That really is the issue here. Though if Warner is smart they'll just go back to the drawing board and fix it. 90% of the issue is the coloring so they just have to hire a person to come in tweat the various colors to give them the correct appearance, through in some randomity as well (leaf colors are different one to the other even if only minutely, easy to fix)

Sam's hysterical giggles where he keeps laughing harder at each more ridiculous idea is the most endearing thing about this group and I never want it to go away
It's super dang good, but the biggest most easily spotted giveaway for the Glock shot being CG in my opinion is the fingers, but mostly the thumbs. I was definitely convinced it was real at first, but once I looked closer at the way the nails lay against the skin, the ridges around the nails, and the way the skin moves (or more accurately, doesn't move) around the knuckles, it got very obvious what I was looking at is CG.
Could you guys take a look at Journey to the Center of the Earth and Journey 2 the Mysterious Island? They're both super cheesy but some of my favorite movies from the late 2000s. I always thought the visuals were pretty good for the time, but I'd like to hear your perspectives.
An episode on how early Xena is different from late Xena, or Doctor Who or maybe even early Walking Dead vs later Walking Dead. Early Xena is guys in masks on set, later Xena is comps and CGI. The difference is amazing. "The Ring" episode from the final season has an amazing creature.
Yo I loved watching Hercules and Xena back in the day! I had a huge crush on Gabrielle and Calypso! Calypso was so hardcore and so freaking hot! Plus it had Bruce Campbell aka Ash Williams from Evil Dead in it as Autolycus and you can't go wrong with any show that has him in it!
A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess who directed Napoleon Dynamite, he also directed Gentlemen Broncos which will give you a good idea of his interpretation of other worlds or other dimensions
It's a studio movie. He likely has very little say in how the movie is going to be made. He gets a script and shoots the scenes. We've seen this before, indie director gets big budget film that ends up being a turd.
You ever watch the minecraft fan film called Dawn? It's only 20 minutes unfortunately, but it has a ton of heart. I would rather watch 2 hours of that than 10 Hollywood movies.
"its so dumb" lmao come on that over the top bike chase is exactly the kind of thing corridor would do for their videos. The torque movie is obviously self aware and having fun with itself, including the product placement
It's just a bad movie. Whether you make a bad movie intentionally or not is irrelevant. It's still a bad movie at the end of the day. Idk why Corridor Crew likes Bollywood movies so much. They're bad in the same exact way. It actually angers me that people give a pass to Bollywood films because it's "intentionally bad". That's just a bs excuse you use when you suck. "Pffft I only lost because I wasn't trying"
@@RealEllenDeGeneres Bollywood movies arent intentionally bad tho? Some moviemakers do think it’s cool what they do and make such shitty movies. Idk what Bollywood movies youve been watching bt the bad ones are just bad. Not intentionally, not cause its funny. It isnt like Torque, they’re not self aware
*Torque* is actually a really good satire of the other action movies of that time period, it just had the misfortune of being so accurate to that over-the-top style that most people don't realize it's meant to be satirical.
A really cool (and often overlooked) example of good cloning is in Friends - any scene with Phoebe and her twin sister Ursula is extremely well done. Especially given it’s a 90s sitcom where there’s usually more or less no effects work.
The Hyper shot is really amusing, because on the first watch you're like "oh that's a nicely animated gun". Then you realise the hands are CGI. Then you realise the background is a flat plate. For me, I noticed the hands were fake based on the nails. They're just a bit too clean and perfect to be real imo.
About the hands in the last segment: The right thumb and basically all fingernails look good but not real. Also, the tendons of the left wrist dont do anything at all when the hand grips the gun and the shooting starts - make the motion and look at your wrist.
@@Captianmex1C0 yeah but the characters are also always backlit so the lighting makes no sense anyway. Also you can just barley see it on the right of the other characters as well so I think it's just really poorly done backlighting from the portal 😭
Two video game movie trailers were released recently, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and A Minecraft Movie. One was a result of acknowledging their mistakes and learning from it, the other one is acknowledging others's mistakes and not learning from it.
