I've had the opportunity to play Reverse: 1999 since it's release, and I couldn't get over how amazing the story was in this game. Just with first few chapters alone, it gives so many hints, clues, and foreshadowings about what will occur at the end of the story... But the problem is, it's still hard to see them coming. In this video, I will explain several hints and clues in the main story of Reverse: 1999 that really makes this game a one of a kind.

Another early minor hint in the dialogue about Schneider being a human is after Schneider got shot and Vertin secretly went to give her food, Schneider asked: “What is this you bring to me, my lord?” And Vertin proceeded to tell her that it is a cake left over from dinner. At the time we thought that Schneider was maybe simply too tired and injured to pay much attention to it. But after knowing she’s actually human, she legit don’t know that it was food, and so asked Vertin for confirmation.

I hated her character, her design, her VA. But the story so seamlessly endeared her to me, I didn’t even realize and ch2 finale hit me like a truck. Same thing is happening with Blonney and Horrorpedia in the Greenlake event. The writers are gods. Shut up and take my money.
One thing that caught my attention was Schneider’s sister.
First, she was fed truth serum. Which meant her captors wanted to know something from her.
Second, when she was first rescued, she stated that she will stop pretending to be an arcanist.
Third, Schneider’s weapon was ‘upgraded’ (as opposed to given) by Druvis. This could either mean Manus Vindictae upgraded the pistol which they gave her. Or, Schneider was already in possession of the pistol before working for Forget Me Not.
If we assume for a moment the latter was true, that means there’s another party that has not been introduced yet. The party that gave Schneider her pistol. And Schneider’s sister was being interrogated to find out how Schneider got it.
Both Schneider and her sister were lost to the Storm. But Druvis, having worked for Forget Me Not and ‘upgraded’ Schneider’s pistol, would be privy of the truth.
Druvis possesses significant intel on Manus Vindictae which has yet to be revealed.
Based on the responses the sister gave repeatedly when she was still in trance, about not being a arcanist, and the Schneider name being crossed off earlier in the cutscene between Karlson and forget me not, I believe the question they asked was "are you and your sister Arcanists?", the Manus knowing that then proceed to use Schneider as disposable fodder in the gambit to exchange her for a true arcanist, Vertin. I believe Schneider always had the pistol since she was a young criminal and leader of a gang. She probably lied about being a arcanist after a previous experience with being rejected by the foundation, Druvis were never 100% sure about the arcanist supremacy agenda, so she could have made the pistol into a wand and kept the secret, maybe.
They got me with the Schneider reveal. She's one of my favorite characters here along side Matilda and Sonetto. I wish we can turn back time and return to that era to save her. Assuming we can have Sotheby make a potion that saves non-arcanists from the Storm. Or a potion that can turn someone into half or full arcanist with Druvi's help.

The Vertin Jesus Theory is interesting. Arcana did say “Vertin, the saviour that people follow” and “Thou sacrifice thy body...”
What I'm going to say isn't meant to change the validity of that theory at all and while it's clear that by "Judas", it's referring to Judas Iscariot, I always feel a little conflicted because there was another Judas among the twelve apostles who was a good bean.
I was amazed by the reveal. Schneider being human in the last part, the realization that she'll eventually be also swept by The Storm and not even ready to say goodbye. Her line to Vertin about not forgetting about her sunk a little deeper until the end. I thought we were gonna get her as a playable character in the future, but then that happened😭
She was playable in the beta but removed in official release 😭😭😭

even before this, Schneider ask what Vertin is giving her when Vertin is trying to give her cake. This was the how Schneider was tipped off that something is wrong with the "food" that she's seeing.
i remember that the narrator once said in a chapter '......her biological mother,' stating Ms. Greco which we were told by Schneider that she was adopted. Man how much does the narrator knows😮

Tbh, I feel so burnout with Genshin, then I saw this game ads on YT and X. Never expected the story could be an S tier. Now I fall in love with Vertin. I'm currently on chapter 3. Pushing my character levels' day by day just to see how the next story would unfold. I really hope we can get its anime version by the next year.

What I like the most in this game is that we don't have silly dialogues like genshin. The story feels pretty solid, mature while still holding an awesome gameplay and character building
imo The game itself feels natural because less censorship and less sexualized than other gacha games; swearwords, alcohol, politics might that involving real countries and historicity mixed with some sci-fi background
I was also burnt out of Genshin, switched to Star Rail and now I'm also feeling the burnout from that, too. I think the story in Hoyoverse games is really really slow because of all the fillers. I'm really glad this came out because I love everything about it. The story, the characters, the combat system and it's not that hard and time consuming to do resource farming.

