I love the way the boys sat and played in the big rolled up drain pipes, watching their dad, and talking to him, then getting their shovels and helping, with their bare feet (reminds me of when we were kids, playing and running all over the place barefooted), what leather soles we had. Today can not walk on tar roads with out having shoes on ha ha. Then they still carried on after dinner, I love their miners lights. You are a lovely family, keep up the good work, have a great day and a well earned sleep after all that work.
You wouldn't have the father and son time like you did if you had a trencher. You have some great boys I'm sure you are super proud of them. Loved the post by your son the other day he done a great job and was excited about planting. So good to see they say our kids copy what they see great job Dad and Mom love to see kids being raised this way. God bless you and your family
Hi..... Ben and Meg nice to see you both and your daughter to, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🐔🐓🐥👕🐖🌱🎥👍👍👍
I know exactly how hard that is. My husband and I put in a French drain from the backyard to the road (about 50 feet). He had a bad heart so I got to do all the digging. Put plastic down, then rocks, then pie, then rocks and wrapped the plastic over. Filled the top with dirt and done! It worked great. Love seeing the boys help. I can just hear the end of the day "Come on Dad, it'll be cooler and think about how you'll feel had vying it all done and not having to think about getting back out there again." Gotta love those boys!
Man... I love your boys so sensitive to what tool you need next and always ready to help. What great individuals you are rearing..blessings. Keep it up 👏👏👏👏❤❤
Meg, Your pride in your husband and your boys radiates in your smile and your eyes. The whole time I watched he worked so hard and so did a couple of your boys but mainly dad. My husband of fifty years past a few days now who will be 70 very shortly just blows me away in that department. Those skills your boys are also learning is invaluable. I found that when we moved away from out childhood home, families and childhood friends we really became the family that we always wanted to be.. In our case we needed it to be grown up in the ways that we needed to be.
You impress me so much with your endurance, but your boys are a testament to the modern homesteading generation. They are turning into wonderful helpful, conscientious men
There is nothing so good as doing a long, hard, heavy day of work, sitting down to a nice meal, standing under a cool shower then collapsing into a comfy bed. Bliss!
Hey Ben, my husband likes your idea of the 5 gallon bucket instead of the box. We have an area where we need to move water, and your idea will be used...thanks! Great job y'all!
Sandy Oklahomatransient just make the hole in the bucket on the bottom side so no water just sits in the bottom like he did. He left about 3” for water to just be trapped!! That makes a great place for mosquitoes to raise and not much you can do about it afterwards.
Lots of people would have just complained a lot about the muddy patch, but you're investing in your long term life, and doing it RIGHT! Your boys are just awesome, and as has been said, they are learning all the time skills for the rest of their lives.
Ahh that last part where the boys wanted to work to get the job done. It really shows family pride & unity already instilled in their little bodies. Too sweet, great job kiddos
You have some hard working little helpers. It’s so good for them to learn how to do hard work. Kids these days don’t know that. I love your little family! ❤️
Good evening beautiful people. I knew your boys were Not going to sit and watch their father tolling away without giving him some help. Great memory day. They will remember this day for the rest of their lives. Good men in making. Smart problem solution dad.
That's a good boy to jump in there and help out. I'm an acts of service guy so when my kids help me out on our homestead it screams to me, "I love you dad."
Meg, y'all definitely should be proud of your boys. Their helpfulness and wonderful behavior didn't just happen. Your hard work as parents is really showing!
You and your boys are amazing !!! (You are too Meg 😁) Make my heart feel good watching the kids being so involved in making the homestead. Reminds me of my siblings and myself when we were young and our folks bought our place in the country. We couldn't wait to jump off that school bus and get as much work done as we could before mom and dad got home from work. They were always amazed at how much we could do. We had waited along time...at least in kid time...to get this country home.
Finnish it off with a pallet to stand on. Slows the sinking when it’s displaced...come rainy season you’ll have a dry spot to stand. Oh... I had to edit this to add great job, those young assistants were an invaluable asset. God Bless
I'm going back and watching your old videos. And I love seeing the progression of your build, your young boys, and your family relationship. This video has me tearing up at Ben teaching the boys how to work and accomplish such needful and satisfying jobs. Thanks Ben for your care for your family.
