Ahhh, Korngold! I can see him sitting at the piano playing little riffs, no one daring to approach too closely, the quill coming out, a few jots and genius is played forward.
Can’t recommend enough the deepest dive of all: read Brendan Carroll’s THE LAST. PRODIGY to truly appreciate Korngold fully Opera, chamber, symphony, piano, film. He did it all in an idiom all his own. The child of R Strauss, Mahler, Wagner and most of all The Viennese School inculcates every measure of his music.
@@AdamMusicWorld any guess as to why Kathrin is never performed on stage ? The CD set offers a further glimpse into his genius and why Puccini admired his talent and output so much.
I thought Korngold only composed music for films, so I was pretty surprised to discover he also composed chamber music. Thank you for updating this audio!
So fun to see the Brahms sextet sneak in there. Really interesting piece, I will have to give this a few listens!
Precocious talent like this is so mysterious. I cannot believe a teenaged Korngold wrote this assured and complex piece.
spectacular spectacular spectacular!!!

Ben Lindsay He wrote operas, too, and it seems he might be having a bit of a revival.
