I was initially super excited for this until i learned that they made no changes to the inner frame. Most 20+ year old kits haven't aged well, but the Kampfer specifically has aged very poorly, ESPECIALLY the knees. When it comes to things like seam lines, color accuracy, or nub placements, a bit of work can fix it, but there isn't much you can do to fix bad articulation.
@@travisfranz703as a hug fan of this mobile suit im very satisfied with the kit. Its by far the oldest ive built and the only one ive done thats used screws, its a bit tricky at times for how simple it is but after painting the in my opinion ugly gray and green weapons, i love it.
Just a heads up theres a miss print in the instructions in the first batch of released kits (which seems you got since it looks to be missing the leg thrusters in the new leg armor) that dont show you adding the new thrusters to the new leg armor. But if go to the p-bandai preorder Schwer page of the May-Sep closed preorder (USA/english page) itll show the correction for the manual which shows you needed to add parts A1 6&7 to the part J2 11 in the 6(10) section of the manual and parts A1 9&10 to the part J2 11 in the section of 7(7) of the build manual. It seems they didnt make a large enough announcement for people to hear about this.
The Kampfer is so cool, and so well liked, it completely boggles my mind they haven’t made a 2.0 for this release. Make a 2.0 normal one and then a handful of variations
I was so hyped seeing someone show this when it popped up on p-bandai thinking it was a 2.0. Instantly deflated like Squidward seeing that it's a kit that's almost as old as me instead
What I would like to see on an updated MG Kampfer (if they ever wanted to make one) is how they would tackle the thighs. Dem thicc thighs have no cut for swivels without some thigh armor separation/layering, so a layered thigh armor that allow the thigh to rotate separately from the armor would be cool to see 🤔🤔🤔
@@flamestoyershadowkill Let me explain : Kampfer's bulky thigh consists of the outer armor that connects to the butt thruster, and the inner thigh that was concealed inside the outer armor. The design of the inner thigh (without the outer armor) on Kampfer's concept art is just like Zaku's, so why not utilize Zaku's thigh and somehow connect the outer armor on to the top of the thigh joint so that the thigh could rotate separately? They can engineer it like Gundam Mk.V's thigh 🤷♂️
Just finished this kit. I did a full custom Metallic paint on the original MG Kamfer, and it turned out gorgeous!! When i saw this release, i immediately preordered. After building it, I am disappointed the build form wasnt properly updated. It looks AMAZING, but i agree its just not on par with current MGs. Bandai needs to release a 2.0 of the standard Kamfer!
woah woah woah, i remember when the kampher was new. i was so juiced to build it, it was so different with those cool looking shotguns. crazy, slightly painful that it was 23 years ago lol
You want a pump on a shot gun for a mobile suit for the same reason you want a pump on a shotgun for a person. ammo. could you have the ammo loaded automatically? sure? could you have the weapon pump itself? sure. but both of those options are expensive. maybe if this were a federation suit then you'd have auto shotguns, but this is a zion suit. Zion was shoveling money at mobile suit design. i somehow doubt there was much of a budget to resign 1 weapon on one mobile suit for Ace pilots. also note that this suit in particular came out near the end of the one year war.
There is a syep missing in the instructions for the new thrusters on the legs. The instructions never have you place the verniers in them though they are included
Cool kit but I don't feel like I need a second MG Kampfer. It always looked good on paper (or on the box) but didn't much like this mech in kit form. The weaponry loadout is identical to the stock kit. The Sturmfausts attach to the knee joints facing forward though. BTW, as someone who started building gundams in 1997, while the new kits are fantastic, there really isn't much to complain about with the older kits. Try some of the vintage car or plane models tooled in the early 1970s and then get back to me, lol.
I did model kits in the 90’s, it was a mess of parts that didn’t match and had to be glued while a dozen vices kept it together. You were lucky if there was more than one color plastic. And if you played warhammer you’d have to deal with metal assembly and customization. However, 00 vs 23 Bandai are night and day. Even 2010 and 23 are miles apart in how quickly Bandai improved their RG line. Just because other model hobbies did (and still do) it worse does not mean you can’t have expectations of Bandai. Sure, appreciate what we have today, stay humble and be thankful, but let’s not pretend that they didn’t evolve their designs a ton since then.
@@Smilomaniac The modern designs are much, much better, but every master grade kit I've ever built has been excellent and aside from polycaps which everyone hates, I feel like it's only in comparison to the newer kits that the older MG ones are "bad", granted that I've only built under 10 of them, but when I got them in the 90s I was blown away by the details and instantly in love. I get that the original kämpfer is old, and doesn't hold up to modern standards, but it's still a great kit. Something that surprised me was the grip of the old-fashioned hands. I've built 2 kits with them so far, and they both have a fine grip on their weapons.
While it looks awesome, I value build quality over aesthetics in the end. That's why I love 30 Minutes Missions, they may be simple designs but they are rock solid and feel great to handle. Older kits make me feel like I'm handling egg shells.
Should i put on Mate Topcoat first, then Waterslides, then another mate topcoat for finish ? Or waterslides on bare plastic then finished with the mate topcoa ?
The typical order is actually gloss coat>decals>optional second gloss coat to seal them in>final matte coat The gloss coat gives the decals a solid, flat surface to lay down on, but even that's optional. Bare plastic is usually okay, but not ideal. There's usually no reason to do a matte coat first, really, unless you're trying to create a specific weathering effect or something.

Frustrating.
i really wish they would release at least a 1.5 for the Kampfer like they did for the Dom. The original is just so disappointing
i wanted to get this but after seeing this i just pass. Its funny and sad because the 2022 dom while not getting a full 2.0 rework still had new stuff that made it worth building. This Kampfer isnt even a 1.25 version.
it sucks that the build is so janky, because the thing LOOKS beautiful
If u want this for building experience, then its not for you. I bought this for the end product. Just stand there menacingly on my shelves is good enough for me. 😁
Dopest Build kit so far. Shame that the actual, well, build is pretty crappy, lol.
