Imagine acrylic paint like a brick wall. The pigment is the bricks (doesnt matter if they are stone or clay or even blocks of plastic) The medium is the cement used to make sure the bricks stay all stuck together The vehicle is the water in the cement, it evaporates and leaves the pigment and its binder in place. In the case of cement its water, but in paint it can be water, lacquer or alcohol (most popular ones)
acrylic paints always seem to cause confusion as people dont seem to know what they are actually made up of. Acrylic paints are made up of 3 parts, "pigment" "binder" "vehicle" The pigment can be many things, they can be synthetic or natural. The pigment is not the reason they are called acrylic paints. The binder is the part that binds the pigment to the surface its being painted on The Vehicle is the transport method of getting the pigment/binder mix onto the surface. That vehicle can be water or alcohol or something "hotter" as you call it like a lacquer. I think the main reason for the confusion is that people dont seem to know paint is actually made up of 3 parts and not just two. and the third part might or might not be water... And that people naturally associate acrylic paints and water based paints you end up where you are now. Hope that helps