I decided to go back and rewatch the first few chapters and I agree very much with the Jesus-Vertin, there are so many Christianity motifs when you think about it and how they portray her in the story.
In the beginning when she dragged Regulus into her suitcase, she referred it an “ark.” Also don’t you think it’s a bit ironic that they jumped from the 1960s to the 1920s. That’s like 40 years ago-similar to 40 days and 40 nights.
She’s omnipresent, in the sense of she has been through so many time lines, the beginning and end. Like how God is describes as been everywhere and anywhere all at the same time.
As she opened up to regulus about storm, she mentioned all her failed efforts figuring out how to save her friends from the storm. Taking in that into an account, she might have to make an ultimate sacrifice like you said. One that may not be all colorful.
I need more lore on the summoning wheel. It’s odd that it’s two dimensional but what makes me think is that how it grabs or summon people from different timelines. The water around is described as water or the storm, im kinda analyzing that as the calm of the storm. Does that mean the people we summon are dead? But it doesn’t make sense because sonetto is alive? Idk. It does interest me tho, and it honestly reminds me of the sundial from genshin, the fact that they both utilize time motifs but one with air and one that flows like water.
Also I have a couple more questions. Is the same fog that surrounds the summoning wheel in question that made Regulus and Sonetto black out, the same one Forget me not or his caster was using to interfere with the gang progress of reaching Vertin?
Guys why was a scent of oranges from a mission given by the foundation to sonetto. Something is indeed fishy 😭
The summoning wheel is in fact a spinning wheel for spinning thread or yarn. In mythology we have these figures called Moirai or The Fates who spins the thread of life and fate of mankind. Though to be fair it's not limited to the Moirai, as many cultures seems to like to make connections between spinning threads and the concept of fate. But back to the Moirai, they spin the thread to decide the fate of individuals, from when they were born to their death. One story even tells that they have the ability and authority to resurrect dead people.
So it might be the game saying that the spinning wheel on the lake is influencing the very thread of fate of individuals and pulling them to Vertin's suitcase. And as you said, the game roster is full of people that came from different time periods, so it's implying that the spinning wheel can pull people who are long dead or maybe even those who are erased by the Storm (Schneider copium?). We also shouldn't ignore the fact that the game explicitly mentioned that the lake water is water from the Storm.
But this is deep into headcanon territory, I'm hoping that the game will expand on this since the spinning wheel is presented as part of the universe and isn't just a game mechanic.

oh yeah, apparently, you can find Schneider's outfit in the "lobby menu" if you look at the left bottom, there's her folded dress with something that is glowing.

One thing worth considering is that this game is heavy on the idea of esoteric and the occult,
In fact at one point (I think during flashback in chapter 3) there is a professor that state that
"Arcanist, as a creature of feeling and passion value higher knowledge obtain through flash of intuition or 'Gnosis' rather than rationality and reason of science."
And in many Gnostic Christian tradition Judas is not a betrayer but rather he's the only one true disciple of Jesus.
...And when I think about it, according to these Gnostic lore Judas is the only one among the disciple who truly understand the teaching of Jesus and capable of seeing through the lie of the material world we lived in
(that it's a lie and a prison)
So when Vertin was imprisoned in the simulation world of Artificial Somnambulism it WAS Schneider's voice that call to her ('Remember me, My Lord', 'Can you hear my heart beat, on the right').
Narrator also does give some light on things early on, like when they mentioned Schneider is indeed a biological daughter of the Greco even though Forget Me Not mentioned she was adopted into the family, explains why Schneider's name was crossed off on Forget Me Not's list since he probably learned the truth from Marian with the truth serum.
yeah there are a lot of details hidden in the story! 2 parts I noticed after reading the 2nd time is that young schneider hesitated to answer when Vertin asks whether she is an arcanist + when Vertin passes Schneider some cake after finding her, Schneider asks Vertin what she is giving her (and she ate it without hesitation after hearing its cake 😢) Also spoilers for ver 1.1：

