my vote would be for you to not go too fast and skip up to cycle 40. I like your content and would love to see the subtle differences you make on this challenge.
I LOVE your methodical way of going about this seemingly impossible challenge. I'd say include as much as you can, but I'd understand if you don't want to repeat some things
I am loving the restart! Learning from a failed challenge is a great way to learn. Please don't skip anything. Slow and steady is the way, that way we can learn asking with you.
I really love that you are redoing the same seed to apply the lessons of he first attempt. I find this extremely helpful. It is already so different on the second cycle, it wouldn't be repetitive to show it at normal length, and not cut out more than you normally would.
Glad you have restarted. Don't skip to cycle 40, go through what you have done differently :) Even if you go through it more quickly like you did with the restart just now.
I do think throwing yourself at it blind, then reflecting on what went wrong and calculating out what is possible is a decent method for finding a solution. Keep up the good work.
I like to see how it all happens :) also now your dupes wont be sorted by number, if you wanna fix that you could use a 001 system. That way 10 wont show up between 1 and 2, I think. Good luck :DD
Do not skip, so we can feel your stress levels. CO2 is killing, deal with it on time. Do not make your ladder runs too long, to avoid dupes dropping their food to the bottom. Looking forward to the next episode.
Your great hall is 4 blocks tall, but from what I saw on a micro base series, it’s only 1 column that needs to be 4 tall, you can drop the middle down to save an entire row of space that can be used for farming between great halls
I think one big issue with food last time was removing your food sources before the next one was ready (e.g. planting more mealwood, and immediately removing mush bar microbe mushers, instead of waiting for the mealwood to grow before removing the microbe mushers) Also, you could save a little labor by disabling equipment instead of removing it - if you need to use it again in the future, you’ve saved a deconstruct task, a supplying task, and a construction task. Same with wires - disconnected wires can be used in future electrical grid changes without wasting the deconstruct and reconstruct work. If you really need the materials at some point in the future, you can always deconstruct them at that point. And waiting to deconstruct also means your dupes have had the chance to skill up and will deconstruct faster. I’d love to see you take it slow again - it’s great to watch the colony grow stage by stage.
There is nothing wrong with admitting defeat and starting the challenge over. You will fail more times than you will succeed. Learning from your past mistakes is what allows you to progress. I have no issues with watching you go through each cycle again. It showcases the changes you've made from your previous attempt and it shows how they end up affecting the ending result. Love the series!
Super sweet of you to want to alter the series to make it up to us that you're starting over, even though I imagine that means cramming in extra work for you. Maybe that's kinda random but I had a rough day and I was like "aw, that's nice, you didn't have to do that, I appreciate that". Hope this attempt goes better!
Yes!! Try #2! Please show us every glorious cycle! I'm with the other commenters who'd like to see how this base develops having learnt from the first attempt. I'd definitely watch and see how it grows.
I really love that you didn’t give up on the challenge, I’ve absolutely loved watching this so far and I’m so so excited to see your improvements from last time!
10:30 Bedrooms also need to have at least one column be 3 high to be valid... and it is good practice to put a diffuser at the far end of the room so air comes in that way, pushing the O2 to the middle of the base's main shaft...
I did mention a while ago that you should basically dig out the whole map for burried food and hatches. So instead of making dirt bars you dig dirt and find food until your farm works I would setup a few breather aquariums asap with hatchery and proper exess pools like a few fish drop off giving into MULTIPLE 9x9 tanks where the exess fish can still produce eggs too. Find the critter morphing room and turn every pip into a cuddle pip to accelerate the fish egg hatching in the hatchery.
I'm glad you're starting over. The challenge is very difficult and stressful, but definitely interesting to watch you tackle. The only person I have seen who did the challenge easily so far is JD Plays, but he was also starting on the traditional, larger asteroid so there were more resources available. Super excited to be catching up on this series today.
