The original mono 1966 release of The Rolling Stones massive planetary number one hit "Paint It, Black" was full of energy and excitement. When the stereo version was finally released, it lacked the energy and punch of the mono due to application of an excessive amount of reverb. I have tried to correct that in this mono to TRUE Stereo remix. Also, for a new touch, I unlocked Keith Richards' harmony vocal and separated it from Mick Jagger's lead vocal by moving it to the right channel. The drums and bass remain in the center channel for energy and punch. No pseudo acoustics were used as this would drain this great song of energy and presence. It is strictly an isolation de-mixing of the vocals and instruments and a remixing of those elements incorporating a mixing style common to the era in which it was recorded. Thanks for listening!
One cannot comprehend the fact the Rolling Stones are still playing live and recording albums......amazing.
They certainly are still playing but to say they are recording albums is awfully generous. The RS machine is crudely pasting together some pretty sad records, and they are anything but amazing.
It does no one any good to lionize their every effort because of the name. Someone is at the controls of 2024 Rolling Stones but they’re making a mess of it. They are becoming the octogenarian industry joke rather than the surprise. It does not have to be this way. I’m a real fan and I find this very sad.
What a rhythm section Bill and Charlie were.
Your remix is fantastic.
Thanks!
Thank you!
A song that I've known for years, which I've now heard in a new and magical form! As though I'd heard it for the fist time. Five stars!
That's great! Thank you very much! I'm glad you're listening!
I still have the mono single from 1966, to hear all the details is a gas!!
Great! Thanks for the comment and thanks for listening!
Nice mix! Well done.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for listening!
Love the way you remixed the mono recording of this song. Also a big like to the video you put together. Thanks and have a great Sunday! 💯👍🎧
Thank you for your kind comments. They are greatly appreciated! It actually takes longer to produce the accompanying videos as I have no background in this. But, out of respect to these great songs, I believe they deserve more than a label, or thrown together unrelated photos of the artist to view while listening. So, I do indeed struggle with the video which makes your comment welcome and special to me. Thanks again, and thanks for listening (and watching!).
Another nice job! I usually take the Stones in mono so this gives some new dimension
Thank you! Yes, the mono versions of the Stones' recordings are much more powerful. Thanks for listening!
I saw The Stones perform this live in 1966; my older brother was with me at the time. 26 years later, my older brother (now posthumous), and his Gibson acoustic guitar, found themselves at Keith Richards' front door(they were invited by him).. He may have changed it since then (1992), but, if I remember correctly, at the time it was painted red. My now late older brother performed live with both Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards (and a host of other people). Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards both wrote songs about the same woman. Jimi's was called "Red House (over yonder)"; Keith's was "Ruby Tuesday". Her name was Linda Keith. I wonder if she's still alive?
You did an excellent job. The original stereo mix was super weak. This mix rocks!
Thank you! I'm glad you like it!
Very, very good mix, man. So cool!
Thank you!
This is where the transformation started of the Stones darker sound ....
Great remix! I would have loved one which separated the acoustic guitar and the sitar.
Thanks!
Have you seen the video with Vietnam war????Absolutely Amazing!
No, but I will check it out. Thanks!
The undisputed fact about the Rolling Stones is they know how to write hit pop rock songs decade after decade.....
Thank God Brian Jones was there for this ...
“Excess” is of course subjective and I can honestly say I miss it. The choruses were identified by that reverb and that whole brilliant production idea is just thrown away here. In the outro, a hint of it is heard on a number of short ad-libs and it’s thrilling. Not every production idea of the 1960s is unfortunate. Many of them are signature, and beautifully done.

Sorry, do you have a flac file? Thanks
No, I'm sorry I don't.
Unfortunately this one lacks the punch of the decca release and the beating rhythm as the right and left Chanel keep in time, which I prefer. Here is the decca to compare. I absolutely love your mixes but this one falls short imo.

+ the missing «drama»
The original stereo mix had more drama. This one is a bit «dry» and tame
