In Sydney we only have ANL and CLEANAWAY services Green bins from councils.
We just started green bin services in Fairfield City Council area, it does go to Cleanaway whom won the contract.
This is the First year our Bin Services will actually decrease in our council rates as many councils have increased Garbage Collection on there rates for Year 2024-2025.
Year 2023-2024 was approximately $515 just for Garbage services that’s nearly $10 Week, tipping fees are over $500 tonne to tip into land fill, so taking FOGO WASTE (Green Bin) out of landfills is a savings any council would need to consider reducing waste to landfills.
In the paste some Sydney Councils gave out Recycling Bins and accessories to its residents to reduce waste in the form of recycling green waste, to reduce tipping costs.

Some great points there Rick. It would be different of course for many councils. But I heard from a local Mayor herself in the next 5 to ten years all councils are removing green waste..But we will see. Either way the opportunity is ripe for the picking now!

I'm actually really surprised they're only accepting now that the green recycling program on the whole in large areas is never going to work.

Yes, because they always sub contract it out. Maybe they should do it internally and keep the profits, create jobs, scale and share all the data to improve it over time. It's right under their noses!

I tried to collect food waste but it's difficult because they have to separate food from trash and then need a way to keep it but with food rules they can't really keep it in a convenient spot. Do you have any recommendations for that?

Yes, just collect one source if you can. Example: In the Philippines they use Banana's every part, fruit, leaves and stems. Greengrocers are a great start if your in the city or urban areas.

Great to hear about the opportunity came about to speak at a Council Conference, Councils as other businesses need to spend certain amounts on educational aids each year.
This would be a good opportunity to have increased your exposure to the community at large also most importantly other Councils and organisations in the gardening industry.
I’d reconsider especially if you’d be asked to do educational talks at other councils or gardening base organisations even schools.
This could open new doors.