The job priorities look amazing! I had the same issue when practicing digging tasks. All the dupes bunched up in one area so I always use level 5 on builds. The base is looking amazing. Get airflow down asap. With small rooms the carbon dioxide can’t escape quickly and dupes suffocate or waste time gasping for air.
This is great fun to watch! Maybe when you finish the challenge, you can make a single video that compresses it all, but for now, please let us see most of what you're doing! I've messed around with the naming and sorting of dupes before, so I know just how long this episode alone took to produce. I'd prefer the frequent episodes that cover just a handful of cycles to more compressed videos less often. (No, seriously, I love these challenges. You failing and taking it at the slow speed just means those first 9 episodes were a nice bonus.)
Hey, your series here inspired me to try it on my own! And I'm having fun learning and improving. And am glad to see that it's wasn't all smooth sailing! And even a restart! First time in the early game I stabilized around 50 dupes. Then second time last night around 76. (still 6ish cycles in) I've definitely seen how I can improve and diversify my food already because food is definitely more important than oxygen it seems. I also try to not dig out too much so the gasses stay more compact. I'm doing it on the default map though. 😅
I must say good on you for keeping at it. I do love this game. My computer a bit aged though. I only run 10 to 12 dupes and spend all kinds of time keeping things cleaned up and all spaces not being used gets sucked to vacuum. Control the pathing. Good video as always.
Keep the series going. A do over is reasonable considering the difficulty of the challenge. I have an idea I would like to share: Don't use the great hall. Hear me out: Build the great hall.. just don't use them until the colony food situation is stable. If they don't use the great hall, the dupes can eat on the floor immediately upon getting their food. The risk of them dropping their food on the way to their assigned table is eliminated. Granted, they will lose the room bonus, but at least they are less likely to starve. They will be grumpy but satiated and alive. Hope this idea helps. A modification of this idea would be to remove the great hall privileges from only the starving dupes to prevent them from having to run to the great hall. But this would take more babysitting.
I thought that too, but the dupes don't wait where they get the food. They tend to spread out a little and have preferred spots, saw many of them going all the way up the ladder and eating there. Could be wrong though.
I vote no skip, I love watching the videos and this series is great. My first thought on you saying it failed was "Hope there is a series restart coming" and I did not even have to wait for a new video to get that.
I prefer the way you feel comfortable. I personaly love watching how the whole station grows, and you explain most of it, so i would prefer going the same speed as last time. But would understand if you want to take it faster.
Interesting approach, let's see if it works out! Personally I would create 12 schedules with 8-9 dupes each. That way 9 toilets would be enough, if you stagger the downtime accordingly. Saves valuable space!
I like seeing the whole process as it's more fun and learn stuff. Also my vote would be for you to start again using the new knolage you have as personaly, knowing what's around you kinda go's aganst the chalenge abit (again, in my personal opinion, Will still watch regardles of what you go with. XD ).
Take your time, it's awesome. That's the true ONI experience, restarting and optimising. If you want to optimise a bit further the first cycle (not that i wish you to fail that run hehe). You can put everybody on a ALL WORK schedule the first cycle. The dupes spawn with a lot of calorie and perfect stamina. Then setup the schedule as you did around the end of the first cycle, it does'nt matter too much but i don't like the lazy dupes taking nap at the start with full stamina, or waiting around at break with empty bladder and full stomach. You could also argue for no break until the "new hope" buff is gone. You starting with ~3500 calorie per dupe (so 350 000 calorie) and the clock is already ticking, it's best to not waste those.
id show some of it, maybe record showing it and then cut up a recap video for the week or something. could be nice for others to see tips on how to do the challenge.
