    The owner had already swapped the CPU and thought that there was an issue with the RAM, so combined with the bent pin, it sounded like a Mboard issue to me.

    Hey, Greg.
    With Gigabyte boards, I've noticed that when you reset the cmos, you have to keep power going to the board (don't switch off the psu) otherwise it won't clear.

    • @tartantulakid666
      @tartantulakid666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure? I cleared my cmos earlier this week while i was trouble shooting my rig. My psu died so there was no way for me to get power and my bios confirmed that all my settings reset. I'm using a z490 gaming x for reference.

    You could try using a BIOS flasher (Eprom programmer kit) on the old motherboard. To see if flashing a new bios would fix the issue.

      @FromTheGroundUP627 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thought, should always attempt a refresh of the bios in that situation.

  • @Trylen
    @Trylen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok Greg,, few things crossed my mind while watching this.
    1) You might want to get a PC speaker. In the case that a motherboard doesn't have a LED display for post codes, the pc speaker will give you the beep codes to diagnose that issue.
    2) XFX used to make NVidia cards, like a Geforce MX440, but it was a LONG time ago. Your card is most likely a HD5450 or HD6450.
    3) As the 300 series started with 8th Gen a bios update may have been required. There are even some boards that accept a 9900 non-K but need an update for the KS.

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) I have plenty of PC speakers Lol. They often don't work in these scenarios. No beeps.
      2) Was referring to relevant XFX cards, not ancient relics ;-)
      3) Tried 8th gen CPU and still no POST, so I doubt it was a BIOS update that was required. Couldn't POST to update it either way. Would need to swap chips outright.

    • @Trylen
      @Trylen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Odd on the post beep not working at times, I tend to use it more then the led codes.
      As to the trying the 8th gen, downside of condensing the video, can't see what was cut. Ah well, you still do good work.

    These are always interesting to watch - also funny to see both the overlap and differences in how we would troubleshoot. If it won't post the first thing i do is reset CMOS, but after that would disconnect all unnecessary things and strip the system down to bare minimum as Greg did. Also like he said - if you have to really dig into it just leave the motherboard out until you have a confirmed working setup again.

    I know it was a long shot but if I was in that position and tried what you did and still got no post then my last ditched effort in that scenario would have been to re-install the bios via usb flash, after all a corrupt bios would show the same thing you were seeing. I've had weird things like this happen to me and just refreshing the bios fixed my problem.
    Shame you never gave that a thought.
    Maybe next time, also good on you for buying this person a new motherboard, was a very nice gesture..Top guy!

    Glad to see the start of season 3 and this was a good computer to start with. You had to go thru almost all the components to find out what wrong with it. There is one thing that I have been wondering about. That is bent cpu pins/cpu socket pins, why are there so many people with bent pins? I have been making my own computer and later my kids computers for over 20 years. I have made or upgraded 30+ computers and I have never had a bent pin. People just sloppy putting them in? People drop them? you would think that if you are putting in a CPU you would know to be very careful and watch what you are doing.

    Always good to have a trusty ol speaker to troubleshoot pc issues, specially since only the top end motherboards have leds or segmented displays to inform issues that prevent POST.
    That being said, things done wrong (or at least wasn't shown in the video) from my years of experience fixing pc's:
    1) haven't tested the PSU - I've seen freaky issues caused by misbehaving PSUs...
    2) haven't tested the MoBo outside the case - bad case groundings can also cause really strange behaviors
    3) haven't tested the components (cpu/ram/GPU) before ordering a new MoBo - granted IF you don't have a compatible spare...
    bonus entry: enabled XMP right away, without checking for system stability?

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speakers haven't worked in 95+% of these Fix or Flop videos. We tested every component you listed in your comment before ordering a replacement. Not sure what you're on about. If the system isn't stable running XMP, it's a very quick toggle. My viewers, for the most part, are familiar with PC basics.

    I've had to straighten bent pins before, usually on a CPU, as I'm using the AMD platform. What I've found that works well for this task, is the back side of a utility blade. The blade thickness is almost exactly the pin spacing on, at the very least, the AMD processors. Hope this helps. God bless and stay well.