when I saw Sotheby become a coat rock in chapter 4 (spoilers warning) for those who not play the game yet that is complete reference to a game call gmod prop hunt which is you can become a object or a thing and hide from the hunter who try to kill you and you can hide from the hunter or act like object to trick the hunter I don't play the gmod prop hunt but I watch video about it is pretty fun.
Hands down the best gacha story line I've ever seen. I really hope this game does well long term it deserves it.
Reverse: 1999 so far in my opinion is truly a unique game with it mind-blowing story that we have chance to play FREE in recent years, love this game and I hope you guys enjoy the game too

not seeing at the character list available for gacha pull before finishing chapter 2 was the best decision. Realizing Schneider isn't even on the list really breaks my heart
I had the feeling that schneider was human when she talked about how she already went to st pavlov foundation for help but ended up going to manus vindictae instead because manus vindictae had a solution to not let humans get swept in the storm.
Schneider truth was also hinted by the fact that her wish is to not forget her
What I am curious about is how Arcana says that Druvis improved it, because if you pay attention to Schneider's design and her pistol-
-Scheiner is wearing a coat with snake motifs, both with a metal snake coiling around one of the sleeves and with the inside turquoise (along with the coat being too big for her) implies the coat originally belonged to *Forget-Me-Not* , who has the snake/viper motif as well as the scales you can see hidden on his body are greyish turquoise.
-The gun seems to have also a scale motif, so perhaps it was originally made by Forget Me Not as well (check on 4:21) or made with his magic.
This is...interesting because that had to mean that Forget-Me-Not should have an idea then, so he was, as expected, just toying with her when he 'accidentally' slipped on by revealing he knew Marian was the one being kidnapped and, seeing later that they used the truth serum on her, were trying to get her to confess if Scheinder was also faking being an Arcanist to have more evidence- or just to keep Scheinder in line for a while longer. We do later see this when they show the hand-hat thingie, promising humans salvation this way, that the Manus WILL use humans as meat shields for their endeavors.
Also, bonus: By the end of Chapter 2, we know of three Arcanists from 1920; Sotheby, a gifted alchemist and an Arcanist who came from England (Karson says her parents approved from London the idea of her visiting the Walden), Druvis III Weyerhäuser, a super-powerful Arcanist who came from a family of Irish immigrants and had her whole state burned down in a freak accident that she was blamed for, and Forget-Me-Not, who certain hints from the chapter imply may be related to Henry Cavendish, the British scientist who discovered the "inflammable air" (Hydrogen, which actually *matches in description to what Forget-Me-Not serves his clientele and is know to be highly combustible* ) who suffered much like Druvis and lost everything, yet was found by Arcana at the very edge of his life, and was "swallowed and spit out" as the spiteful man that he is today, literally unable to move from that day in Rainier, amongst the forget-me-not flowers.
And APPLe impliest that Arcanists from European lineages are the strongest amongst Arcanists.
jeez reverse 1999 story is just so detailed bro. Its so detailed that youd have to reread it multiple times to understand everything
The problem with the whole teleport disk idea is that we haven't actually seen anyone who was not a confirmed arcanist use an arcane medium like that. Looking back at the prologue, first is Sonetto, the second Arcanist character you even get access to. Vertin, who is confirmed to be an Arcanist (albeit not a very good one), is the second person to use the disk. Then Regulus, who is a decently skilled arcanist. None of these characters are regular humans, they all have access to arcane skills of their own.
The foundation states in 3RD-01 that the equipment and training they give their students is meant to make their otherwise unpredictable magic more stable. Simplifying the incomprehensible complexity of the Arcanum and Gnosis into a few, easy to recite incantations. The Floppy disk could just be another example of this. A simple, pre-prepared spell that works the same for everyone.

This made me think and now I have my own theory!
In this scene 0:48 Forget Me Not didn't actually kill the reporters or any humans, he was just clapping because the Storm was happening and so everybody exploded, he knew this would happen since he has been in many storms before: He was a powerful enemy but making people "spontaneously combust" wasn't really his ability in the battle.
What happened was that since they were in 1920, time moved backwards to 1918
That is a good theory, unlike the one discussed on the video. He just told the obvious things.

I thought I was the only one that was really suspicious of Karson and then they pulled the whole to be continued like jojo bizarre adventure at the very cliffhanging cuts. That said please do more of these, i really crave digestible pieces of lore and I try to make sense of it myself but I’m always thrown into a loop of having a lot of questions.
So far I feel like the story is very grey and it makes the player distrust everyone and everything that comes their way. Manus Vindictae was already bad but now the foundation too.