I hope one day the Toggling task is a thing of the past. There are a lot of switches and automation that can be toggled without dupe support already. Waiting for a dupe to close a door to trap a critter is almost rage inducing
I do something similar with my dupes, naming them after their jobs, with 3 main generalist jobs and a 1 specialist per shift [since a standard 3 lav/2shower/3 sink washroom plus a spare jav/sink in the hospital serves 4 dupes per shift]. the 3 mains are: Industry: these do digging, building and decorating. Utility: these are mechatronics engineers who also prioritize toggling and life support Food: cooks, farmers and ranchers, they also prioritize attacking I am experimenting with specialist roles, for now I just label them Science and they do doctoring, researching and piloting. It seems to work, especially with dispersed barracks pre-set to become private bedrooms later on, 1 per research building by the lab for my primary researches, 1 by the hospital for the doctor, 1 per cooking station for the primary cooks, 1 by each ranch for the ranchers, and 1 per farm for farmers, and a normal barracks each for the industrial and utility dupes, either centrally located, or with the utility barracks near the power plant / crafting area. 1 barracks, near my eventual cuddle pip ranch, is reserved for the dupes with the highest stress, so the cuddle pips can cheer them up as they go to work. This can be easily scaled up, as it puts dupes by their jobs. with the current setup, and 2-3 downtime/3 bed/1bath, it gives 6-7 staggered schedules with someone constantly working at each job for up to 24 dupes [3 starting, 1 hobo, 1 frozen friend, up to 19 prints]
maybe take the middle road and try to do 10 cyle per episode, depending if you find big issues or nice tips for people who also want to try the challange.
I'm glad you included the failed attempt; failing is such an integral part of the game, and can be fun in its own way! Alright, back to binging this...
I would love to see you continue series ! As for how to speed this up i think best solution (but quite work-heavy) would be to use a speed-up recording of you doing stuff and explaining how you do and what you do while it's playing out. That way we get both of the benefits - the progression is faster and we get to see all of that happen live !
Can any dupe make mush bars or is that for cooks only? You wouldn’t want all dupes to prep or cook just in case the chef is overwhelmed? Extra down time in the beginning so dupes have time to eat since they drop food to go get oxygen?
also plumped bathrooms. it gives you extra water. Your dupes will suck up about 6 tons of water just from breathing. You'll need 3 really good water sources just to make air. 100 dupes make Just under a 1/2 ton of water a cycle.
Attempting to sort out oxygen sooner may reduce starvation, dups will spend less time catching breath and more time eating/working. Oxygen diffuser is likely way too costly for this number of duplicates. Perhaps using the terrarium then utilize the waste Pwater bottle's to make polluted oxygen.
Use you quickly do ranching. You'll run out of dirt and water long before you even get enough seeds. it's 1.5 hatches a dupe. 8 ranches of hatches. And all you need is rock. which you'll have more than enough of. 500 mealice that you'll never have enough dirty for.
With so many duplicants i'd go straight for water sive and o2 production. basically with 100 dupes ur poluted water is basically going to be ultra water positive. meaning u could dump that water into a spom and plants.
I thought that when you were doing this series, you were going to print the dupes all the way to 100 as the cycles go by so that you can have an easier time to prepare
I wouldn't mind to experience the demise together with you, to be honest! This felt like a big ole spoiler ;) Good luck with the next attempt though! It is such a fun challenge.
Yo, I heard that baby and started looking around. Sounded like something in my house because it was so different than your voice. Either my headphones are that good, or your microphone set up is that good. Thanks for saving my sanity.
Sooo what i would like to see u fo differently this time... 1 Rush tech faster.... you took way way way way to long to get toilets up and running and get to the stage where you could use electrolyzers. Yes heat will eventually kill uour base buttttt you havw a cold biome you can use it to cool ur base oxygen setup for 100 cyclew and by then u should access to steel and plastic. 2 manage the air quality more. That yucky lungs debuff gives u a minus to athletics if i remember right and at the very least it makes your dupes do a yucky reaction fairly often. 3 manage the diseases more. Food poisoning and slime lung were absolutely masscring you last time. 4 farm stations asap , ranch everything u can as well asap. 5 use algee terrarums to help deal with early co2 problems then swap it out later for carbon skimmers. 6 cant remember if ibsaw them early on but im fairly sure u could try to get a starvation samishell farm going for extra seafood . Your gonna need that rad sheilding eventually. Ur gonna thrive not just survive. 7 we dont mind u speed up the early gameplay a bit more unless u think u are doverging significantly from your first run in which case we want to see it all since we have reference points to compare to.
