Perfect video Nick! Explains everything so easily. After reading multiple TechNet and random other forum posts on MDT setup I was pulling my hair out on how to get it working. More than half didn't even mention to update deployment share, and my sysprep+capture sequence errors didn't give me anything useful as to what was wrong before doing this. Works perfectly now and currently capturing my Windows7 reference VM ;)
Hi, Nick i have seen almost every major topic video you created to counter check on our technique and get various thing to keep for us. Thus i found your video very helpful in terms of detail explanation regarding every topic you made for those who are in the filed IT & Acting as Admin somewhere to cope at their end on a quick way. Overall provided info, clear voice and step you created relevant to topic are quite good. Keep providing more tips & tricks. Thanks
OK, this says it is a step by step guide, but how did you get from 23:54 to 23:56 on the video? You say that you will copy the ISO to a VM, but the next screen is the MDT on what I assume is the reference machine?
Hes put that iso into a VM and booted the VM with it. The general idea is to make a "reference" deployment sequence that deploys from a fresh install CD - does all its updates - installs all your org required software - configures any settings and then captures itself to a new wim file. You use that wim in your "live" deployment sequence. This deployment purely deploys the wim file and the drivers for your make and model of machine. This way you have a (monthly) task to run the reference deployment to grab a up to date version of your image (dont want users doing 100s of updates cause of old reference) and that is fully automated. You then just need to import drivers when you get new make/models otherwise good to go.

I was able to successfully do this for one server but I am at a different location trying to do it again for someone else. everything works fine up until I get to part where MDT boots up. instead seeing MDT as it is in the video at 24:45, it asks me for a deployment share location that I am required to type in. it never asked me this before while working on another server. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose you are using a usb thumb to boot from created image.iso ? If so, is there any way to boot from the network directly (like PXE boot), without using any usb drives ?
You'd have to add the wim file created from the deployment share to your WDS server boot image section. Then you should be able to PXE boot to the lite touch image which should then pull the full iso from the deployment share
Hello Nick! i am facing a problem while importing Operating System. I get an error that says " Could not find a part of the path 'C:\DeploymentShare\Operating Systems\x64' I installed ADK and MDT using the steps you mentioned. Please suggest how to solve this error. Thanks.

Hi NLB, thanks for sharing part 10 and part 11 video of MDT/WDS. This might be a stupid question since I'm new to this but can I install a windows server 2019 on a workstation and then deploy machines over the network from that workstation? or do I need an actual server set-up?
Hi. I love your videos here. Very very informative and educational and easy to follow. As I'm following your instructions, I am stuck on the section where I need to copy all the Windows 10 files to the Deployment share (11min & 19 seconds into the video). I used an IOS of WIn10, mounted it, but it does not see the required file to move forward, even if I point to the Source folder of the ISO. I get a the following message from the Import Operating System Wizard window "Please fix all errors before continuing". There is a red exclamation when I hover over it that says the specified directory is missing the install.wim file, I only see a boot.wim file in the sources folder. Is there something I'm overlooking here? Thanks.
Hi Nick. Nice Video. I have a question. Once you have the last .iso and looks nice/complete and I have about 50 machines, do I apply this final .iso to those machines?
In case this helps anyone else: To get this to work, I also had to download and install the "adkwinpesetup.exe". without it I would get an MMC erro when I would right click the MDT Deployment Share / properties / and click on the Windows PE tab.

Great Video here. But is there a way I can just bake the answer file into windows 10 while it is in audit mode? I don't need a deployment server to deploy images I just need to capture my image with all the programs on it before it goes out to be cloned. I read you can add the answer file to the sysprep folder C:\windows\system32\sysprep\panther but I haven't been able to get to work yet. Thanks
Awesome video. Question. I just took over an IT position and my predecessor already had this setup. Unfortunately, he left and I had no training. Everything has worked fine until we just got new Optiplex 7050 machines and now it won't ask for credentials when trying to connect to the deployshare server during LiteTouch from USB. Something about installed CAB files to update the NIC driver. I did this in DeploymentWorkbench for Out-of-Box Drivers and WinPE10 but still won't connect. Any ideas?
I know this is late but it is most likely the WinPE doesn't have the correct nic driver for your newer model Optiplex. You will need to inject the driver into the Boot.wim.
I love your videos, they have taught me a lot - still hoping to see some storage spaces direct; even a hyper-v lab example would be great. How did you get the vm to boot like that though? I wish you would have shown that step, because I’ve never seen a custom wim built or installed like this before.

As far as I understand, you have done all these steps on the deployment server, but you said you'll need a DC server. What you have supposed to do on the DC server?
The way I understand it, MDT has been setup as integrated to Active Directory for Authentication purpose. So a DC is needed since it uses AD for authentication.

you can use any hypervisor you want such as VMware or virtual box. he created a new virtual machine in a hypervisor and he mounted the iso he created to the vm to boot from. so for example in virtual box after creating a new virtual machine you right click it and select start. a window will pop up asking where to boot from. this is when you direct it to the Litetouch ISO you created and it will make the new VM boot with that iso. hope that helped
