    Hey folks. This might be a bit difficult to watch, I changed the angle a bit and didn’t really notice how weird it looked until I saw it on my TV. Sorry about that and thanks for sticking with it.

    Great review, thank you. I have had my Synik 30 for about 14 months now. Until I began working remotely from home during the pandemic, I used it as an EDC, carrying a corporate laptop and various other work-related items to and from the office daily. I’ve also taken a number of trips using it as my one bag, including several of 10 days to two weeks duration. It’s a fantastic bag, and I can’t say enough good things about its design, construction and usability. You can put an amazing amount of stuff in it if you plan and pack well, and I find the multiple pockets to be one of its best features. It is expensive, but I’ve never regretted the cost because it is such a good value. I highly recommend it.

    I hear a lot of people say they don’t love the look of the bag. However I have the guide’s edition and I think it looks great but agree…the more you use it, the more you love it. Have sold most other travel bags but think I’ll have this for a long time!

    I have a 2022 Synik 30 in 525 ballistic black & Island halycon interior with blacked out badge...but your Deep Blue with the red halycon interior is one of the very best color combos I've seen.

      Thanks! Blue/Red combos are my jam! But especially Tom Bihn’s blue ballistic nylon is super rich and looks great under any lighting. I’m glad I jumped on it immediately.

    I watch a lot of videos about backpacks, and this isn’t the most fancy one. But you certainly make up for it in how you touch on certain points such as how some bags become irritating over time. Those are little nuggets of practicality a backpack fanatic knows about. Good job. Keep it up.

    I’ll take a functional bag over a pretty bag any day. I absolutely love that you can fill pockets/pouches of TB bags without sacrificing space from another compartment. These bags are well made - the people who sew them are masters. Also, I believe the water bottle pocket is waterproof. So, if your bottle leaks or spills, the rest of your stuff will stay dry.

      It’s insanely versatile, one of the nice things about a non-camera focused pack is that it can actually collapse and expand depending on your load. The high-end market is flooded with camera packs at the moment.

    Loved your videos for a while... and I think this may be what finally gets me to pull the trigger on this. Damnit. Good to see how it fares as an EDC as well - I was worried the smaller one wouldn't be big enough, and the larger too large.
    I'd say I've been on a similar bag journey to you, albeit cheaper and this, plus your high standards means I trust your reviews far more than Chase Reeves. Keep it up man.

      @@HumorousMaximus I agree, to a point. I carried a Synapse 19 for about 8 years. I was so loyal to that bag. It was just a little bit too small for my needs - I blew out two zippers over the years (not at the same time). They replaced them for free - they really do mean it with their warranty. But I could tell that I would just end up blowing out a zipper again because I had to pack the bag so full. I tried on the Synapse 25, but one part of the back panel hit my back in a really uncomfortable way when I packed it full. (I live in Seattle, so I just went to their showroom - they let you try out the bags there before you buy.) I was also starting to find the pockets on the Synapse to be too directive - not as flexible for different uses as I'd like. I decided to shop around, and I ended up choosing the Evergoods CHZ22. The capacity is right, and prefer the more flexible organizational structure of the bag. It also carries better when it's loaded up than the Synapse, thanks to the frame sheet. We'll see how it does over time.

    Yeah, I'm sold even more than I was before seeing your vid. Just waiting on the color I want to move out of production. Nice bag, functional and IMO is pretty good looking. I've had plenty of bags that screamed their intentions, Tactical, TactiCOOL, School Boy/Girl, Lux, Cheap, Just Because, and many others. But with T.B., you get a bag that doesn't say much but when you utilize it, it speaks volumes! Thanks for the vid! Now, for me, it's just a matter of time!!!

    I really appreciate that it’s all made in the USA. I bought another bag that was just as expensive and it was shipped to me directly from Malaysia. So the American company didn’t even bring it into their own warehouse to check it or anything. I know it’s a profit driven thing, but it just felt wrong.

    The first point about sleeping on the Synapse because it didn’t catch your eye is exactly where I’m at. I’ve looked at SO many bags but I know that the Synapse 25 will probably be my next purchase. The GoRuck GR1 21L, Evergoods Half Zip 22L, Timbuk2 Parker, and Dsptch Daypack all look great, but the Synapse is the only one that really checks all of my boxes, except for the looks. But it’ll be on my back where I can’t see it anyway, right? lol

Would this TTR7 fit in the bottom of this Synik? It would seem like it could based on how the pockets have L independence. Thank you for any feedback you can provide. Thank you for sharing this - compared to the Halycon Synapse 25 in your other review (great video btw), considering getting the Halcyon Synik 30, would I have to fill out the entire bag in order for it to maintain its shape? How has the material held up these lasted few years? Does the extra weight of the ballistic nylon dig into your shoulders when the Synik is fully packed out? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you again for a solid set of reviews!

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Halcyon is a bit softer and more likely to collapse when not full. But neither look bad when collapsed. Both are extremely comfortable, the weight difference is negligible.

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The extra 5L comes from 2 inches of depth. So it’s as wide/tall as the Synapse. Doesn’t feel much bigger. I mentioned in the video the bag folds in on itself when not fully packed out, so it doesn’t really stick out. They’ll both be fine for daily carry.

    I do not really understand which problem people have with the "dad vibe" with backpacks. I think if you want a well-working main compartment, you have to let go of most of the "slick" look. You have to stack the exterior pockets onto the main compartment, not into it. IMO, the Synik actually looks good. I have found a similar bag which the looks of I did not like at all in the beginning, but it really has grown on me due to its excellent usability. It is mostly box-shaped, but that makes it extremely practical. Combined with an excellent harness system, I have not yet found a better backpack.

      I actually bought the GR2 34L. I didn’t get a chance to do a video before returning it. Was a little too big for my daily use. I prefer the GR2 for that extra organizational panel. If they ever make a 26L version again, I might check it out.

      I was going to ask this very question. Apparently, if you added the internal frame to the old Synapse, then it *would* stand up on its own, so it's a real shame the Synik (which comes with an internal frame) doesn't. 😥

    Fantastic review as always! I tried both the 22 and the 30 but found one far too large and the other too little (insofar as it doesn’t hold a 15” laptop) so I’m crossing my fingers for a 26L version of the Synik. Also just a small critique...perhaps you’re using a certain lens or it’s the angle of the camera but it’s making me feel a bit nauseated.

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. I actually noticed that too rewatching it on my TV. Angle is way too harsh, and the camera was a little lower than usual. Sorry!

    It’s hard to get pass the looks of this bag! LOL I had it and thought it looked too wide etc. However, I probably should have used it for a while before making that decision! But over $300?? That’s a lot of bag choices out there..

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries. I’ll just say that you get what you pay for. Also the bag is made in the USA, so you should expect a bit of a premium for that.

      VS some sleek looking modern thing.
      What does this guy have that you’d even want to steel?
      Some crusty Crocs, granola bars, mustache trimmer and a thick book of crosswords?
      (I say that as someone with a burnt orange Synik on the way, so no hate!)