Using this new organization is more likely to overcome the challenge. With the previous chaotic setup you didn't take advantage of the duplicant' attributes.
I know you want to preserve algae but you need at least 20 oxygen diffusers (1 per 5 dupes) which requires 11kg of algae per day. it is true that you will go through all your algae quickly but by that time you should have the Sublimation Station tech by then. you also need to build 17 Sublimation Stations ( 1 per 6 dupes) if you filter them out, but since you have limited sand then you need 23-24 instead because you get a 30% breathing penalty for the yucky lung. you will face a problem of not having enough polluted dirt because each Sublimation Station needs 600kg of polluted dirt per day which is 30 outhouses per Sublimation Station. you could use bathrooms sinks and showers to create polluted water but that only gives you 130kg's of polluted dirt per day. so this is a temporary solution until you have Electrolyzer's. also you will need 12 Electrolyzer's to provide for 100 dupes.
maybe skip around untill cycle 40. like maybe the next 37 cycles in 5 minutes quick fire, more cots, foods up, need more oxygen, more water, dupe died, firepoles down, yada yada... it would allow to add anything that happened and still get everyone back to the normal groove without needing 20 episodes
Put your downtime before the bedtime. That way they will travel back to base, eat/poop and be ready to goto bed when the bed time hits. They way you have it, if they are too far from the base they will miss their bedtime and will end up falling asleep somewhere and get the sore back debuff. I was going to suggest muck bars would have kept you alive .. but it just would have delayed the inevitable.. ranches over plants IMO.
I put the bedtime before the downtime, so when they are done doing the pooping and eating, they will go back to work, even if it's still their downtime (because we restricted access to all recreational buildings).
@@Nathans-Sandbox I get the idea, I just don't think it's worth the risk of missing bedtime because they couldn't get back to the base on time. You'll also lose the barracks morale boost so it's almost a double penalty (sore back & Morale loss) though I guess you can just increase the "bedtime" slots like I would increase the downtime slots to achieve the same results. The best part about bedtime slots is they only sleep the amount necessary. Looking forward to seeing how this run-through goes ! Thanks for replying so I understand what your thinking is!
Don't go to fast I would like to se the small differences too. And also: The mess hall gives a lot of morale but duplicants might starve even if they have food because they're going to need to bring it to the mess hall.
Maybe the Strategy is to quickly get like 10 dupes or so I’m the teleporter and leave them as like progressing for like steel or detailed things while the original planetoid just tries to thrive
I don’t think skipping cycles would be the way to go, maybe speeding it up, but to be perfectly honest I’m only excited seeing the beginning struggle, once bases become full automation and dupes are idle due to base near perfection, micro optimization, etc. That’s when series tend to drop off for me. I love the beginning where real skill and strategy takes place
Lice loaf is inefficient; just stick with eating the raw meal lice. Then go all in on fried mushrooms. Mushroom farms are great, stick them at the bottom of the base and leave them in the co2
my vote would be for you to not go too fast and skip up to cycle 40. I like your content and would love to see the subtle differences you make on this challenge.
Yeah, going back into the challenge with a better plan will definitely look different in interesting ways
Totally agree
Agreed.
Same
I LOVE your methodical way of going about this seemingly impossible challenge. I'd say include as much as you can, but I'd understand if you don't want to repeat some things
I love how you've just gone straight back into this. I've every faith in you, matey!
Yeah love that... he jumped in and it was going badly. Learned and read people's comments and giving it another try! Super entertaining.
I am loving the restart! Learning from a failed challenge is a great way to learn. Please don't skip anything. Slow and steady is the way, that way we can learn asking with you.
No need to skip forward! I want to see what you do different knowing what you know from the last run. Love the commitment to the challenge!
I really love that you are redoing the same seed to apply the lessons of he first attempt. I find this extremely helpful. It is already so different on the second cycle, it wouldn't be repetitive to show it at normal length, and not cut out more than you normally would.
