After watching Atlantis the lost empire one too many times, all I can hear is Vinny (even better? Pretty much every single line in that film for that character was improvised!).
Revisiting all things Fr. Sarducci, I love the humor and lack of vulgarity. We went to the same university and that makes me smile. Oh, yeah, and I want his $250 Bishop Kit.
He is very lovable. Say, does anyone know where to find his monologue where he's talking about dogs and says to a dog gobbling his food "Hey, what's your hurry? Late for a nap?"
He's still around, thank goodness! (In 2022) If they had coaxed him out if retirement to voice Mario in the movie, I don't see how that wouldn't be a major hit!
Father Guido Sarducci is one of the greatest characters to come out of our hippie generation shows n movies ever!!!! I am Catholic, n I REALLY identify with his character as a priest, n he is so totally cool for a member of the clergy!!! His insights n comments are profoundly hilarious, n I am 66 yrs old and know of him from SNL, but will always crack up watching him!!!! Attaboy, Don Novella!!!!
Father Guido was originally a side character from The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics. He was known for his ability to take enormous amounts of luggage through customs in various Latin American countries without ever being searched...because he had a Vatican passport. Frank Novello brought him to life flawlessly and unforgettably. A masterful achievement by a great comic actor. Go check out the old comics if you want to see how awesome his performance really is.
I liked it when Father G. would talk about the weather, and go on to some many things like UFOs ,and finally finish off with the weather. He had such a dry sense of humor, all the while keeping a straight face.I liked the old SNL when it was funny ,not obscene.
My favourite (and the funniest, in my opinion) thing he's ever done is the in-between songs sections of the Hip Hop Masterpiece "So.... How's Your Girl?" by Handsome Boy Modelling School!!! The comedy stuff in that album ALWAYS has me laughing, no matter how many times I've heard it before. If you've never listened to that album, do yourself a favour! The album itself is a modern masterpiece of Hip Hop music....., so the genuinely funny skits in between songs are just a bonus!
Brilliant... also there really SHOULD be a historical dramedy film about the creation of and early days of SNL... Don was prolly an original staff writer, and w/ Belushi, Chevy, Bill Murray, Gilda, Garrett & the gals, the rest of the production team, the Canada Connection ...it WRITES ITSELF! But good luck finding actors talented and gutsy enuf to play the orig NRFPT Players!
It was never funny. This jackass or John bulushi being a samurai, it's always been utter, utter shit. How the hell is this shit funny? Where am I supposed to laugh?
@John Hempel Not trying to get into a thing here. It’s just that “SNL hasn’t been funny since ____” is a tired cliché. Humor is subjective, and if it’s not funny to you, yet still on the air 48 years later, it’s likely you’re just not getting the jokes. That’s on you, not the show. I agree with the second half of your initial statement 100% btw. Novello was the real deal.
0:01 I am Italian and take HUGE offense to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take it off the air!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... not really... but doesn't it sound ridiculous to say that????
There are a few more Canadians than that but, a land mass a little larger than the U.S. with a population less than California. Of course a lot of that land is barren tundra.

Absolutely loved Jay as the father. Unfortunately this is an artifact from an error in which people could actually simply be funny. New York and other large cities were full of people who actually spoke this way. This would not be acceptable today with PC hypersensitivities governing everything. How utterly sad.
I think my favorite part of the whole Sarducci story is how he bought the original get-up for $7.50 at a Catholic bazaar way back when. That's gotta be the best-spent $7.50 in history. He made himself quite famous with it.

I adore him. My favorite by far.
Too funny 🤣

came here for this
His album is great. The "paying for your sins" bit is a classic.
his "find the popes in the pizza" bit still cracks me up
Don was a genius...still love his "find the popes in the pizza" bit
Also appreciated his ideas for different cardinals' "campaign buttons" when they were voting for a new pope.
Me too! “Finda da pope in da pizza” 🤣😂🤣
Don’t forget the Fiva Minute University
Hilariously brilliant! Love this guy.

Don Novello, man. He was the original Borat. He was trolling Nixon in writing before they ever let him be on TV.
He is very lovable. Say, does anyone know where to find his monologue where he's talking about dogs and says to a dog gobbling his food "Hey, what's your hurry? Late for a nap?"
... and they call it A Dogs' Life
the coolest priest ever. too bad he never made it to 'monsignor'.
I would join his parish.
HE MADE HIMSELF POPE
😂
@@patriciajones8012 He did indeed. In The People’s Roman Catholic Church! 😂

Don't move, don't breathe, don't do anything except pray maybe.
I could unroadblock that if I had about 200 of these.
BOOM no more chinese laundry.
Vinny: Hey Junior if you are looking for the Pony rides. They're back there!
Blew me right through the front window. I was like a sign from God. I found myself in that boom.
Too bad we don’t have some nitroglycerin,eh,milo?
I also love his Lazlo Letters books.
Since 1975 Fr Sarducci has been my favorite.
Me too!
SNL in its golden age really was hysterical! They nailed everybody, any public figure...I guess the agenda was just to be a great comedy show!
First rule of comedy, there are no holy cows.
This wasn't the golden age this was the early 80s.

"Uppa U S ~ Uppa U S" !
BOOM! No more Chinese laundry.
Great Entertainer-memorable because he is original and hilarious with perfect affectations, and voice, outfit, cig-just brilliant. TS
Those enormous rose-tinted shades were a big part of it, too. His entire look just worked like a machine.
Wow Pedro Pascal is ageless 😂😂😂
No, please.....what, 35 or 40 years ago? Still bombshell lightening hilarious...those were the days for insane good comedy.
Masterful comic.
I forgot how good he was, my favorite cast member ,the good Father "Guido Sarducci".Lmao....
he was sooooooooooooooCOOL
borat < guido
This feels weirdly actual for some reason.
Classic wit. Love his Toth stuff too.
This is the guy from the Atlantis Disney Anime
If the Catholic Church’s theology was even close to Guido’s, I’d consider joining.

The Great One
Did I just notice this or is it common? He never said "Live from New York, It's Saturday Night"!
No, he did not. His 'penance' should be five Hail Mary's and one Rosary.
He's doing the monologue. It's not the Cold Open, where they do say, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
They hated Big R, but he was a GREAT President.
His voice is hands down the best hahaha 🤣 dare I say even sexy
Father Guido foresaw Donald Trump.
Agree with other posters: Coolest priest ever.
As a Canadian in 2023, this is damn funny.
That's my Vinny!
Forgot how smart his humor was...
Look up Don's Burger Inflation video!
The central American threat seems to have come true.
He is from the era when SNL used to be funny. It is eerie to see how accurate his prediction of the world was 40 years ago, even though it was satire.
He understands how history works.
