Ah finally a video of an Ambassador in english! Great video! Cheers from the land of Volvo's (Sweden) Who knows, one day I might import one of these in Europe. Looks like a 1950's car but has a more modern and economical drivetrain! People would think it's a diesel converted antique car over here!
you are too kind otto :). i have an affinity for old volvos too :P basically anything pre 2000's. this review was a test review, i didnt thionk id get this much feedback. i plan on doing a series of reviews (proper ones) soon. and yes you are right people would look at this car as a pure vintage machine. but here in india they are plentiful in number. thanks once again and cheers :D

Classy garage u got there:). If only delhi would allow me to keep have 15 yr old cars, I would’ve instantly picked up a used merc like urs and a safari dicor.
thankyou :) isnt there any kind of loophole to use :P so techically the oldest you can go for is a 2003 merc which would be nice too. a bit more complicated but if it was mantained will, maybe.

The best HM Ambassador video on TH-cam, till date! That was the last era when this icon lived happily. The Grand & Avigo didn’t run in good numbers, not even here in Kolkata.
P.s - I've always had a thought of plonking one good engine in an Ambassador (the BMCs never gave me enough chill in my spine) , perhaps any powerful torque mill will do. The 140bhp powertrain from the Mahindra Scorpio is one big bang for the buck, but then I'm not a great fan of diesel rattle buckets. Petrol is the liquidizer for my stacked up thoughts. Anyway, do post more videos on your old "bugger" 🤣. And try to get a set of old chrome orvm.
bro first, thankyou :D and second, YOU READ MY MIND XD i was thinking of an e220 engine itself :P 150 bhp :P but i wouldnt mind any kind of engine. i like things that rattle :P but more imprtantly id need to change the brakes and suspensions for that kind of power ..... the think has only 1 shock on either side ...... no springs or leafs in the front ..... all that braking force with a more powerful engine will cause the shocks to explode from all that pressure XD. i will post a few videos soon. do not have my camera right now. getting one soon. cheers bro
@@Vintagediscipline holy! Talking to someone of the same tastes is the best thing ever. Perhaps its the petrolhead part of our trait that "kicked in yo" 🤣! Anyway, a german engine is always a desirable one for any job. But they cannot be easily sourced. Parts are a big issue too. Ain't coming to price, because that might not be a biggie to many. I like the throatiness of the petrol engines, and perhaps that's why I kinda admire them more than anything . Diesels aren’t any bad though, pretty good for long hauls. I know someone who installed the 1.6l old gen Baleno powertrain in one of his Mark IV Ambassador when its head and block cracked into pieces ( due to water accumulation, according to me) . I forcibly made him upgrade the braking system, made him install Tata Safari calipers, which, to my surprise turned out to be bolt on units. Since the engine isn't all that powerful, I never felt the necessity to do a suspension job, though stiffened up the front springs with new struts. The bouncyness of the rear leafs compensates the ride well. However, our RTO wasn’t too pleased with this build. Even the beautiful white wall tires couldn’t make them smile.
Talking of your build, you can always go with additional struts to support that extra power. Good brakes as equally necessary too. Also, do give a thorough checkup to the alternator of your car. Ambassadors are notorious for this one big issue.
P.s. - I've never driven a diesel Ambassador, legally I can't, because I'm still not an adult. But if this diesel is doing good in this car then there's no need of changing it. Somethings are better left untouched.
Bro ambassador grand has been successful all over india. It was Ambassador Avigo which didn't sell in good numbers
I have a 2002 model amby, Isuzu engine . Registration number is 1. My biggest problem is finding a good mechanic. Always have to go back , twice sometimes for a finished work.

I also have an ambassador of 1940, it has sofa seats in the front and back as well . yes.!!! 1940 it has been 80 years but it is still the king of road. sitting on its seat feels like i am on my king size bed, it has gone old but in my heart it is still the beast....
