Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I subscribe to yours. I use a skimmer on one of my tanks when I notice bubbles or film developing. It works great and I only have to run it periodically.
I am getting a film and bubbles on my walstad cube. I am removing it by manually skimming it off every other day, but it's boring. I have dirt substrate with sand cap, so I'm assuming that is why. But I don't have any ammonia, nitrite or nitrate on my readings.
I don't think it has anything to do with having a Walstad style tank. It's more on having little to no surface agitation, which I'm assuming is the case for you, as Walstad style tanks generally don't use any filters. You can try running an air stone, however, this might not be beneficial due to gaseous exchange and CO2 leaving the tank. I made a video about this here: th-cam.com/video/RhjAtNICAjY/w-d-xo.html
@@TropiscapeAquatics I have a nano canister filter, and it's making a little bit of waves. It could also be that I am feeding low grade food. I was feeding my singular fish tubifex in the start and had no film, but after i swapped to flakes, i started getting the film. I may try to swap back to tubifex and see if that helps.
@@SkyfishArt The food could be it. Surface film is a by-product of have high organic content in the water. You could try feeding less and see if it helps.
What perfect timing !! I literally have bubbles in my tank smaller ones and i was worried got notification from you now lmao. Gonna add a skimmer and do water changes asap
Make sure to check ammonia levels as well! Surface skimmers are great, but if your filter outflow is strong enough, it could prevent surface scum from forming

Co2=problem .
CO2 if used wrong = problem. Otherwise, it can do wonders