Worse product placement than Torque is the unintentionally hilarious Antitrust from 2001 where Pepsi cans are in almost every shot logo out of course and one shot in a chase sequence is a dark corridor where the only light source is a shining Pepsi can machine right in the centre of frame.
I think the worst is still The Terminal, that awful Spielberg movie with Tom Hanks stuck in an airport. Brand stores everywhere, logos more important than the actors and they even praise the products he buys there in the actual dialog (like "oh that is suit looks great on you" - "thanks, it's Hugo Boss"). Absolutely shameless.
Fun fact, the blocks in the teaser trailer is 40% smaller than they should be. The characters are around 3-4 blocks tall. In Minecraft the player is 2 blocks tall. The blocks in Minecraft are 100x100x100 cm. So using the height of Jack Black and Jason Momoa, I calculated the blocks to be around 60x60x60 cm. Jason Momoa is almost 2 meters tall. Yet he is 3-4 blocks tall. Edit: Also, I just noticed now. When they were cutting down the tree they are around two blocks tall. But during the "I AM STEVE" scene the blocks are a lot smaller. And they are even standing beside logs, so either they grew, or the logs got smaller. Also, it feels a lot like a Jumanji clone. Also, when we see from above in the scene where they walk away from the portal (which should be purple, not blue), the shadows look wrong, especially with the guy in front. I would have personally preferred something that looks a lot more like the actual game. For example something similar to the Minecraft: Story Mode stuff, or the old music videos. They should have done it the LEGO movie way, trying to make it look like the actual source material. So it's sad to see that some of the people who worked on the LEGO movie worked on this too. (Read the description of the trailer, it includes some extra info)
Video game movies doesn't work because these people don't play video games they can write the most thrilling stories but they won't capture the feel of the game. The Fallout tv series works because Todd Howard is there to curate the story
They may not be blocks though, there are many, many blocks of various sizes in mine craft, anything from very thin, like carpet to 1 layer of snow and up to taller things, like walls, which are 1.5 blocks tall. And this movie is about people getting sucked into a minecraft world, this world may very well be a modded world. Which may have microblocks or other mods allowing for far, far smaller blocks and building materials. Lol.
@@rdizzy1 What got me was the "dropped block" entity being THAT small and hovering in the middle of the block rather than sitting on the one below; what mod ever changes THAT? Meanwhile microblocks and vanilla's special cases are still in relation to the size of a normal block being the base unit. Changing the scale of normal blocks relative to the characters is cheating more than a bit. @stellviahohenheim I suspect also Fallout may be just plain easier to adapt, having actual lore and stuff, rather than a pile of mechanics you give a story to by playing with them.
@@stellviahohenheim i second guess the "writing" part in your statement that "they can write the most thrilling stories". Most of "their" writing isn't even theirs. I'm pretty sure "A minecraft movie" is created with more A.I. than human labor. But yeah. In most cases. The stories are stolen and altered with minimum effort.
I hope someone at Corridor sees this! I'd love to see some episodes on VFX artists react to SFX. History of the Wilhelm Scream, the amazing film scoring in Nolan films, how SFX pair with VFX and how they can also hurt.
I think the biggest giveaway for me was the light reflections on the fingernails being too similar to the light on the skin. Also, no real shading around the edges of the cuticles. Not reflective and shiny enough
21:44 The hand job was pretty good, but you can tell that it could be animated because the nail looks a little weird, but even with that. that's pretty awesome
That last hand model is might legitimately be the best cgi I've ever knowingly seen EDIT: I can't express to you how much I don't care if it was easy for you to spot, or if you've seen much better. My point still stands as stated and I enjoyed it. Get some sun and have a good day
I would say he screwed up the sunny side of the hand. It reflects to much light and washes out the skin texture to much that once it was pointed out the hand was CG and paid attention to it you can clearly see that it's fake.
