One of the best interviews you’ve ever done Luke. It’s a privilege to hear an MMA mastermind like Eric breakdown a world title fight and game plan in such detail.
Damn, I always knew Eric was an amazing coach, I never knew how deep his thinking and understanding of people and life in general is. This is the type of person you follow into battle. True leader.
Nicksick talks about MMA on such a granular level that it's insane. When I hear him say something I feel like my MMA knowledge expands in like 5 different directions at once. When I'm watching my favorite fighters and I see him in the other guy's corner, I know it's not gonna be an easy night. Give this man Coach of the Year.

I think plenty of people suspected it could play out the like the Strickland/cannonier fight or yoel/izzy fight. I figured it'd go to a decision, didn't think izzy was going to dominate like eveyone else did. Didn't think Sean would pull it off, but felt it was going to be closer than eveyone was saying. Izzy fights to the level of his opponents most of the time, if Sean gave him nothing to work with, izzy wouldn't do much, and Sean would lose the rounds for not doing much, and izzy would get another boring decision win. I think the ufc also didn't want to book the fight for fear of it being another izzy/Romero fight. Crazy how a few tweaks to Sean's game made all the difference.
There's a lot of shit things about mma and the world in general now, but it's interviews like this that make me appreciate being alive rn to witness it all. Relatable, insightful. No masks. Strickland is "I am. Take it or leave it." Nicksick is the mentor and friend we all need. Everyone needs a champion, what a great combo. LFG!
Luke has earned a lot of respect for me this week after the Strickland vs Izzy fight. Many media members aren’t giving Sean his flowers, and are trying to focus on what Izzy didn’t do, instead of what Sean did right. Luke has had nothing but positive words about Sean’s stellar performance. One of my main critiques of Luke is that sometimes he lets his political/world views taint his commentary on fighters. He has done none of that with Sean, and I find that growth to be something he should be proud of.
Luke will sometimes let his political views impact his views of certain fighters true likability or greatness but one thing I’ve always loved about him is that I feel he is extremely fair and honest with his scoring/breakdowns of fights.