This winter when it's cold and wet and nasty those boys are going to be so proud that they made that area dry and much easier to work around! Dad is going to appreciate the work he did too. Good job guys!!!
We so enjoy your videos and are living vicariously through you. We are way too old to do what you are doing, but at one point we sold a lot of what we had, including a house, and stored the rest and took off in a motor home, just the two of us. We lived in the motor home 4 months before renting a house. My husband's job was killing him. We eventually ended up in Jacksonville, FL. Anyway, we look for your videos every day because we so enjoy seeing what you are doing and seeing the love you two have for each other and what your are doing to rebuild a marriage. And your boys are so good. God definitely had (has) a plan for you and has blessed you. Don't give up. Keep relying on Him.
I love this clip because it is a true example of all of you working at a common goal... Unity within a family goes far beyond any expectations for tasks getting 'done'.
So good to see fathers teaching their boys how to work and enjoying time together. So thoughtful that they wanted to continue after dark making some great memories. I loved this video!!
It is so hard to stop when there is more to be done. I do the same. Now I cook supper early in the day, throw it in the oven, and go back to my garden and yard work in the cooler of the evening. Great boys you have. And papa too. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
You have kids to be proud of. Your family is definitely one to be proud of, the love and respect you all show for each other is a beautiful thing to see. Teaching your sons a hard work ethic at a young age is fantastic. What a blessing you are to the You Tube community. Thank you for allowing us into your beautiful life.
God bless the hard working man who is living an example to his boys. This is the legacy that should be left to each generation: Hard work pays off and helps you sleep good 💗 love and prayers.............Patti
Such a hard working family and kids that have a good work ethic! It might have only been one project, but y'all worked together and got it done together! Great job guys!
Dad and the boys made it happen! It took all day but you guys dug a lifelong trench of memories today. The boys enjoyed so much they even worked at it in the dark! Great job! You probably should put some type of screening at the end of the drainpipe to keep dirt and critters out :)
I would call this a very successful "Unschooling" homeschool day. Look at all of the physics, math, physical education, and team building skills they are learning! Can you tell that I am a unschooling homeschool mom? Ben, way to go on the Best Dad meter!
Your boys are extraordinary. They are lively and energetic, yet also know when to be politely quiet. I think you've done an amazing job of parenting and would love to hear more about how you balance parenting, work, play, and instilling values.
I love how the boys are watching you dig out the drain. I appreciate your parenting style and that you don't force the boys to work. I understand that they would have their share of jobs to do, but it doesn't feel like we are watching forced labor. It's nice to see.
Ben, you are brilliant, again, we need you cloned millions of times! Great to have your very clever children involved. YT is losing big time by their bigoted behaviour! Glad you saw through what it was. You're a brilliant family!!!

Holy cow! I'm exhausted just from watching this! Nice work Hollar men! Thanks for showing how to do a drain like this Ben. I'm filing that away in my memory and homestead notes for future reference in case I ever need a drain. I'll also be adding a pick axe to my list of necessary homestead tools. I hadn't thought about needing one of those but I can see how it could be very valuable. That's some serious clay you have on the property. You guys weren't kidding! On the bright side, you have a great gravel base on your road! Nice to see kids working and not playing with their phones and real nice to have a full crew! Keep up the good work Hollars!
Hard work does not hurt anyone. Well done and very proud of your kids. I said to my wife I love to see how you involve your kids, teaching them a good work ethic.
Great job. I had a neighbor once. Older gentleman. His Name was Cliff Swann. He said he tried to accomplish just one thing everyday. So at the end of the year he had accomplished 365 things. You made me think of him. Thank you. And you boys are awesome!!