I also find it odd that X mentions how the storm is basically a butterfly wing flap or something similar to that variant. So is the storm similar to the butterfly effect? I wonder the more people find out about the storm, that change accelerates it? Idk lol.
that butterfly flap thing is basically pointing towards the end of the story. yes it's pointing out to the butterfly effect. the final destination of the story is probably the event that started the whole storm thing, a long long time ago.
one thing im curious about if you can answer it within the lore context, is what's the the different between an artifact and a medium? for example, the character a knight (a sword) is stated as an artifact within their character profile, that have arcane powers. This is also apparent for other character such as chair, door. is it possible then, that an item, aside from being able to be infused with arcane capability, can eventually develop some conciousness that allows them to act as a proxy AI arcanist kind of thing?
also, we are still in 1900 at this point, but i cant wait until we get into AD 800 ish, where we eventually get how vertin is connected to a knight haha

With that idea, and we know the whole lore building they do at chapter 3, this means the game takes the more gnostic, non canon Christianity (just like Genshin, and a lot other Chinese gacha games lol). In that the idea of of Schneider here being the one who truly has to be sacrificed, to be forever denied of the "salvation" Vertin could offer, is akin to the depiction of Judas from the Gospel of Judas (ye, church hates that one).
It makes me think how much gnostic and non canon Christian twists they might be doing with the whole idea of Vertin being Jesus who is saving arcanists from being punished of their "sins".
This game deserves to have a tv show adaptation.
Chapter 3 - 16 is chef's kiss the best chapter.

Schneider for a lot of us new players from the world release were very shocked by her reveal. Although she already had big death flags above her head, I was hoping that it was all plays to add suspense until the end. Such as, her being shot in the chest.
I hear from some that the story doesn't make sense or is not at all there because of "Poor translation" and I agree there are some bad translations, but there is a story. Better translation and line delivery would be nice since APPle does sound like a voice sample sometimes, but the game overall is amazing. Hopefully more stamina as you level more or overcharge meter like in Star rail... I want to be able to farm a lot more for my favs and keep going in the story with them...

Also the the part where Arcana hands Vertin an orange when she was ordered to kill Schneider (who was Italian), I thought that was a The Godfather reference since oranges in those movies are considered an omen of death.
Another detail hinting Schneider being a human: when Vertin gave her some cake she stole to Schneider, who pretended to be dead, Schneider asked “what’s this,” meaning she already couldn’t tell what Vertin gave but still swallowed inedible trash bc of how much she trusted Vertin.
Reverse 1999 is my absolute favourite blend, because I love history and the style of game + the absolutely beautiful art and music

Hey!! This is such a great video! I just have one more thing to add onto this lore and theory that is in, but are not limited to, chapter 1 and 2: The Book Titles, and the descriptions of each character. First of all, as you probably have noticed, each chapter resembles a title of a famous book or shortstory from that era. Personally, I have not read all of them so I am not sure if this has any association with a hidden line inside the plot. Moreover, notice how most of your characters (despite being called Arcanest) are called "crew", which reminds me of acting... So is all of this story just an act? In a person's dream?? One other important details is the fact that these "crews" are essencially artworks. Look into each character's description!! Takme Sotheby for instance. "An arcanist's work. Exhibited in the..." So are they alive? Or are they just artworks with super powers (Arknight theory)??? This question comes again when you go to the lobby., There is a rare chance that the character is not presented in front of you, but rather in the small frame on the bottom middle ro right side of the lobby. You can't interact with the character (Clicking etc.) and you have to go to other places to refresh the lobby for them to come back again. Does this mean that they were truely just an artwork of some Arcanist and that all this things happened were just a dream?

I love your thought process, but judging from what the plot had said I am not sure if all of the dialogues between Vertin and ??? because the unknown voice seemed to be a guide throughout the whole journey as Vertin regards her team putting effort trying to save her. More than a reminiscence, the unknown voice seemed rather like a third eye that reads the mind of Vertin, as if it was an inner self, and analyze details that Vertin regarded as trivial. However, it is note worthy that IslandXD has got the part about Schneider accurately before chapter 4. Indeed, Schneider is no arcanist, and her weapon is enhanced by arcane power which is how she managed to trick erveryone into believing her as an arcanist. About your analysis on the dioramas, it is quite interesting and I haven't really been thinking through that path yet. A subtle clue that supports your analysis is if you play the "Artificial Somnambulism" ORD-5 (Weyerhaeuser Forest). The dream without a doubt was about Regulus and she informed us, in the dream, to collect souls which would become Vinyls for her music. I wonder if this would have something to do with the potential finality of these characters. Will they all get inevitably washed away by the "Storm" ?