10:55 - yes, absolutely this! What makes classic pixar movies and other game films like the lego movie so good is that they had something for everyone. The minecraft movie needs to be a family film rather than a kids' film. Don't judge a book by its cover or a movie by its teaser, but I'm worried they've targeted it solely at children.
The Glock Hopper shot was so good. I'm an artist and i draw hands a lot, so i use and look at A LOT of references. The thing that keyed me off to the whole thing being cgi was the nail on the thumb! It was a little too flat and there's meant to be more light reflecting off the nail, as well as depth to it and even shadow under the nail bed. Brilliant video!
Honestly, in the glock video, it's the shading on the skin that stood out the most. Something about the specular highlights made it look a bit rubbery. That said I didn't notice it at first since I was looking at the gun the whole time but once you pointed out the whole shot was CG it really stood out. Still, absolutely amazing work there!
I find it weird that they decided not to use the same art style and animation quality that Minecraft uses for literally every single animated update trailer that they have released, a Minecraft movie made with that art style and quality would be phenomenal but they went this incredibly uncanny valley route instead for some reason
I had little faith in the minecraft movie to be different from any big blockbuster aimed at children BUT I've kinda kept out a little spark of hope I'd be wrong because the director made Nacho Libre AND Napoleon Dynamite. The Studio may be the one making the decisions here.
So glad you guys finally watched some Hyper stuff. He really is the master of reloads, nothing even compares. And he's in everything. And he's funny. He's just the best
Looking at the "multiplicity" soda clip, you can actually see a super slight jump in the bottom of the glass just as the soda hits the bottom at 17:21 presumably comping in a separate bottom for the glass! Pretty cool!
Yup. They have a series called Beat Down that's kind of what you are talking about. They also have some short fan films. Dying is Easy is probably my favorite from them. There's also a newish film on yt called Logan the Wolf. Viking era X-Men with some incredible fight scenes. That one is probably my all time favorite. As far as minecraft fan films go, Dawn is probably the best.
"The thing that makes it look photoreal is the motion" -- Bingo! I remember back in my rendering days talking to my old boss about Tarkin in Rogue One. He said "Why do they put something out that doesn't look real?" I told him it does look real in stills. It's the motion that gives it away, and our intuitive non-technical brains go "Aha! Bad CG!"

22:23 If you look at the muscles around the forearms and wrists, they're not twitching at all, as if he's not putting any pressure to stop the gun from recoiling. That's the biggest indicator to me 🤷♂️.
I’m not gonna lie; I was just as impressed and blown away soon as “all of it is” came out his mouth.
11:04 "There is a fork in the road to the left is Snow White to the right is Minecraft where do you go?"
me: "Back where I came from."
nope, going somewhere else now
me: "off the road, hopefully towards my imminent end."
I think would be more fun to watch the movie Rubber (2010), again..
A homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession. ; )
Almost every other Minecraft fan animation looks so much better than the Minecraft Movie trailer simply because they would go full-time animated or fully live-action, no uncanny in-between
That really is the issue here.
Someone making a Minecraft movie with in-game recordings would still look better than the official attempt...
Even the cardboard ones
I remember someone saying it’d be better if it just looked like story mode, or the update trailers
I love how they reacted to the trailer with the MOST seriousness, just to then start laughing at it at the end.
My friend is taking me through a bunch of classic movies that I haven't seen! (The Thing, They Live, Mouth of Madness, and a bunch of others) And I'm now able to appreciate SO MUCH MORE the videos you guys have made on those movies.
It felt nice being able to point out some behind the scenes stuff for how a shot was done in Thing that he was a bit wrong about. You guys are amazing and you bring happiness to me in so many facets of life with your videos!
Can you guys take a look at Being John Malkovich? Specifically the scene where *spoiler* John Malkovich goes into the portal. Lots of clever framing, doubles, and practical effects.
Oh my God yes they need to look at that restaurant scene! It was phenomenal yet so hilarious to watch! I could not believe they were able to put that many Malkovich's into one shot! MALKOVICH!!😂
Was waiting eagerly for this Episode after the podcast. The Minecraft Movie trailer deserves all the critique it can get
I was the same. Can't wait to see Ren's Minecraft video when it drops tomorrow.
