Great singer and musician. Josie lived just down the road from my Aunt in Coolmine near Ballyfarnon Co Roscommon. I saw him play many times when on holiday from England
I met Josie many times when I was a young lad in the 1970s. He even taught me to sing a few of his songs! A tape recording of Josie was made by my late father Terry Kelly, of Corglancy, Dromahair. My dad was a brother-in-law of Alphie Dinnen, renowned accordion player who played with Josie for years. My dad was learning clarinet at the time and he and Alphie went over to Josie's and asked him to play the clarinet. My dad had a reel to reel tape recorder with him and this is the result. My dad said this was Josie on the clarinet but it sounds a bit more like his alto sax to me. Not a perfect recording but hopefully of interest as the content is unusual. My father bought the clarinet in 1972 and died in 1983, so that's as close as I can be on the dates. RIP JOSIE. LINK: th-cam.com/video/OIU_hvGckHo/w-d-xo.html
Anyone know if there is a commercially available copy of this? Or detailed credits for the sources of the clips that RT4 used? I am trying to track down the original footage of McDermott playing the saxaphone at 11:48.
Fabulous video!
A treasure. Thanks for posting.
