  • Well, I headed to the canal with high hopes of catching some nice perch. With the conditions against me, I decided that the best rig would be the dropshot rig with a luminous micro spikey shad lure. I felt that the lure would have the most chance of standing out in the coloured water, and the dropshot rig would allow me to work the lure slowly at different depths.
    Hope you all enjoy.

Lovely day for it and a beautiful walk if nothing else.

Exactly that! Very lucky to have it so close to us. Cannot beat a stroll along the canal when the sun is shining and the birds are singing, very relaxing 👍

Do you use a fluorocarbon trace?

We do indeed. Unless we are actively targeting pike that is. We are primarily after the perch in the canal but there's always a chance that Mr Pike might turn up.

@@UltralightLads same here, I just use a rod length of fluorocarbon attached to my braid via a double uni knot. I very rarely get bitten off by pike, but if I do I always use barbless or debarbed hooks to give the pike chance to shed the hook. I don't like using wire because it effects the action of some of the micro lures I use

Exactly that Peter. The pike did seem very active on this session but knew I wouldn't be able to fish the rig effectively using wire.
