as a legacy team). Haas, for example, as a brand gains prestige from the other teams it is associated with as apposed to adding to their prestige to the other teams. I had never even heard of Haas before they entered F1. If Ferrari and McLaren were to leave F1 it would massively devalue F1 as a brand it only makes sense that they should get a cut but the value they add with their brands.
@@extragoogleaccount6061 all teams get some money depending on the time theyve been competing, Ferrari gets more because they were racing in F1 since day 1
Kevin is just ready to play the game. In the current F1 climate where points are only available when Lance does Lance things or when one of the top teams DNF. While Kevin has been aggressive, it's not because it's how he drives but rather what he has to do. The issue is not with him but the rues and points system.
What if Kevin's career IS being a Defender? Not every driver is hired to chase the Championship. Some are hired to defend the Champion contender. This entire video gets the context all wrong. Kevin's job is to defend Nico so the team can score points. That's it. That's his job. Kevin is left tackle to Nico's quarterback. In the right context, it all makes sense.
F1 "experts" on Instgram and TH-cam continue to get clicks throwin Kevin under the bus while World Chanpions like Lewis call it good racing. Ill leave it there.
Understand the regulations. The car infront can run another car wide but must do it when the other car isn't far enough along side to be given space also the defending car must stay on track why doing it and maintain control. Lewis and others apart from Max and K mag have always done this.
0:29 and for those who don't know, the FIA can, will, and has already bent over backwards to ensure no driver ever reaches 12 points, including randomly forving penalty points because of reasons like "We spoke to driver and it looks like he learned his lesson this time, so we took some points off".
I’m pretty sure they’ve never taken points off. You’ll need to give an example there because I can’t find anything. But they have bent the rules to not give penalty points that would have led to a ban, Gasly in Australia last year rejoining the track and wiping out his teammate causing a red flag, got nothing.
I'm just curious to find out how the FIA is going to excuse every future KMag incident so he doesn't get a race ban. While a few years ago the way Gasly got on the brink of getting a ban was ridiculous, from that point onwards some of his actions really should've gotten him that ban, yet the FIA kept bailing him out by not punishing him for it, or even if they did not adding any penalty points.
Magnussen is going to school Bearman, like he did with Schumacher. Hulkenberg is only outperforming in Qualifying, where in the Race - the points are mostly earned by Magnussen team mentality. You missed the fact that Hulkenberg cut the chicane and cut off Magnussen from the DRS train, which with their higher top speed; could have very likely resulted in both cars scoring points instead of the mess you wanna blame Magnussen for. Listen to drivers if you wanna form an opinion on what is too much, don't listen to some random team principal who never even did karting. What you and other wannabe F1 experts should focus on, is addressing the root cause of why this is going on and not just that Magnussen right now is making it more visible - the cars are too big and the tracks are not made for these cars nor promoting some actual good racing.
Except Magnussen didn't school Schumacher. He started the season better but by the end of the season, Schumacher was comfortably matching him probably beating him - in fact over the whole season Schumacher finished ahead 9-6 in races that they both finished. That's pretty embarrassing for a drive of KMag's experience, tbh.
@@jbaidley If your observations were correct, Mick should have been able to find another seat after Haas, instead of Toto feeling sorry for him and publicly praise him. Yet with Hamilton leaving, there is not a single word about Mick getting that seat. If Toto really did believe Mick deserves to be in F1, he would have announced that like 3 seconds after Hamilton going to Ferrari.
The big teams just don't see it in Mick. When Ferrari didn't rescue him from Haas after 2021, where he feuded with the Mazepins and the car was hopeless, that told me what they thought of him. Alfa had 2 seats open and a great mentor in Fred Vasseur and nothing happened. He'll be eternally trackside next to Toto and Esteban Gutierrez (another ex-Haas driver that will never race another F1 lap) until he gets bored of it.