I agree. Not repetitive already. Very excited.
I wanna see the whole process, its my favorite part!
I definitely would like to see your new approach! Please don't skip to much, I believe in you!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of attempt 2! and id rather you didnt skip, im loving this series and would love to see what changes :D
Your great hall is 4 blocks tall, but from what I saw on a micro base series, it’s only 1 column that needs to be 4 tall, you can drop the middle down to save an entire row of space that can be used for farming between great halls
i’m going to vote towards going through all the cycles a bit by bit. That way there isn’t a huge jump
I think one big issue with food last time was removing your food sources before the next one was ready (e.g. planting more mealwood, and immediately removing mush bar microbe mushers, instead of waiting for the mealwood to grow before removing the microbe mushers)
Also, you could save a little labor by disabling equipment instead of removing it - if you need to use it again in the future, you’ve saved a deconstruct task, a supplying task, and a construction task. You're doing great! I'll be happy with any style of video as long as we get more of these!
Yes!! Try #2! Please show us every glorious cycle! I'm with the other commenters who'd like to see how this base develops having learnt from the first attempt. I'd definitely watch and see how it grows.
5:20 Baby noices ❤ I would like to see the whole challenge again.
I really love that you didn’t give up on the challenge, I’ve absolutely loved watching this so far and I’m so so excited to see your improvements from last time!

Fast or slow, it will be good either way. I commend you for taking on this insane challenge. My dupes would be all gone by cycle 10. LOL!

I vote no skip, I love watching the videos and this series is great. My first thought on you saying it failed was "Hope there is a series restart coming" and I did not even have to wait for a new video to get that.
Base building and planning is my favorite part to watch! Please don't skip.
Yesyesyes, so excited for you trying again! Take it at whatever pace you want, i definitely wouldn't mind the slower content if that means more ;)

I'd personally like to see you go through it again. It'll show what you learned and how you adjusted :) I like knowing why you do stuff 😊
Take your time, it's awesome. That's the true ONI experience, restarting and optimising. If you want to optimise a bit further the first cycle (not that i wish you to fail that run hehe). Keep going bro and some ranch could help for the food and oxygen production can't keep up with 100 inhaler consuming is brutal
id show some of it, maybe record showing it and then cut up a recap video for the week or something. could be nice for others to see tips on how to do the challenge.
I hope one day the Toggling task is a thing of the past. There are a lot of switches and automation that can be toggled without dupe support already. Waiting for a dupe to close a door to trap a critter is almost rage inducing
we want to see process!!
Awsome vid!!
Diagonal build out gasses you don't need!!
:)
Would love to see the whole process again! Just progress a bit faster this time!
If you just use planter boxes for the plants that don't require liquid inputs (or being upside down) you'll save a lot of dirt.
I do something similar with my dupes, naming them after their jobs, with 3 main generalist jobs and a 1 specialist per shift [since a standard 3 lav/2shower/3 sink washroom plus a spare jav/sink in the hospital serves 4 dupes per shift].
the 3 mains are:
Industry: these do digging, building and decorating.
Utility: these are mechatronics engineers who also prioritize toggling and life support
Food: cooks, farmers and ranchers, they also prioritize attacking
I am experimenting with specialist roles, for now I just label them Science and they do doctoring, researching and piloting.
👍😉
I would love to see you continue series ! Всё круто! Интересно смотреть на весь процесс с начала!
I’d like to see the whole challenge! You learned a lot last time so let’s see it pay off!
👍
love the speed your going at with this run
Whatever you do, you do it very well, keep up your work :) I agree to continue the challenge ofc :) funny content
Can any dupe make mush bars or is that for cooks only? You wouldn’t want all dupes to prep or cook just in case the chef is overwhelmed? Extra down time in the beginning so dupes have time to eat since they drop food to go get oxygen?
Don't skip forward!!!!! U love this serie . Don't forget to ranch early!!! Good luck!!!
