Apologies for the long comment ahead, Gavin, but I can't resist when geology and landscape photography collide. I suspect the rock formation you were in is classified as the Windsor Group. This is a 350 million year old formation made up of predominantly gypsum and anhydrite, your pink and bluish gray rocks, respectively. The geological map of Nova Scotia is a great source for seeing its distribution but it basically stretches north from Antigonish county where it's heavily concentrated up through Cape Breton where it's spattered here and there around Bras d'Or Lake and some along the western coast of Cape Breton and even a small spot southeast of Meat Cove. Nova Scotia geologically is split in two by a large fault system that stretches from the Minas Basin/Bay of Fundy across to the Strait of Canso. Nova Scotia is affectively part of the central site where the supercontinent Pangea broke up hence why its inundated with deformed (metamorphosed) rocks like shales and gneiss, or magmatic rocks like granite. Gypsum is a hydrated calcium sulfate hence why it erodes see easily in water. The pinkish gypsum should be softer than the bluish gray anhydrite, but you're right that the fast erosion of either are sure to allow for new and exciting comps to emerge over short amounts of time. Sorry I can't say more without knowing the location. Cheers! Your friendly neighborhood geologist, Thomas!

Hi Gavin - I've enjoyed your videos for several. years now,, learned a lot, and finally, maybe I can help YOU! I am a retired geologist, living in Utah, USA. You were moving your camera around pretty quickly, but I believe the rock type you were asking about is a porphyritic igneous rock that has been metamorphosed into gneiss, a metamorphic rock. The large pink blobs are called "pheocrysts" and appear to be pink feldspar. Hope that helps!

Add avocados, salmon and walnuts to your diet. Instead of mashed potatoes try mixed cauliflower with cream cheese. Low carb high fat worked wonders for me. In one month there should be some results but I would suggest to keep on going. It becomes a life style.

I did keto for at least 4 years. It was brilliant to start with I think I lost a total of 60 pounds. But I slowly started to introduce carbs back into my diet and yup you guessed it right back where I started. I wasn't hardcore keto. I never tested my blood to make sure I was in ketosis (halitosis 😂) nor did I put butter in my coffee. I did eat a lot of meat and a lot of salads and no pizza or bread or pasta for 4 years. Best of luck to you and Amanda with your meat journey! 😏
And as far as the bizarro alien landscape you've found those rock formations are amazing. I look forward to next weeks debacle ... erm I mean ... episode. Lets hope youy get the light and you limit the footprints! 😁

Doing reconnaissance of places one might want to photograph is all well and good as long as you're not flying to far flung destinations and have a limited window of opportunity at every location. I'm headed off on a road trip this summer but flying to my starting location and will end up back where I started. I'm only spending a few days in each town I'm staying in, and I haven't been through this part of the country in almost 5 years. If one is staying relatively close to home and just driving on day trips or a couple days away from home and one does it regularly, then seeing compositions that are great but the weather and lighting conditions are not right and you can come back at a future date, that's great, but not always practical. There's lots of gypsum and anhydrite along the shore of the Bay of Fundy between Wolfville and Maitland on the southern shoreline. Consult the Geological Highway Map of Nova Scotia. Gypsum and anhydrite are often found together, they are different minerals and have different chemical compositions obviously. They are both evaporite deposits, the result of minerals coming out of solution through the evaporation of a land locked marine sea, different deposits of evaporites come out of solution a different times based on the mineral content of the evaporating sea vs. the water content as well as the source material for the minerals in solution of that evaporating marine sea. Anhydrite is a harder rock that gypsum and the gypsum weathers away more easily and the harder anhydrite is left behind. Anydrite has a Moh's hardness scale of 3-3.5, gypsum around 2. Gypsum has more water molecules bound to it's chemical structure. Anhydrite precipitates out of solution later in the process as an evaporite deposite through the evaporation of a land locked marine sea, than does gypsum. Because gypsum is softer due to the trapped water molecules in its crystalline structure it erodes, weathers away more easily. I'd hazard a guess that the cool shapes, the spectacular / unreal rock formations the thin spikey long pieces on the shoreline, are in fact anhydrite and all the gypsum has eroded or weathered away from a larger solid piece. Think of it like butterscotch ripple ice cream, the frozen butterscotch is swirled into all kinds of spindly ornate shapes and the ice cream dissolves away leaving the cool looking butterscotch. Objects in camera are appear larger than they are... be careful what you take photos of Gavin! 😂🤣 If you want to get a geological rock hardness kit and take it with you when you go out where you'll encounter such geological settings you'll at least be able to tell how hard the rocks are. Perhaps going on a field trip with a geologist along various shorelines will help you get a feeling of the different rock formations and their geological history (how they came to be where they are). Did you say "bedtime snacks" or "bedtime sax"? Keep a "stiff" upper lip Gavin, you'll get through these bedtime "snack" episodes.

About the stripes of sensor dust. I have also had that on my A7RIV. I was afraid my sensor was damaged. Turned out it was me not using the sensor cleaning kit well enough. They are residual moisture lines from the sensor cleaning kit. I did it again and finished with a dry lint free sensor cloth on a tiny camera spatula thingy to dry off the last moisture. Sensor is now clean and no dust banding on high fstop.

Really enjoyed this episode. You two are a good double act. I don't know which is the main event, the humour or the top photography advice.
Dust + an A7R IV. I have one and it will suddenly, as if by magic, accrue dust without the need to sand floors or even take it out of my travel storage. I guess it is a special feature.
It doesn't happen with my fuji gear. I guess the seals are tighter on the Fuji.
Anyway, followed you on Twitter. Great images.
I have however posted a cheeky comment under an image taken in Scotland. 🤣