I think it's a bit unfair to compare Magnussens driving to that of Alonsos in Hungary in 2021. After all, that Alpine was pretty fast. It looks desperate because it is. If he doesn't throw everything at it, the other cars are just going to fly past him, and on the occasions where he protected Hulkenberg, they would catch up to him pretty quickly as well. Haas decided to use the rulebook to its full extent, and every other team can do so too. They obviously came to the conclusion that it's worth sacrificing a car, to enable another car to score points. Even if it's only a single point. I don't like it, but it's the name of the game right now. Now, why is he being sacrificed all the time, and Hulkenberg gets to score all the points? Because he screws up qualifying every. single. weekend. Hulkenberg is getting into Q3 regularly, while Magnussen is struggling to get out of Q1. Hulkenbergs average starting position is 11,8 and Magnussens is 15,8... That's just not good enough. On top of that he has made some silly mistakes, even excluded all the harsh defending. Spinning out Tsunoda in China was clumsy and squeezing Albon into the wall in Saudi Arabia was unnecessary. I still think Sargeant was more to blame for the crash in Miami though. He admitted to not seeing him. In my opinion, Magnussen was entitled to the space. I'm Danish and I'm going to the Hungarian GP. Watch him time the ban perfectly for the one race I actually get to see in real life...
Drive throughs are not the answer I do not trust the stewards choices in 90% of these cases for how severe their penalties are but if we put points all the way down the grid then that changes things because then even finishing helps you throughout the season its gives more reason to be pursuing finishing as high as you can up the grid.
I loved seeing the action. (not crashes*) Theres always been crashes and such. Idk if the crash with Sargeant is Kevins fault alone. He went for a gap, he raced.
Right, say what you will about KMag, but during that particular contact, the right wheels of his car were barely on the track, meaning, he wasn't left any space at all. And the front of his car was halfway beside Logan's, meaning the based on the regs, he could not be expected to back out.
FA is one of the fairest/cleanest drivers in F1. It’s the 🇬🇧 media’s dislike for FA that’s given him a bit of a rep this season (not Aldas who’s one of the fairest pundits I’ve seen). It’s the reason he has no famous crashes with other drivers while Seb, Lewis, Max (let alone MSC lol) have so many iconic collisions. K-Mag is a driver who has always had a tendency to stray into dirty when his hard, but legal defense doesn’t work.
It's simple. The drivers have been told "Score points at any cost." Kmag is being celebrated by his team management AND the internet for this dirty driving. If he gets a race ban, they will call up Bearman to replace him for a race, then bring him back to keep intentionally fouling to block for Nico. I genuinely hope Bearman sees the way Haas is racing and says "you know what, I'm good." if he's asked to come up to Haas. Haas' current racing is very on brand for the namesake of the team considering Haas was caught illegally selling CNC machines to the Russian military after the US sanctions took place.
totally plus he was like centimetres to being legal...what piastri did to carlos was 1000% legal... kmag did a simmilar thing but the KEY difference is kmag was off track and piastri was within the limits...both defenses aren't dangerous in my books, one is legal one is not...its not piastris problem or kmags that sainz and hamilton chose the outside...the rules in racing are always the same...guy that has the inside and is especially ahead and within the track limits has the right to keep that position...max in Saudi did that, its not illegal...if you are faster pass him on the inside or outside or f off...thats racing not this drs practice session glorification
Currently bearman problem isn't Haas but being absolutely destroyed by Kimi Antonelli even though Ollie has raced in F2 and F3 precioslusly him being half a second off doesn't sit well for his future either
@@MuhammadNiz007 Bearman is way overhyped. Giving Bearman another outing in F1 might be a good thing for KMag. He has been awful in F2, and he got too much praise for getting 7th with the 2nd best card in Jeddah
Perez destroyed Kevin, it was Perez who turned in, kevin was parallel to a wall, and he was push off his racing line and into the wall because perez decided that racing line was his even though kevin was already in it. Perez wasn't in his ideal line at all. As is evident when looking at all the others who took turn 1 the exact same way, Norris for example has half a car more to the right, there was definitely space between Norris and Russel both of them fit through, but Kmag was sent to the barrier, yet everyone says KMag went for it. Excusemy he had a narrower line in turn 1 and was allready on Checos inside when Checo decided to close the door too late.
I have to disagree with your last statement. The issue that Andrea Stella is pointing is that he's not making mistakes. He's making all those 'tactical' mistakes to gain an advantage. He's being full unsportmanlike. Some sports have a prevision to have a tactical fault withing the gameplay, like a player kicking the ball out of the field to make the other team pause their attack. That's legit. Defending a race position is totally fine. He's generating a sort of fear among his peers, like to attempt to overtake him will means a race ending incident. We need to consider to give more points, maybe to give points for the first 15 cars classified, this will make the fight more fair, and the championship results will be far more accurate.