So please keep filming if for no one else but yourselves and me❤️
That was a lot of hard work. The boys did great job. Last spring I got an estimate for 60 feet of drainage and it was $2800. I’ve lived with muddy flower beds in spring for 20 years. Can live with it longer. Keep up great work. Great inspiration.
wow those young men of yours sure are HARD WORKERS.. Just like their mom and dad.. You and Ben are AMAZING parents.. Your boys are so well behaved.. I NEVER hear them complain or talk back to you guys .. This really does my heart good to see such well behaved children.. Great job on the drainage system there also.. May God continue to bless and keep you all.. When you all are finished with getting everything done, your property and home are gonna be BEAUTIFUL. God bless..
Never let it be said that the Hollars are afraid of hard work!! You guys are amazing....Ben you are such a great role-model for your family....such a great job😘!
That's hard work for sure. The boys just working and learning skills. More lessons than folks think when kids are homeschooled. Pretty amazing to see them not give up. Good job Ben & Meg..❤
Needed me a little Hollars tonight! Spent the day with my 92 year old grandparents and our family pressing apple cider. We never know when it might be the last time with them. So although I’m exhausted, I’m trying to fully appreciate the time we have and handle all the emotions. I imagine when they were younger, they were out doing all the things, just like you guys! And my grandmother was the crazy chicken lady, just like Meg! So many good memories.... (PS I need some 🐓. Goals)
Wow, you’re not going to be able to eat out of bed in the morning! What a tough job. So nice to see your boys helping you, they’re very special young men.
My oldest and I love digging, compost, trenches, beds....the repetitive task calms him on rough days. I have a special place in my heart for a spade. He no longer has plastic ones, he's upgraded to the real thing.
Ben, you are a digging machine. Who needs a trencher when they have you lol. I love that you are teaching the boys how to do all the things. Best classroom there is. Big hugs.
...as it often does with you folks...a "simple" job turns into both bonding time and a teaching/learning experience for you AND the boys. ..well done ben ☮️&🌱's
Wow so much digging and picking. Wonderful the boys pitched in to help dad out. Great family and the boys are learning so much without always realizing it.
That is a lot of work!! Digging red clay is one thing, but no comparison to digging compacted gravel. You're a better man than I am, Ben, I would have given up, bit the bullet, and rented a trencher anyway. Kudos to sticking with it to get it done.
I think all boys are born with type of magnet for dirt, water and mud. They play so hard. My son would fall asleep in his dinner from plating so hard. When he got to big for me to move him I made a bed on the floor for him. He actually like it. Strange but I love him. He's 34 now and still remembers it.
Brought back memories of working with my dad. Digging a sewage line ditch for a new bathroom. I was about the same age as your oldest. I still, to this day, make sure a ditch has square corners and the correct drop. Good job.
Oh Meg I felt that Momma pride at the end. It reminds me of a few projects my kids and I did with the Living room lamp lighting our project (a dog run that I waaaay underestimated, so I feel you too Ben, and a couple of decks including a hail mary pool deck before a big pig roast party lol). I loved working with my kids!
Oh I wished I had something like that, a weed eater with the tiller. What a blessing. I'm doing everything old school and it seems like it takes forever. Of course what used to take me a week takes me three weeks. LOL I'm thankful I learned patience while I was younger. Blessings to you and your land
You guys are awesome. I'm proud of all of you. If I hadn't lived a life on the desert in a moble home with 6 children, and no utilities, I wouldn't understand like I do. We hauled water in big clorox jugs and heated one jug for a bath...after adding another cold one...then running everyone through. (seldom heard but often seen - dirty water washes clean. )
Your boys are great! I love that they want to help build their own homestead too! And they seem like they are good at it too! I’ll bet they will learn so much along the way...more than most kids their age would ever learn in traditional school. As they get older and stronger they will be running the place before yo know it!
My partner used a plastic pallet for around a neighbors well and it helped them a lot. It might enhance your well area over just gravel. Finding the pallet might be the hardest part. They toss them out at stores now and then. Beer or soda work the best.
It is always great when projects become family fun. We have four kids 3 boys and a girl and just recently did a large landscape project and regraveled our driveway and the kids were so excited to be able to help. Love watching your family and so proud of you all. Keep up the good work!
