Just did this trip a few hours ago and your video is a great remembrance. Like the videographer, 4 out of 5 of us in my boat were thrown out. Not too bad but the swim test was essential. Dry suit is not super bulky-easier to swim in than a wetsuit. But swimming as hard as you can across the river and then over to the boats gave a good feel. Since I missed the boats the first time, I had to let the river take me back in an eddy and then swim again to the boats-I was exhausted and that was just the swim test, 20 minutes in! Right now, not sure I would do it again but very glad we did it through all three canyons! Guides were amazing and were very serious about safety and working as a team

Awesome video. Had to be such an adrenaline rush when you fell in that 38 degree water! Great memories!!

Great video. Scary moments. I was in Alaska this past July. I wish we had visited this river. Looks intense. Im glad you made back to your boat.

Wow that's amazing, i like it !! Is it worth it to go for the 3rd canyon or only 2 ?
How much time rafting in each canyon takes ? and what camera did you use to film this, i like the quality ?

Yes it is totally. The last segment of this six mile creek is where most of the level 5 rapids are. Don’t remember how long it took. I used a go pro hero 9. Ya it’s a good camera.

Can you tell me about "this swim test"? I mean - I read "wifey" couldn't continue because she didn't do too well.... just how well do you have to do??? Because we're gonna be in a dry suit - I've never worn one before but it looks heavy. I fell once out of a raft in Chatooga River Georgia... but that's "warmer" water. This is Alaska OMG >____________

The water is cold but because you wear dry suit the water won’t go inside. It’s not too heavy though. I am a scuba diver so I can say how heavy and uncomfortable a neoprene suit is. I did Chatanooga too. But this is even more intense. This is a true level 5. You always have to listen to the instructor.
Swim test is absolutely important. There is a stream that you have to cross and the water is strong. If you are a beginner in swimming then I would not recommend this at all. Tbh, I was stupid for listening to my wife and let her get on the raft. We were actually lucky because during the test, she tried to swim across and the current was too strong she was drifting away. There was a guy at the end who threw a rope and she caught it.
Bottom line, If you are a good swimmer and a strong paddler who doesn’t freak out during tense situations, I would say you should definitely try it because it’s super fun. If not don’t even risk it. It’s not worth.