He’s not dangerous. He’s being the best team mate. It’s fair play. Not even Lewis said anything negative about what he did. A team like Haas etc will do anything to get points.
Your video makes some fine points, but I think it falls short by assuming that this is all Magnussen's doing. No driver wants to get a race ban; he's well aware of the penalty points risks. I don't believe he just went mental and lost all self-control. In his interviews, in particular the most recent at Miami, he sounded defeated, as if he has no choice in the matter. Whether that's true or not, it indicates that these driving choices he makes are not entirely within his control.
I think the key to understanding what is going on here is remarks made by Kevin himself after Miami. That he chose to drive like he did because Nico ditched him and didn't allow him to stay in his DRS. I think Kevin got mad at Nico and Haas because he felt they screwed him over, and he decided to go full on chaos in protest. Was this the smart or right choice? Probably not, but we don't know what is going on between Kevin, Nico and Haas atm and maybe Kevin has reasons from off track to basically act like he couldn't give a toss about anything and anyone, I think his remarks kinda point in that direction.
K Mag is being asked to do a certain job for the team and he is doing just that. You could argue that K Mag puts himself in that position by qualifying poorly and behind Hulk but it is clear that the teams strategy for K Mag is as a disrupter and I think even if he qualified better than Hulk the team would still ask him to play that disrupter role.
KMAG!!!! A total underestimated driver!!! Natural talent with old school race spirit! To bad He never has a break getting to a better team, cause He does not have the economy behind him like other drivers, cause Denmark is a little Country and most teams dont see the Country as a Commercial +. I dont agree with you on the crashes, but i guess you are at the end of the day very British like Sky Sports are!!! Even the other drivers that had a moment with him, say that the penalties were to harsh, like Albon commented And you are not a fan of old school racing! Since you were not born at that time i would guess!! by the way....I am 57. Hard style driving, was the good old days in F1, now it is just totally boring, if drivers like KMAG doesn't make it interesting! Now a days, even F1 has become totally Woke! Not enjoyable!
I know some of his moves (this season and over the years) have been a bit indefensible, but I just like the guy damnit. I respect the fact that he's not there to make friends and doesn't care how unpopular he is with other drivers. He's just there to do the best for himself and his team, end of.
The problem with the penalties is that the FIA claims to NOT take in account the results of the accident. Which, imho, is cute... but WRONG. 😂 Because it is the outcome of the incident that hurts. So if drivers are wheelbanging and one drivers gets off line, loses control and crashes into the shadowrealm, that needs to be punished hard. If the driver somehow manages to maintain control, just run wide for example , then a more lenient penaltie might be in place. I also hate the "ITS the rules" argument.. because an entity that is so goddamn inconsistent with applying the rules, should not be utilizing exacty that argument. Ffs. 😅😂 Also : if you get a penalty, you must serve it within a few laps (let's say 5) if you don't pit, you carry the penalty to the next race. Still not flawless but i think a much better solution
There's an easy fix for this - if a driver is deliberately trying to ruin the other driver's race while creating dangerous circumstances you black flag them. Obviously, you can not solely trust FIA with this and there needs to be thorough discussion on what is or isn't deliberate/malicious but 3+ penalties in a single race should automatically retire you to the pits as you're no longer racing at that point.
I think it's far too harsh on Kevin. It makes perfect sense to me what he's doing. He's gaming the stupid penalty system. I also think he's clearly dominated by Hulk, so his seat should be in question. But don't call him unsportsmanlike or similar.
this is the first video i have fully disagreed with you u cant say kmag is a mediocre driver juust cause of one season look at his career he was set to become a top team driver but mclaren did him dirty
6:54 I think Stella speaking up is because McLaren DO have a lot to gain or lose from this issue. More than Haas even. I bet McLaren see P2 in the constructors as possible. They don't want their rivals like Max, Charles, or Fernando going full K-Mag on them at a critical time without punishment.
Well this would not be a problem if points where given to places outside the top 10. With the consistency of the modern F1 cars there should be more point giving positions so we can actually judge which team is consistently good and not just scrapping a lucky point finish here and there.