👍
GG. You should alternate the beds and bath. One floor of beds, one floor of toilets. That way all the dupes will have only to go up or down one floor.
If we're voting, I'd like a normal pace play-through. I enjoy the step by step 😊
brother show me everything i aint got the patience to do it myself but love to see you slam your head against this challange
I'd like to see what you do differently. It's all very entertaining and you are (in my opinion) the ONI master.
😘
Looking forward to a fresh start
👍
go slow half the fun in a challenge is the how
Still love the challenge, I think you should go at whatever pace you're more excited to film
don't skip too much! thanks for all the effort, if someone can do it, you can+
also plumped bathrooms. it gives you extra water.
Don’t skip! We believe in you Nathan
Make sure you have one spot in the bedroom that is four tiles high to get the moral bonus while they sleep.
are metal tiles possible? they can run much faster on them. also I dont mind if you go slow and show everything you want to, content is good :)
Use you quickly do ranching. You'll run out of dirt and water long before you even get enough seeds. it's 1.5 hatches a dupe. 8 ranches of hatches. And all you need is rock. which you'll have more than enough of. 500 mealice that you'll never have enough dirty for.
When i heard the baby i thought i was hearing voices because im high but after you saying that im reliefed thats really nice i guess
With so many duplicants i'd go straight for water sive and o2 production. basically with 100 dupes ur poluted water is basically going to be ultra water positive. meaning u could dump that water into a spom and plants.
👍
I thought that when you were doing this series, you were going to print the dupes all the way to 100 as the cycles go by so that you can have an easier time to prepare
I wouldn't mind to experience the demise together with you, to be honest! This felt like a big ole spoiler ;) Good luck with the next attempt though! It is such a fun challenge.
Fingers crossed!
7 we dont mind u speed up the early gameplay a bit more unless u think u are doverging significantly from your first run in which case we want to see it all since we have reference points to compare to.
wow, learning by mistake, gg mate, keep it up 👍
👍
Go slow. I love to see it all and love to see you talking to dups 😂
Treat attempt #2 like attempt #1. Its good to see your thought process.
Using this new organization is more likely to overcome the challenge. With the previous chaotic setup you didn't take advantage of the duplicant' attributes.
Keep it going!
Highlight the changes up to cycle 40 and then slow down would be my vote.
maybe skip around untill cycle 40. like maybe the next 37 cycles in 5 minutes quick fire,
more cots, foods up, need more oxygen, more water, dupe died, firepoles down, yada yada...
it would allow to add anything that happened and still get everyone back to the normal groove without needing 20 episodes
2:12 I did some meth 😂
😂
Don't go to fast I would like to se the small differences too.
And also:
The mess hall gives a lot of morale but duplicants might starve even if they have food because they're going to need to bring it to the mess hall.
Why do I have a feeling this is going to be a series with 100 videos
Maybe the Strategy is to quickly get like 10 dupes or so I’m the teleporter and leave them as like progressing for like steel or detailed things while the original planetoid just tries to thrive
“3 minutes ago” exciting :D
I don’t think skipping cycles would be the way to go, maybe speeding it up, but to be perfectly honest I’m only excited seeing the beginning struggle, once bases become full automation and dupes are idle due to base near perfection, micro optimization, etc. That’s when series tend to drop off for me. I love the beginning where real skill and strategy takes place
Why do you only use one research bench? Use 5 or something to speed up.
The research speed wasn't really holding us back the last time.
Lice loaf is inefficient; just stick with eating the raw meal lice. Then go all in on fried mushrooms. Mushroom farms are great, stick them at the bottom of the base and leave them in the co2
Lice Loaf gives an extra 500 kcal from what you put in.
@@Nathans-Sandbox yessir, but it also takes time and water. It's slow to make, and you've gotta fetch 50kg of water at a time
Just continue from here
Yeah you had 20t of dirt and two giant water supplies you could've kept going by making muck bars lol :P
I'm interested in following it's entirety
👍
Critter ranching should have been started also.
