@@BigBeter NK_ is an awesome company, love dealing with the crew there - also would love to visit since they are located up in W. Virginia. They are enthusiast that have made the hobby/addiction more open to those curious about it. I still main my NK65 Entry and it has been my favorite board since the day I got it.
I really like that NK is trying to offer great starter boards for a competitive price in the market space. Hopefully they start offering boards with different mounting styles and layouts for a competitive price later
I mean, they've had the NK65 and NK65 EE for over a year. The pandemic made keeping them stocked hard, but they were stocked constantly. This one just brought custom TKLs to an affordable-ish price. I still think you'd get more bang for you buck spending $10 on the KBDFans x ai03 8X Mk.II at $289 for the kit. Sure doesn't come with case and accessories, but you get better materials and mounting options (default is top mount, but can be o-ring gasket mounted). Even better yet, the Freebird TKL is going to set the bar for entry boards with their TKL.
The Q3 at 170$ might just give good competition to the drop ctrl, meanwhile the ducky one 3 tkl is 150$, so there won't be a compelling reason to get that also Btw,have you seen the fl eSports cmk87? 130$ for hotswap wireless tkl,it has a plastic case but with a metal weight at the bottom
I've been looking for an aluminum TKL with gaskets and per key RGB. The Q3 seems to be the best option for me personally (prefer it's side profile more than NK87 - hard to pick those up)
Very, very excited that the NK87, Keychron Q3, and the Freebird TKL all being offered at an EXTREMELY competitive price, it just makes the whole game better for everyone.
As someone who’s had metal and polycarb customs, the difference really isn’t too much of an issue for me. I prefer the look of frosted poly and the deeper sound signature is a cherry on top.
So happy to see more and more TKL options showing up. Currently on 65% but with my current workflow I'm realizing that TKL suits me better. Here's to more TKL boards!
Really glad you brought up the improvement in PBT sets. I've tried giving ABS sets a try but just don't like the texture and it's nice to see someone bring that up. Dealing with group buys is becoming more of a headache.
I put together a beige cerakote NK87 with Kailh Box Navy clicky switches and the Cherry Stone keycaps. I hit 128wpm on Monkeytype with it. Probably my new favorite keyboard. It also weighs 6 pounds, good grief. Cool prank to try on friends; tell them a beige NK87 is just some "random junk you found on eBay for $40", and then casually hand it to them. :)
Another Banger Friend! I just modded my Aqua Kings with a POM stem. Holy crap, deep low sound and smoother than Brad Pitt on a cougar cruise Insane amount of value for a solid board. NK revolutionized entry level 65% boards now they're doing it with a TKL.
Hi, I really appreciate your channel and your straight to the point delivery, Usually black or white and not a whole lot of grey. You seem to have the Mode 80 in grip because of its price but for someone looking for a premium board with an awesome sound AND flex (new 2022 model with isolated top and half-plate) that can be had without winning a raffle or waiting for a year it’s a tradeoff I’m gladly ready to make. Easier availability and customizable do come with a price… I tried to get a Mr Suit twice and was waiting for GB for Vertex Angle but after hearing it I just decided I’ve had enough. Entry vs premium of course there’s bound to be a price difference. Is a premium board worth it? That’s a whole different topic 😉 Keep the good work and let’s agree to disagree on the Mode 80 😜
2022 is gearing up to be the year of the TKL it seems. I think the best part of this board is the fact that it's hotswap, a rarity for "enthusiast" level TKL's.
Exciting to see tkl customs in the sub 200 price range! We had the 60% hype, the 65% hype, currently in the 75% hype, and now maybe tkl hype? Also so funny that 2 years ago brass plates were the rage, and now flex is considered the best. It's nice to see that our move to flex and PC cases has led us to boards like this though
Brass plates were never the rage...... at least with people who knew better. PC cases still aren't popular, it's completely dominated by aluminum in the custom realm.
Both of these are on deep discount/clearance. I know there are 'better' options out. But for the NK87 Entry at $75 and the NK87 Aluminum (Batch 1's) now at $135 its worth buying. Adding some O-rings to the stabilizers for PCB issues wasn't a hard task and overall Im happy with mine :) Great review!
I've been looking alot of keyboards but most of the are gasket with tons of flex for pcbs really designed for people who type on linears. I don't, and people will say you can still mod a keyboard designed to make tactiles go with it, but this just provides a great out of the box and cheaper option, that will work great with tactiles and it's a great looking board and you can do a tempest or pe foam mod if you desire.
Wait wait wait…you’re telling me that Brian has a god-level beard, infinite knowledge of keeb, AND knows his wines? This legend just keep getting more legendary 👌
damn that entry edition sounds way better than the aluminum version. crazy! waiting on my space80 and protozoa frost tkl to come in but these are great alternatives in the tkl category
Novelkeys really raised their game on packaging this year, switches and now keebs. Really nice. I think they increased their shipping prices a lot to compensate for the new packaging, but kudos to them delivering a premium experience
Wish they'd restock the black nk65 v2 alot of people hate the aluminum but I got mine to sounds amazing no rattle no case ping good thoc using lubed tealous v2 sounds amazing
Ugh I've been sitting here with carts ready to checkout on 3 sites. Keychron Q1/Q2, NovelKeys NK87ee, KBDFans Kbd67 Lite, Kprepublic (for Domikey caps). The price is just climbing so rapidly it's insane. Even with a basic board like the NK87EE I'm looking at nearly $500CAD if I get some above average caps. Am I doing something wrong? Feels wrong to spend this much and have a polycarb build at the end of it. I'm currently on a 75% Niz and I enjoy it, but I've always been curious about smooth linear MX. I'm leaning towards TKL just to have something different from 75%. Maybe I should wait for the Q3? I've already ordered and received my Gat CJ switches, they're admittedly a bit expensive but they seemed worth it. Even a simple NK87EE is going to cost me $230 CAD ($50 USD shipping yikes). Add the money spent on switches and I'm already at $350cad and I still have no keycaps. Maybe I order PBT Stone caps along with the NK87, despite it being kinda boring it seems of decent quality. That's another $100. Still cheaper than Domikeys though..
EDIT: I've decided on some AKKO asa caps in the mean time, $70 shipped they will be the cheapest component of the build by far! So CJ Switches, NK87ee, and Akko caps and I'm out the door for only $420CAD! I was looking forward to completing my first build so I could try and encourage my friends to get involved, but at this price I'll be keeping it to myself and hope nobody asked how much I spent.
I literally just bought one of these as a beater commuting board because im sick f carrying an aluminium board in my backpack its heavy af and hopefully this is better.
Interested to see this compared to the Q3 and FB tkl, glad to see we finally have good options at a reasonable price (as reasonable as custom keyboards can be)
The boards aside, which sounds great imo, I'm happy to see different keycap colorways and sets become more readily available. I've joined a few group buys and GMK is so behind it's not even funny, and the KAT Atlantis set I joined maybe 2 years ago now is also delayed. I'll take a good enough keycap set with some cool novelties and colors any time. GMK camping r2 really killed my vibe with the insane price.
I've been looking for a TKL and damn that Entry Edition looks good and has some insane value. I just bought an Ikki68 though, so I'll have to wait. I hope they keep them around.

Burned too many times by nk's spotty qc in the past, so I won't personally be scooping this up for myself or anyone else... But it's nice to see them hit this price point.
if you are concerned about losing the weight in your NK87 entry instead of removing your bottom silicone try tape modding the PCB, it will give it some life. and btw the aqua kings are not that loud on their own, so I would suggest different switches.
