Those spray cans are awful. You get 2-3 good sprays, then the whole thing gunks up and is useless - even if you shake it upsidedown. This sponge is great!

Just an FYI.... Me and my partner had been using sea sponges that we pinched random spots out of for texture repair since the late 80's... But we did the patch as well as the texture with 10 minute lightweight quickset... Within an hour of starting patches we we're priming them
Thanks for holding the camera over the results of your knockdown. I never seem to find texture sponges when I need them. I’ve had luck ripping chunks out of grout sponges using needle nose pliers. I think the trickiest part of texturing is matching the existing, which is always unique. Feathering is a good tip, thanks. Other variables are size of knockdown, and sometimes direction. In the end one has to play with it.

Works great on small patches. Larger patches, not so much. Leaves a distinct line where edge of the template is. Knockdown texture sponge works so much better. Great idea for small patch.
That Zinsser 123 Primer you mentioned is great stuff. I recently built 2 bedrooms out of a 2 car garage, sprayed texture from a hopper, did a stucco-like knockdown and primed/sealed with the Zinsser 123. Perfect coverage and made painting so much easier and cheaper. Great video, thanks!

Great video huge problem bulding a home having it built and it was painted this week the knock down is alot higher than it was supposed to be and clumps that did not get knock down here and there anything i can do just sand down the big glob or ? Its everywhere. And in the corners its cracking and can see the drywall tape behind the knock down
I do apartment maintenance we use can spray knock down which is expensive..great way to DIY w practice..how long can u have that bucket of AP joint before it dries up?
Punched two holes in my bedroom wall that are side-by-side... saw your patch video and thought it was great. Bigger hole has roughly a 6" diameter, smaller is 4" diameter. Nice stud in between the two, so I'm looking at cutting out a big ass hole about 10" x 9" in size. Lucky the design in this video matches my bedroom walls so I can have a much more accurate way to tackle this project. :P
Now do a whole house! LOL. Dude, I have a 2 story 2000 sq ft house & the knockdown texturing is on every wall & ceiling. Even inside the closets. I'm amazed by the patience it takes to do this. I'm just doing some small patch work with the texture SPRAY & it's making me crazy. Haha...

I have a question! Last year my husband repaired a decent size hole in the wall and added texture (from the can) to match the rest of the wall, but unfortunately it doesn’t match. How do I go about fixing that? Sanding everything back down and redoing it? Or what would you maybe suggest?

I’m a new subscriber. I looked for vids on repairing walls with orange peel, but haven’t found any. I’ve only used spray cans to do the repairs. Did I miss a vid for orange peel repair? Thank you.
Straight from the container for a week defined look. Has a good consistency to hold form when floated. If you thin the mud, the texture will be much more fine but in my experience will need to set longer before being floated.

Hello Paul. Did you thin down the mud in this repair to a pancake batter consistency before you started? If doing a larger area is it best using the 3/4" Knapp roller method?
Hi G man, actually I barely thinned down the joint compound. I wanted it to stay thick, so it would match the existing knockdown texture. For a larger repair I would first use that 3/4" nap roller to get the joint compound on the wall. Then I would use the sponge to match the texture best.👍 I hope this helps. Let me know? I’m hoping you’ll see this comment. I have a section of dry wall that is only 4 inches wide that I need to repair. It is between my pantry door and my kitchen backsplash. How do I get a sponge in that a tiny crack? None of the Lexan tools are small enough.
This looks like an excellent product/tool, one I need to buy and learn how to use it. Over the past 8 years, I've had a number of seems open in my living room ceiling - part of a new addition that was built on to my house back in 2010. Just recently, it happened again, and the contractor made a huge deal about having to repair it, even thought I paid him a lot of money. Obviously, it was not a job he wanted to do. Even after paying a considerable amount of money, the contractor did not do a very good job. Now, I'm out nearly $300, and am still not happy with the repair. Also, do not ever use the spray can texture, as it shows through, and does not blend well after numerous coats of paint.

The spray can is junk I learned that the hard way
The spray cans are really expensive and they use a solvent that will smell up your house for a week. This is much better no VOC.

I spread the joint compound on with a taping knife first to get it level and even than I use the sponge. Great video!

Is this better then using homax spray? I notice the spray with a knockdown leaves like a porous texture behind.

Contractors use a texture spray gun, it’s really fast