Darryl Allen I’ve already been thinking up ways to make one!! I found a really old scraper blade for some piece of farm equipment in the barn that I’d like to use!
So happy that the boys helped. Teaching them SKILLS that they can use later in life!! AWESOME!!! Hard work never hurt anyone!!! :)
Those boys at the end!!! My heart just melted. Nice job guys!

So please keep filming if for no one else but yourselves and me❤️
Boys got haircuts. They look really nice. Awesome that they help around the farm. 😊😊
Great feeling when a project gets ✍🏻 off the “to do” list. Wonderful teamwork! ❤️🐓
That's hard work for sure. The boys just working and learning skills. More lessons than folks think when kids are homeschooled. Pretty amazing to see them not give up. Good job Ben & Meg..❤
You have both raised wonderful boys...warmed my heart to see them working alongside their Dad and wanting to finish the job...way to go!
People can think what they want to; you do what you need to do when you need to do it and how you need/want to do it. Your doing good!
Goals)
I’m so glad you still have this time with them!
"It's a spider yo-yo." Yeah, water shot out my nose on that one. LOL
That's nice clay for making bricks, natural walls for raised beds, etc.
You have wonderful young boys and you are wonderful parents. So refreshing to see a family like yours.
Great Job!!! Wow... that was ALOT of work! But so worth it!!!
Wow, you’re not going to be able to eat out of bed in the morning! What a tough job. So nice to see your boys helping you, they’re very special young men.
Family working together is so beautiful
I really enjoyed that your older boys helping you, teaching strong work ethics is a must in today’s world, not to mention spending time with Dad
You have awesome kids.
Glad that got done. It hurt watching Ben. He is one strong man.
Thanks so much for sharing!
👍❤️🦊
My oldest and I love digging, compost, trenches, beds....the repetitive task calms him on rough days. I have a special place in my heart for a spade. He no longer has plastic ones, he's upgraded to the real thing.
The boys just wanted to use those fancy headlights! Love watching your family all work together.
Mmmmm, absolutely loved this. Especially that ending. Gave me chill bumps.
There is a shovel attachment that goes into a rotary hammer, it makes quick work of digging in hard earth!
What a beautiful video! A pure hearted crew of single minded men, conquering...
That is a lot of work!! Digging red clay is one thing, but no comparison to digging compacted gravel. You're a better man than I am, Ben, I would have given up, bit the bullet, and rented a trencher anyway. Kudos to sticking with it to get it done.
THAT MAN LOVES HIS FAMILY...!!!!!!!
I think all boys are born with type of magnet for dirt, water and mud. They play so hard. My son would fall asleep in his dinner from plating so hard. When he got to big for me to move him I made a bed on the floor for him. He actually like it. Strange but I love him. He's 34 now and still remembers it.
Give a kid a shovel! Your young men have a great role model. I used to go out with my dad and do projects. Best time ever!
Brought back memories of working with my dad. Digging a sewage line ditch for a new bathroom. I was about the same age as your oldest. I still, to this day, make sure a ditch has square corners and the correct drop. Good job.
Boys working with daddy so cute...
Have a wonderful evening 🌻🌻🌻
(seldom heard but often seen - dirty water washes clean. )
Not much more rewarding than a job well done. :) small improvements like that sure make a homestead nice! Love to see the boys working with you.
Beer or soda work the best.
so great to have helpers on such a backbreaking job. makes life so much better to have willing participants. Great job boys
It is always great when projects become family fun. We have four kids 3 boys and a girl and just recently did a large landscape project and regraveled our driveway and the kids were so excited to be able to help. Love watching your family and so proud of you all. Keep up the good work!
Really enjoyed the ending, I don't think I've ever seen kids keep on working after they were told they could stop, well done kids 👍
Hey brother Ben,
I'm not sure if this will work or not; but try fashioning a plow blade to pull behind your mower.
Darryl Allen I’ve already been thinking up ways to make one!! I found a really old scraper blade for some piece of farm equipment in the barn that I’d like to use!