If F1 have created an evironment, where 3-4 points might make the difference between finishing last or 7th, 6th in contructors championship - then what is more valuable to Haas, getting those points, or missing KMag for one race? Why not make him get those extra penalty points in a streak of races, where the recon they don't have any chance of scoring points ayway, so they get the ban out of the way? Every other team in the bottom half of the grid, might say it's horrible because they have to, but at the same time are taking notes.
Here’s the thing, F1 is and always has been a biased sport. 2021 is replete with crazy ass driving by Max and at times Lewis. But since that’s a championship fight, that’s “hard racing”. Fernando and Checo drove super defensively to protect their teammates in 2021 & that’s cool too. But thanks to social media, we are now quick to blast a driver.
You can’t say he will lose his seat for defending like this. He is the reason that hulkenburg has the points he has. Haas need to score as many points as they can early in the season. Previous years upgrades they’ve had haven’t been good compared to other teams so they will need to utilise this advantage as much as they can. He is exactly what they need this year, a sacrificial lamb. If he gets a race ban then they’ll just place in bearman for a round to help give him more experience for next year
If anything the unsportsmanlike driving is what's giving him a chance of retaining his seat. Let's face it, the only realistic option KMag has is sticking with Haas, so burning bridges with other teams isn't going to hurt his chances. And for Haas, it's already gained them points in Saudi, and had Hamilton not gotten a penalty himself it would've been crucial in scoring them an extra point in Miami as well. The other crashes are not a good look of course, but I see his ability to defend at all cost and willingness to sacrifice his race for the team as working in his favour rather than against him. Haas could bring in someone like Bottas, who is faster, but since he can't defend to save his life I don't see Haas scoring the points they have so far with him in that car.
Depending on how the race for the other seats play out, I could see either Bottas or Sainz (if he loses out on the second Sauber seat to someone like Zane Maloney) moving to Haas in '25 alongside Bearman.
Intentionally slowing down like in Saudi is kind of what you might expect from a team game as we've seen before. But going off-track repeatedly and using that as a way to keep someone back during the race isn't racing anymore, it's abusing the time penalty system because you know your race doesn't matter anyway. I do hope if he continues this that he does get a race ban or two or he gets black flagged because hard racing happens within the track limits, it doesn't involve crashing and forcing people off the track or going off-track yourself just to keep someone behind. At that point you might as well just ask everyone to ignore track limits and let everyone go crazy.
Bottas and bearman, I think Haas needs to freshen things up and that would be an exciting lineup of youth and potential with a driver who's been at the front of the grid for several seasons, I also think a fresh start might do Bottas good
Clearly you forgot that Norris was given a penalty of unsportmanlike conduct last year for slowing down to create a gap for a pit stop under the safety car...Stella was commenting on that inconsistence!
I have a different perspective.. surely, KMag's driving is uber aggressive and deserving of a penalty... but he on his own has made 2 races so interesting to watch (Saudi and Miami).. Infact, because of KMag, Hulkenberg has scored points in both those races, and the Haas car is getting so much TV coverage despite being out of the points.. which is a win for the sponsors as well.. two birds with one stone.. Its not ethical definitely, but its entertaining as hell.. 😂
Don't know how the call from '82 was not included. Although the battle started earlier as a result if pit stop timing, the last 10 laps were fantastic. Rick Mears was about 10-11 seconds behind Gordon Johncock. Mears gained a second a lap, pulled alongside Gordo as the white flag dropped. Gordo held off Mears for the win, by only 0.16 seconds. I attended that race.
This is the "dark arts" of F1, he knows how to play the game. Only the same as in football, players getting cards on purpose to win the game for their team. He by no means "has to" drive like that, but honestly gains a lot if respect from me, to throw away his weekend a lot of the time for the good of the team, and a teammate ye doesn't really like and who is leaving after this season. Also, might not even be him making that call, Haas could easily just be saying to them "whoever qualifies 2nd of the 2, your job is soley to help the other by any means necessary". In a season where points are only really on offer if someone from the top DNFs or a Lance Stroll happens, it wouldn't be surprising at all.
i always think everyone is always agianst kmag hes done a superb job for his team this should be your 1st priority everyone else second i dont get why everyone is agianst hard racing its become boring cause of all these rules its called racing incidents
Lewis was one reprimand away from getting a Grid Pen for AD2021 and then did something that should be reprimanded. They gave him an other type of penalty instead. That's what may happen to Kevin. Rather giving him monetary penalties instead of a point.