Hyper didnt do ALL the "Call of duty reload animations". Hyper is part of the animations team of Infinity Ward so he did some of the animations of MW 2019, MWII and MWIII (which is by another studio but reuses content from the previous games)
Hyper became the lead animation director at Infinity Ward after MW2019 I believe
@@ClayAlmighty i dont think so
I know you try not to disrespect movies/artists too often but I sure love it when you get critical and trash talk. This was one of my favorite episodes.
Yes! That would be great!
the venus fly traps scared the shit out of me as a kid
I would love to see them cover some classic Troma. It's all practical effects and super campy.
Part 1 was great, part 2 was eh.
Multiplicity is an underated gem. Loved that movie when I was younger.
Sorbo is the man.
Later Xena also has a lot of gravity involved.
13:26 I LOVE MULTIPLICITY! 🖤🖤🖤 and Michael Keaton!
13:35 I love multiplicity. I saw an early screener for this!
@@RSpracticalshooting Yep, that's how it is, direct this crappy movie and get your paycheck. 💰💰💰💰
wtf
How’d they get the nacho libre guy to make that looks nothing like his movies
Square Bones would be a terrible and brilliant alternative name for Minecraft. 8:40
Honestly, it'd be the perfect name for some kind of necromancy themed game that pays some homage to voxel styles.
4:44 can @CorridorCrew save Minecraft movie just like Sonic movie???🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
jordan seems like the most suited to teach a masterclass out of all the crew. gl
10:50 I love the what he said.
We deserve a good movie
It’s good dumb like the ghost rider movies
*Torque* is actually a really good satire of the other action movies of that time period, it just had the misfortune of being so accurate to that over-the-top style that most people don't realize it's meant to be satirical.
@@RealEllenDeGeneres Lighten tf up.
A really cool (and often overlooked) example of good cloning is in Friends - any scene with Phoebe and her twin sister Ursula is extremely well done. Especially given it’s a 90s sitcom where there’s usually more or less no effects work.
I've never heard of Torque but it went on my "to watch" list IMMEDIATELY.
EDIT: YOOOOO HYPER ON CORRIDOR
Jordan going "Noo" for the Glopper short when he was told it was all 100% CGI was the absolute best.
Exactly, I was gonna say that the nails look too similar to the rest of the hands
This is literally the first time I saw Hyper animation where hands are not covered. I believe he can do even better
I didn't get why they were freaking out over how real they looked, I could tell the arms were fake almost immediately
The Glock one was absolutely mind-blowing, great job to the guy that made it.
If you pause at 7:22 you can see the shimmer of the green screen through the actress' hair.
hahahaha!
It's either that or it's supposed to be the glow from the portal
@@Oboreru493 it’s supposed to be glow, but for some reason it’s turqoise instead of cyan
@@Oboreru493I don't think it's a glow, Look at the steps in front of the portal, There's no blue light, It's perfect concrete
@@Captianmex1C0 yeah but the characters are also always backlit so the lighting makes no sense anyway. Also you can just barley see it on the right of the other characters as well so I think it's just really poorly done backlighting from the portal 😭
I just started watching “Trigger Warning” on Netflix and if you want to laugh at some VFX and CGI this movie has what you need. Love you guys.
"This is THE movie...." *Dies of laughter*
I hope someone at Corridor sees this! I'd love to see some episodes on VFX artists react to SFX. History of the Wilhelm Scream, the amazing film scoring in Nolan films, how SFX pair with VFX and how they can also hurt.
bruh i could immediately tell those hands were CG. It's the texture of the hands, the lighting, all subtly too 'clean' and perfect
specifically, the fingernails, you can tell they lack depth
It is off, but it gets many elements right that it's still impressive how much detail was put into the animation and textures.
