Note that all the videos I've seen show the removal of the upper plastic shield before proceeding. THIS DOES NOT NEED TO BE DONE ON THE CAR as it will come out with the old filler neck it is attached to and can be more easily done when it is out. It does not block any of the bolts that do need to come out. It is not attached to the car body. Also clean it up and put it on the new neck before installing it too so you can get at that top left screw.
Thank you for posting this video. I am having the same exact problem with my car and when I fill up the tank to full capacity, it leaks gas and it smells pretty strong. I had no idea how to fix it not even what to look for, nor even where to begin. Kudos on doing such a good job and explaining step by step. I'm not too sure I have the same patience as you, but I am going to attempt to fix it myself. Thanks again. Mike Albuquerque. NM
Thanks for the video. I have the same problem my leaks gas like bad. I see a flaw in the system with the dirt build up. The tire is spitting dirt and mud, that elbow corner is completely exposed to the dirt
I was wondering if the code you had was a P0442 and if so did that solve the code issue? I was told a few years ago eventually I should change the filler neck. I just got the code P0442 for a Small Evap Leak recently not thinking of that and changed the Canister Purge Valve Solenoid instead hoping it would solve my issue but after the drive cycle the code came back. Im guessing this is the next route to go so I will be using this video if it solved your code issue. BTW Im not actually leaking any gas though that I know of. Thanks
Went to Wawa to get gas and while pumping feel something dripping on my feet .. oh boy it's the gas tank pipe leaking where the metal guard is and full of dirt..
Hey good video! I'm trying to replace my filler neck on my 2000 eclipse GT. But I'm having problems lining up the top part where the gas nozzle goes in. Any suggestions? I think the hoses are in the way cause I bought some at the garage, they might be too long?? And the rubber and metal hoses aren't flush against the body of the car like yours. were,
On the top part where the gas cap goes check to see if all three points where you put the bolts in are sitting flush with the metal. If the top top one won't sit flush then I would guess the hoses might be too long. If they do sit flush at all three points then you might have to play with it while starting each bolt to line up the holes. It can be a little aggravating, I know mine was lol. Good luck man, hope this helps.
Right cause you wanna connect the hoses first then connect the top of the neck in to where the gas nozzle goes in right? and what me and my dad were doing was connecting the hoses too far away so the fuel neck and hoses werent sitting flush know what I mean? We didn't have the metal pipes go all the way back, we were connecting the hoses to far up cause we had to buy some longer hoses my dad thought. Lol come to find out we didnt need any extra long hoses. We figured out what we did wrong after we called it a night cause it started to rain and we don't have a garage lol but yeah it does seem very tricky lol you gotta get everything just right. And the main filler hose was kinking up cause I think we had the hose too long. And You made it look easy as hell, good job btw lol thanks man!
Cool man glad you got everything figured out. Yeah I've been working on cars for 25 years and do most of the work my vehicles need myself. Glad you liked the video and have fun driving that Eclipse dude. :)
Hey yeah man thanks! Lol we got it all figured, we literally just finished putting everything on now we just gotta get more push pins for the mud flap thing or whatever lol and yeah it's a fun car to drive man! I just got this car last week and it's a GT 5 speed, pretty fun lol
Sorry about the late reply. Not to my knowledge. Dirty fuel or partially clogged fuel filter could cause it to run rough. For misfire check spark plugs, plug wires and coils. An OBD2 scan might narrow down which cylinders are misfiring. That would be where I would start.
I know this is an old video but the bolts holding the shield down are basically rusted and stripped. Pain in the ass and don't know best course of action. Hoping you could help
Yeah unfortunately that is a bad area for rust. If the bolt heads are stripped to the point a socket wont fit anymore you could try turning them with some big vice grips and replace the bolts when you put it back together. If the bolts spin but don't come out then that makes things difficult. Try putting a flathead screwdriver behind the bolt head and shield and pry back a bit while you turn the bolt head with a wrench. The pressure could make the good threads catch so you can finish getting the bolt out and of course replace the bolts with new ones. It's a pain in the ass for sure. I hope this helps and hope you're able to get the bolts out.

Thanks man I have to take the project on tomorrow and I'm very happy that I have a reference to look back on great job.
Cant wait to do this sometime next week
Man I'm glad I found this, I have a 01 spyder and have the same issue. Thanks :)
Thanks for the video! Save me a lot of money!
Glad it helped you out.
Great video! What are the size of the clamps you used on the filler neck?
Thanks for the video. I have the same problem my leaks gas like bad. I see a flaw in the system with the dirt build up. The tire is spitting dirt and mud, that elbow corner is completely exposed to the dirt
Very, very helpful.. Thanks.
Your welcome, glad it helped you. :)
Great video.
Same problem with the protection brace collecting dirt and rocks. Mine was packed solid. Trying JB weld for small holes
Thank you!

You rock awesome 😎 nice 👍
Thanks, glad you liked it.
How the hell did you get it off so easy
did you have to drain the gas tank before you did this
No, the tubes the rubber hoses slide onto enter the gas tank from the top. I did however run the car until it had only a quarter tank just to be safe.
Thanks.
Your welcome.

Im about to do this on my 2003 lancer. Hoping its pretty much the same!
How did it go?

I'm having this problem as well will it cause it to misfires due to improper fuel pressure cause of leaks???
Sorry about the late reply. Not to my knowledge. Dirty fuel or partially clogged fuel filter could cause it to run rough. For misfire check spark plugs, plug wires and coils. An OBD2 scan might narrow down which cylinders are misfiring. That would be where I would start.
I know this is an old video, but I've never put the shield back on these cars. They just hold dirt and salt and will rust the filler neck again.
I know this is an old video but the bolts holding the shield down are basically rusted and stripped. Pain in the ass and don't know best course of action. Hoping you could help

Does anyone know how much it cost to fix these and where I can get the parts?
Sorry about the late reply, I got mine through Auto Zone. They list it for $139.99.
Thank you lol
Whelp, this is EXACTLY what happened to my Eclipse GS.