I don't think he will get fired. He knows it is not the driving that he wants to do, but he still does it for the team. Also it has never been actually dangerous driving.
I suspect that there is a game being played, mainly against the current rulings and sometimes confusing dealing by officials by the drivers...KMag has been in F1 and racing long enough and knows what he is doing and the support for Nico has to be applauded as the points gained help the team. it might be that KMag & Nico have a private deal that when in the possible points position, the other driver does everything he can to support, its just that Nico has had the advantage....KMag is living the dream that when he left Haas he believed his F1 career was over so every race is magic to him and he knows that supporting Haas will give him opportunities post F1 ... but I maybe looking with rose tinted glasses but step back and look where Haas are and the fact they are comfortably 7th when maybe their points flatter their car...that's $$$$ and exposure...if KMag missed one of the 24 races where he is unlikely to score points...I very much doubt he will be too upset, especially if they put in another driver who may..or not perform...get the points..and ban then have a race where you can watch and muse over tactics from the side-line, then yes he will make a good team leader and a base to see how the car compares and I suspect if team leader, there will be a different KMag
If you're out of the points and only driving to impede the cars behind you, even if it means breaking the rules, then you should get a drive-through rather than a 10 second penalty. That will get you out of the way of the guys behind.
time penalties aren’t enough for this kind of behavior on track. drive through penalties or at least a long lap penalty like in motogp needs to be implemented to immediately rectify these incidents.
I doubt that Kevin is going to be at Haas next year since he's not prepared to train up Oliver...and considering how much Komatsu values Bearman's potential...yeah...
What's funny is F1 fans seem to think every car on the grid is a RedBull... But they're not... Not just in speed, but how easy/hard they are to drive... Haas have always had bad cars, with long documented history of them being extremely unpredictable and with reliability in pieces, getting consistency out of the car is next to impossible. That's why NOBODY in haas has been able to do it. No lap is ever the same in horribly bad cars. The end of the Stella comment is the important bit that is being overlooked. He's not talking about Kevin driving badly, he's talking about Kevin driving AT ALL. He's talking about how the bottom end of the drivers are driving deliberately against cars they should not be, and in the manner that will always be damaging... Stella KNOWS that a bad car will always cause an issue, thats why when the McLarens are doing nothing at all, they stay purely out of the way, as not to cause an issue... Kevin is a very good driver, and if he was in say, that Alpine at the time, Or Checo's RedBull against Lewis in 2021, we wouldn't see these mistakes... Because those cars were reliable... Haas is not... He was told by the team to defend for Nico, and that's what he did... Despite knowing the car is bad, thats what he did... His calm demeanor about it shows that it was impossible for him to drive that car as clean as some would like, and accepts that it's part of the Haas game... And when the rules are set out the way they are, it's causing him and the lower grid teams even more issues..
Maybe f1 should look at bringing in a long Lap penalty similar to MotoGp to replace the 5 second penalty in some situations, because it can give a near instant effect on track
I agree with this. It would require a serious look at circuit layouts though. Long laps at Monaco, Baku? It’s the right way to go in my opinion, but where do you install the long lap lanes? Especially with F1’s current fascination with walled street circuits. I’d love to see it implemented somehow.
Paraphrasing Hulk at the last race; hes doing a great job for the team but also at some stage he has to start racing for himself - which is a great point because he probably cant, and thats why he is coping with so much 'doing it for the team' talk
Easy solution to this problem, give points further down the grid. These antics would not work if Kmag was still in a point scoring position, as he would be incentivized to finish as high up as possible. Right now anything below ten essentially does not matter. When we saw this tactic the first time I was wondering what would stop Haas from continuing to do this and the answer is almost nothing. I am surprised other teams at the lower end of the grid have not deployed the same tactic as it gets them those very elusive points.