So overhyped, looked cg straight away
I think the biggest giveaway for me was the light reflections on the fingernails being too similar to the light on the skin. Also, no real shading around the edges of the cuticles. Not reflective and shiny enough
@@siymann Still better CG than anything I've ever seen before. I thought it was real until they said it was CG.
watching Sam reference disney channel was peak comedy 😂
Peak comedy? Holy crap.
7:27 Jason has the look of “ I should of asked for more money”
21:44 The hand job was pretty good, but you can tell that it could be animated because the nail looks a little weird, but even with that. that's pretty awesome
22:20 Jordan: "I mean, shoot..." an underrated pun I hope others caught as well
That last hand model is might legitimately be the best cgi I've ever knowingly seen
EDIT: I can't express to you how much I don't care if it was easy for you to spot, or if you've seen much better. My point still stands as stated and I enjoyed it. Get some sun and have a good day
I would say he screwed up the sunny side of the hand. It reflects to much light and washes out the skin texture to much that once it was pointed out the hand was CG and paid attention to it you can clearly see that it's fake.
It's good, but I could tell the meaty part under the right thumb was CGI. It was too shiny compared to the rest of the skin and the texture was off.
there's one thing ever more fake than those hands, it's their reaction
Literally anything Denis Villeneuve put out looks better than that lmao
@@mightheal You're right, it's certainly not perfect. But I only said "best I've ever knowingly seen", which is still the case in my opinion
Unfortunately, it feels worse than that to me. It feels like they've targeted it at what 50 year olds think gen z would like.
Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Stretch armstrong scene and the transition of snowcapped mountain to office room scene.
Jack Black has been doing the same character in all his movies and private life for 20 years now
21:59 what is missing - sunlight moving through thin layers of tissue.
at 19:10 The nails are the biggest give away for me, they look very rendered
We need to "Sonic" the Minecraft movie so much!!!
sadly, i doubt they will re-animate all the actors in Minecraft format after all the money already spent
Look at his arm at 16:29 though 🤦♂️😁
Hyper's best animation is the unused Titanfall 2 execution where the pilot dabs on the enemy.
I had little faith in the minecraft movie to be different from any big blockbuster aimed at children BUT I've kinda kept out a little spark of hope I'd be wrong because the director made Nacho Libre AND Napoleon Dynamite. The Studio may be the one making the decisions here.
But it's widely known that Hollywood still looks down on video games media, they still think they're three biggest in entertainment
Hess also directed Thelma the Unicorn that came out this year. Considering how that one went, I'd suggest you lower your expectations way, way down.
Torque was the coolest thing ever back then.
1:18 omg that looked so stupid
You guys should use all the special camera shots you’ve been using (like shooting a camera) and cgi to create a superhero fight!
You might check out Bat in the Sun while you're waiting.
@@radagast7200 is that on yt?

Surely it's not just me but the hands looked clearly CG in the reload animation
I thought so too, I was literally saying to look at the thumb because that gave it away to me
yea I thought they looked like really high budget video game hands lol
Yeah, I watched it on the phone in 480p and even I always thought it's CGI - the light and the arm hair was clearly computer generated.
Really? The only thing that gave it away for me were the nails. Other than that, this might be the most convincing cg I have seen in my life.
@@xristosxi393 That "perfect skin shader" has way too much SSS and not enough roughness and IOR variation.
7:44 Why haven’t they mentioned the glowing cube that was used in their early fan film? There’s no way that is just coincidence.

they mentioned it in a community post when it came out
At 17:15 it looks like the transition is actually at the end of the wrist rather than inside the glass. Awesome breakdown as always guys!
Bad CG!"
Yo why does the video freeze at 6:13 when the sheep shoes up? This happened consistently on three reloads! Realistic MC sheep is so cringe it breaks youtube.
Didn't happen bere
@@FundamSrijan maybe it's just my computer that's saying fak no to the abomination lol
That gun reload I thought looked like a video game, especially the hands, and was surprised when all 3 thought it looked photo real.

The reload is incredible. The thing that convinced me it’s CG after looking closely is the fingertips/fingernails. They’re too perfect.