      @@aarontmg9758 it wouldn't be power, power comes from the 1st section of the pcie slot, it's for bandwidth, less lanes = less bandwidth, lower end gpus don't need can't handle such high bandwidth so don't need additional lanes hence they are not wired. Fun fact pcie slots can provide 75watts of power which is why low end gpus don't need supplemental power, also why I love pcie is forward and backward compatibility, where you can use a 16x device in a 1x slot (won't have all the bandwidth though) and vice versa, not to mention the compatibility between generations. 15:45 actually, if you're not using matching memory modules, applying XMP or AXMP is not a good idea because it can make the system unstable and cause random system crashes.
    Do not apply XMP if you have unmatched memory kits in your system. You would be better off buying 2 kits of dual channel at the same time from the same place and you will find bin matching modules that will support xmp or axmp profiles for overclocking memory. It's also cheaper than buying a kit of 4 modules.
    I've done that for years now all the way back to DDR1 and have had no issues doing this. I've definitely had problems buying the same manufacturer brands at different locations and at different times though and though the type is the same, the revision, chip manufacturer, etc. Were different which always lead to system instability when attempting to apply overclocking of any kind...

    That bent pin is most likely a crucial pin that was needed for the CPU to work. Just because you bent it back doesn't mean the damage was undone. Great job, and I totally woudn't be giving people upgrades all the time. You said you'll fix it, not pimp it out lol

    Like fix or flog.. would really like it if you did some kind of video series where you take view prebuilts and upgraded them to new cases.. just to show how a new case, better fans and/or cooling can really give new life to a prebuilt.

    It really is wild how many people bend socket pins. Like are people just not careful? It just boggles my mind after doing it hundreds of times without any issue.

    G'day Greg,
    For those who do complain about no upgrade it is not justified because you went Z390, which from the B365M is an upgrade.
    My niece & I had a good entry for FoF last week, I got a AeroCool XPredator Cube (Iron-Man Theme) for my Bedroom HTPC & my niece asked if she could do the case swap, she left the Pentium G4400/GA-H110M-S2H/Cooler/2x 4GB DDR4-2400 as 1 unit but when we turned the PC on after the swap just Boot Loops. My niece thought she had killed it 😢, we added a BIOS Speaker & got Memory Beep so took out the Left Channel DIMM, still Boot Loops & Mem Beeps, put the DIMM from left Channel in Right Channel & got a Post, added the Right Channel DIMM to the Left Channel & working fine too. So for some reason it just decided it didn't like the DIMMS in the slots they were in 🤷‍♀🤷‍♂???
    So proud of my niece as she has been a big help with projects like this where my disability makes things like working with tiny screws very frustrating.

    5:36 was that a spark of electricity when jumping CMOS? Huh, never actually seen that in person though I've only ever extensively troubleshot the one system. This series has been both amazingly helpful and a great deal of fun to sit through, glad the execs cleared a third season after all :P

    • @Dan-Simms
      @Dan-Simms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is the point, to bridge those pins so electricity flows through them.

    • @Dan-Simms
      @Dan-Simms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, sparks aren't the point, it's just something that happens.

      @@Dan-Simms hah no I fully understand. Just that in the times I've had to clear CMOS I've never actually caught sight of it before. Makes sense since you are shorting two points after all, just thought it was amusing.

      @@tyler6602 Yeah but he always tells people to build a pc over buying an overpriced prebuilt. Hell his whole channel is centered around trying to help people save money. It’s kind of ironic that he would get sponsored by a company that is trying to promote their prebuilds.

    XFX was actually making nVidia cards a while ago before becoming AMD exclusive. I still have an ancient Geforce 8000 series XFX graphics card. Not sure when they did the switch to AMD only and if it aligns with whatever release date your "trusty" GPU had, but there is a chance it could be a nVidia GPU even if it's XFX.

    Not surprisingly, they cut corners on the models with 11th gen i7 chips as well, they use a argb cooler but it is on par with the intel stock cooler. 2 140mm fans up top as intake and a decent tower cooler fixes the majority of their cases' issues with temps. Fun fact a good deal of motherboards will automatically reset to cmos defaults if they fail to boot numerous times.

  • @GabrielsTech
    @GabrielsTech 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The cooler was not secured with the two top "screws". They where set to release and not lock. That would definitely cause a overheating issue.

    I don't know why the new board displays ibuypower on boot. I am in the impression that the original board is modified by the oem to display their logo but the new board should not be configured like that.