I slightly disagree with your point on a rookie being in the team is risky at 11:17. Lando, George, and Albon worked because they were highly touted prospects, all of which had/have shots of becoming future world champions when they end up at the right team. At the same time I feel like Mick Schumacher had the Nyck De Vries vibe about him where F2 was as far as he needed to go in the F1 ladder, because he just didn't have "it". Ollie Bearman has "it", he can stack up to whoever you put him against at haas. Kimi Antonelli I think needs another year or two, but he has "it" as well.
Time has changed. F1 is more strict about the rules now. What K Mag did to Lewis is the same what Max did to Lewis in Brasil 2021. - pushed both himself and Lewis off the track and got no penalties. K Mag will have to adapt to knew rules and thats that.
I watched 'Debrief Med Kevin Magnussen' after Miami, there he spoke about the incidents with the danish commentators. And Kevin told after the race when he spoke with the stewards they talked about there's something wrong with the rules, even the stewards said that there's something wrong with the crash with Logan. Kevin shouldn't have got a penalty. Logan knew he was there and if he went on the curb, he would go straight, because the floor would bottom. So Logan didn't give enough space. And the intense battle with Hamilton. Hamilton didn't even complain, because it was hard racing, they race like that in Indycar, said Kevin. I think that battle was a little too hard.
Magnussen is probably going to do a Lord Mahaveer at this rate. Get enough points to get banned twice in a season. Funny thing is, it doesn't even matter. Haas is still better off doing this for their point total, especially if whoever they sub in does exactly the same thing. The thing is some people say it's hard racing but if everybody did this, it'd turn into Mario Kart, bumper cars or your average online f1 lobby. I agree the sport needs to be made more exciting but this isn't the answer. Unfortunately the answers are things the top teams will veto because Bernie gave them too much power.
To me the Sargeant crash looked a lot like the albon crash in jeddah, just with bigger consequences. Albon went halfway alongside kmag and got squeezed. Kmag went halfway alongside Sargeant and got squeezed.
The penalty system should be changed, so that if someone gets two time penalties they are automatically combined into a drive-through. A drive-through must be taken within 3 laps, thus drastically reduces the amount of further damage that can be done by trading track position agains penalties.
If the stewards don't want to tell the teams/drivers to give a position back directly, just give them a drive through, if the driver caused a collision and the affected driver has to pit for damages then give a stop go penalty to the offending driver, at the end of the day this isn't a kmag problem this is a FIA problem don't blame the player here blame the game and kmag is just playing the game
I think you are viewing this wrong... i think Haas is just using him as a litteral batteringram just to get hulk in the points... its his Villian arc and its glorious! ❤
I fully agree that another driver might be better than Kmag, but Haas have tried two rookies before and that didn't went well. Getting two rookies is not the right thing for that team.
Lawson could be an interesting prospect for Haas, he's a proven point scorer and from what red bull have been saying a seat next year may not happen with vcarb
We need an alternative to Drive Through penalties, as the Pit Lane is already a crowded and dangerous place. Presumably some kind of 'detour route' penalty

The problem with overtakes in F1 created a nasty side effect. This sport doesn't value an eager defender. Before Magnussen the last driver known for this was Trulli and it was almost two decades ago. There's also Alonso, but he can do literally everything.
Australia: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!
Alonso can do everything in terms of skill yes but he's also getting penalties left and right
Remember Perez in 2021 where he defended really, really well at the Turkish GP and Abu Dhabi, without shunting? Honestly, I think there is a difference between aggressive driving and good defending, though sometimes the lines can blur, of course.
Magnussen was always cheeky, to say the least. Remember Alonso’s comment a few years ago? “What i see from Magnussen, I never saw in my life”.

Sometimes a yellow card or even a red is worth it if it means winning the game. here's a bright idea: if you change the point system to give points to drivers lower down the grid then it won't make sense to drive like this in the first place
Bang on, I have never understood the points system in F1, in my opinion points should be awarded down to 20th place, a car can finish in tenth place in every GP and at the end of the season be level on points with a team that finishes 20th in every race how does that make sense.
not bright, it is just a makeup, standings already determined by position, higher position, higher ranking
Haas, for example, as a brand gains prestige from the other teams it is associated with as apposed to adding to their prestige to the other teams. Magnussen keeps me watching F1. I honestly don’t think he’s been dirty since his return to Haas. The FIA should pay his salary at this point…
I totally disagree. They need to change the rules. Kmag is doing a stellar job mate
Hes not dangerous. Hes dane-gerous 😂
He has a vacation planned before the end of the season and he's looking to get a week off.
