    School's approach to learning is always very disheartening. After entering my 20s, I begun re-learning all of my countrys history, European history, world history - I could not get enough, because when you learn it yourself - you focus on the *events* - the *stories* told, not the stupid dates!

    • @Fergus_0703
      @Fergus_0703 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It’s the same with my country. We mostly focused on dates instead of the details and most of my teachers look like they’re not even interested in it. I even corrected some my teachers many times because they get the history wrong. That’s why I love it when our class talks about history in the room because that’s where I shine and feel good about myself even if it’s at least just an hour.

      That was discussed in one of my degree classes, the shift from didactic lecture learning to self paced learning. The negative part is that students end up being all over the map and th as t may make things harder on the teacher. Relearning content is very common in college.

    • @zegh8578
      @zegh8578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gdiaz8827 Good point about all the students being at different levels, if learning from their own pace. This is not a hinder though, but definitely a complication, which expands the problem of education, and asks us about the nature of curriculum, classes etc.
      Whenever I practically think of education, especially the primary/secondary set, I always come to the conclusion that it needs a complete revamping - but also that such a revamping would probably be prohibitively expensive (LOTS of individual focus on different students), at least in the kind of commercially focused society we inhabit for now.

      Exactly my issue with school history.
      Also, it tends to be a bit over-simplified itself - these videos are actually less over-simplified than what I learned in school!
      Furthermore, it tends to contain quite a bit of propaganda, at least when it comes to national history.
      I learned more and better history from books and youtube documentaries...

      @@gratius1394 Its also a cheaper substitute because sugar cane isnt exactly the cheapest crop to grow and process. Not as cheap and plentiful as Beets are anyways. Idk if this is the case in other countries but in the USA you have to check to make sure the granulated sugar you buy is marked CANE SUGAR. You caught the idea of humour and other entertainment making things more memorable perfectly.
    The way in which we are taught history in school is terrible, but many credit bands such as Iron Maiden and more recently Sabaton with getting them good grades.
    Videos like this could go a long way in making history more popular in schools if presented to students, just as they have triggered huge interest in history in this online form.

    I had a course in high school here in America on Russian history (it was an elective/optional course) but I really enjoyed learning about it even though it was written by Western scholars so I can only assume there was some bias in how it was presented. But this series on Oversimplified reminded me of what we learned in that class and was very entertaining to watch with you!

    Just a kind piece of advice. Try to fill the empty space around you in order to reduce the 'echo' happening in the background. Additional furniture, or some pictures/paintings on the wall. Highly suggest avoid using "personal pictures" as much as possible. Don't want too much personal information on full display when using the internet. Might not hurt to have a thick blanket hanging behind you somehow.
    Just something to fill in the "empty space" is all you need, nothing fancy. And you will be surprised how much a simple hanging blanket can reduce 'echo effect' from happening.

    What you've just view is one of the most unbiased, historically accurate versions of history ... things I have ever seen. Among all studies of the history of Russia from the Rurik dynasty to the modern era, there is perhaps not a single material evidence refuting at least one thesis of this video or not mentioning any facts, to give other point of view more weight (that the Red Terror was a response reaction to unmentioned White doesn't count. I said) Everyone on this channel now has plus 100 intelligence to the previous number. I award us no points of knowledge, and may God have mercy on our souls.