I'm so invested to this game lore. This is my 2nd time being invested to lore after Ateez (kpop group) story lore. Both has really enjoyable story lore to follow. Btw thank you for this cool explanation videos!
So Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 should be Vertins death as Jesus and the passing of the bill in that chapter is Vertins revival and now she can lead the other arcanists into the promised land. After all her entombment in the sleep machine was to a degree Schneiders fault after her betrayal of turning out to be human. Thus that would be her cross and trial from the government. Now are we likely to get this again yeah but it’s interesting that you can make it sound like it has already happened.

it's more like the disk is the metaphorical gun and the engraving is the metaphorical bullet. can't shoot without the bullets.
so unless Manus Vindictae can create a self-sustaining engraving (which if true, is a troubling news), i don't think that's the case.
eh, if it's true we should get some info from Druvis in the future. should help the fight against Manus Vindictae.

Well, thank you for explaining the relation between the Storm and the times it occurs in. I know little about the 20th-century, so the symbolism flies over my head, especially with how bad the translation is and how weird the wording is. I feel like half the time I space out while going through the story because almost nothing makes sense immediately. Also, I'm not passionate enough about the game to replay the story or just reread what's being described and said while going through the chapters. I'm glad you are.

Since the title is reverse 1999, I'd imagine the Storm of 1999 will be about the Y2K incident, lol. It's a thematic fit as well, since that averted disaster dealt with the clocks of computers

I think another possibility as to how Schneider is able to use arcane skills comes from how she was able to stay alive from the gunshot to the chest. In the story, she literally specified that she had to be shot in the left side. Then during her final moments, she specifies to Vertin to remember the sound of her right heart (or right chest, i don't remember exact details, but I know it had something to do with the right side of her chest). So this could essentially mean that the heart of an arcanist or at the very least, something acted as a "core" that enabled her to use arcane skills, which would be further amplified through the "wand," the pistol.
When Schneider first appeared, i thought "Ok this is kuso gakki Syuen in Nikke right?".
Then at the end, "Forget me not/Remember me."

The Voice acting is FAKING AMAZING.
English is not my original language. I believe my English level is not exelent but good. So it's enough to understend most of the game. But there are still such things, that I miss. For example I don't really anderstand the scene with Shneider's gun exept of part that Druvis is a wandmaker. By the way, I also missed the role of wands in the story. But now with this video I understand that it could be a missing part. So I really thankful for that :)
This game has some deep plot

Also, description of psychubes shows lore of the character. For example, APPLe's psuchube directly reffers to Newton's "apple accident", so i think that he's, maybe, an embodiment of Him for this game.
Some characters in the game are also complete fictional. Like Nick Bottom (Shakespeare's Midsummer Night Dream play) and Mondlich (obviously, Little Red Cap reference). Not everything in the game is taken from history, and i think it's amazing.

Another MASSIVE clue that Schneider was human is that we couldn’t pull on her. All characters you can pull in the gacha are arcanist. Even Druvis being a pullable character hinted at her being a good character. But you can’t pull humans, you can’t pull Schneider. When I realized this, my brain exploded.

I was done chapter 3 and this is nice detail! I hope we gonna go in 1888s which means we can meet jack the ripper!
The fact that Druvis made Schneider's gun is why she is able to use Arcane Magic, whats more painful about that is hen Vertin Hallucinated and used that very Gun to shoot Schneider
i still have a lot of questions of how the "storm" works. Is the "strom" reveresing time all over the world or just certain area on its range? does physical object get reversed too? except all the things inside the foundation buildings of course. Are the human and arcanist that got caught in the strom simply perished or just reverse? How about the remaining population that one way or another survived? how does the world still fully functioning after much of their population perished by the storm?
This is the 3rd sponsored video for this game I've seen and it's the only one where the creator sounds like they genuinely enjoyed the game.
The other 2 felt like they only played the prologue then hastily made a video without any depth of effort.
God please no , i cant stand seeing vertin being somehow Sacrificed for Humanity sake , maybe it is just me loving her too much as a Character , but she is too precious also , to be the Sacrificial Doll for humanity sake.

i love the final sacrifice theory, she might just have the same thing happen to her mom and disappear, and then reunite with her mom similar to jesus being with god