The things the British will say to prop up Bearman...
The biggest problem of K-mag, is that his flag isn't British. If that was the case, it would all be racing incidents or the other driver's fault.
Drive throughs are not the answer I do not trust the stewards choices in 90% of these cases for how severe their penalties are but if we put points all the way down the grid then that changes things because then even finishing helps you throughout the season its gives more reason to be pursuing finishing as high as you can up the grid.
As opposed to boring, I’ll take K-Mag! He has great racing skill! (BTW, narrator is a little negative. It’s a great year for HAAS).

Guess Ollie Bearman will get another F1 drive
It's simple. The drivers have been told "Score points at any cost." Kmag is being celebrated by his team management AND the internet for this dirty driving. If he gets a race ban, they will call up Bearman to replace him for a race, then bring him back to keep intentionally fouling to block for Nico.
I genuinely hope Bearman sees the way Haas is racing and says "you know what, I'm good." if he's asked to come up to Haas. Haas' current racing is very on brand for the namesake of the team considering Haas was caught illegally selling CNC machines to the Russian military after the US sanctions took place.

2 weeks later, he destroys perez in monaco
Whether that's true or not, it indicates that these driving choices he makes are not entirely within his control.
just get the 2 more. put in Oliver Bearman for a race. all the pointed get deleted after the missed raced. i'm not saying its right.
Even the other drivers that had a moment with him, say that the penalties were to harsh, like Albon commented
And you are not a fan of old school racing!
Which, imho, is cute... but WRONG. 😂
Because it is the outcome of the incident that hurts.
Ffs. 😅😂
Also : if you get a penalty, you must serve it within a few laps (let's say 5) if you don't pit, you carry the penalty to the next race.
Still not flawless but i think a much better solution
Magnussen Shows me the F1 I want to watch! This is hard racing, not "Mommy, I have damage on my car 😭"
With the consistency of the modern F1 cars there should be more point giving positions so we can actually judge which team is consistently good and not just scrapping a lucky point finish here and there.
isnt that just diluting the value of what a point is worth?
I fucking love it, I've never loved Kmag more. GET IT!
Your answer was delivered in monaco
Bottas and bearman, I think Haas needs to freshen things up and that would be an exciting lineup of youth and potential with a driver who's been at the front of the grid for several seasons, I also think a fresh start might do Bottas good
bottas retired mentally, bad choice
Magnussen has a warrior spirit. I love it!
Lewis was one reprimand away from getting a Grid Pen for AD2021 and then did something that should be reprimanded. They gave him an other type of penalty instead. That's what may happen to Kevin. Rather giving him monetary penalties instead of a point.
Ain't no way people are blaming K-Mag for Miami? Like Logan literally didn't give him enough space.
let them race bro Kevin is playing the ultimate team game
He was the star of sprint race. Loved his performance.
time penalties aren’t enough for this kind of behavior on track. drive through penalties or at least a long lap penalty like in motogp needs to be implemented to immediately rectify these incidents.
I doubt that Kevin is going to be at Haas next year since he's not prepared to train up Oliver...and considering how much Komatsu values Bearman's potential...yeah...
just imply a stop and go penalty, problem solved. Kmag and haas are just exploring the rule to gain a advantage.
Jocker lap for penalties at least.
What do you do when your car is good in qualifying but has low race pace?
You use one car to build a gap. Just like this.
They should give drive through penalties again. So if you hold somebody up unfairly you'll loose the track position either way.
Bottas & Bearman would be a good line up for Haas
If the stewards don't want to tell the teams/drivers to give a position back directly, just give them a drive through, if the driver caused a collision and the affected driver has to pit for damages then give a stop go penalty to the offending driver, at the end of the day this isn't a kmag problem this is a FIA problem don't blame the player here blame the game and kmag is just playing the game
Nah he is being an absolute unit, playing the team game, zero fucks given, and I’m absolutely here for it😂
I think you are viewing this wrong... i think Haas is just using him as a litteral batteringram just to get hulk in the points... its his Villian arc and its glorious! ❤
Honestly this guy is terrible. Him and stroll must be gone this year otherwise it’s a disgrace.
