Have visited the Blasket from the late 80s to present day, the peace back before the modern ferry system is not there so much now in the summer. The Laird of Staffa was the first real ferry boat other than the punts and dinghies in my time, I had a wonderful experience one wknd in August in the early 90s, it rained from the time I set foot and pitched my tent in the ruins of Chriomhthains house, behind Dunleavys, anyway on the Saturday evening the rain stopped for a bit, and I got out and went up to the well for a drop of water to make a mug of tea, the wet grass soaked my jeans legs as I made my way up, and then for a brief moment I heard someone playing a squeeze box and it brought the village alive just as I passed the King's house, well I got my tea and hunk of bread and the rain began again. Sunday afternoon it cleared and the sun shone right into late September. But by then I was many miles away from the beautiful Blasket Island.

Back 1999 I stayed in the hostel on the island one of the best nights in a hostel. I also met Sue.

I remember another year a chap there was building a Naiveoge, Sue was there and the new house Peig lived in was in ruins there was a ships bell hanging from a window beam, I remember a grand chap named Mick Downes, I think he was heading of to Iceland to live the following year.
