Actually, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Everyone was in shock. Everyone was just reacting on autopilot. I can’t fault them for not ending the show. Yes, it would have been nice and respectful but a sudden death can be such a shock I can imagine them not concerning themselves with the optics and just operating on instinct. No one had ever suggested a protocol on what they would do if a performer died on the show, because they truly never for saw that happening. Now it is in the company handbook what to do.

It only looks really bad in hindsight and with contemporary moral wokescolding in mind. It was definitely the wrong call, but in the moment when you've got tens of thousands of people in an arena and hundreds of thousands on PPV, I legit don't think Vince was thinking about money. He was just thinking about what you even do in that situation. It's easy to say "Send them home, cancel the PPV" but that's not realistic at all. In the real world, there are a lot more moving parts.

A stupid match like Cena vs Laurinaitis was the main event at Over the limit. He did not get the main event in wrestlemaina when he was the champion because Vince wanted Rock vs Cena part 2. This is what made him sick of them. There is no point of being champion for that long when you are still treated as no big deal, with no main events at all. That was stupid on WWE's part. Sometimes Vince is good, sometimes he is bad.
A few of the goods moments I picked up.
Vince paid for Andre’s medical treatment.
Vince thought of milking the Mankind character but allowed Mick Foley to do his Dude Love gimmick. If Vince was that bad, he would have denied Mick Foley’s dream request.
Sherri Martell passed away and it was revealed that Vince McMahon paid for the headstone and demanded to not receive credit for it.
(Quite a lot of Vince's former employees have had kind things to say about his attitude towards the talent. Spike Dudley noted in shoot interviews that one of the reasons the cruiserweight division in WWE never rose to the heights the WCW version did was that Vince was genuinely worried the style would end up severely injuring someone. Likewise, when Joey Mercury was originally let go from WWE, Vince apparently personally sat down with him and told him that he (and the company) were genuinely worried Joey would die due to his drug issues if WWE continued to subject him to the rigours of a full touring schedule.)
(When Harley Race passed away, it came to light via Trevor Murdoch (a former WWE superstar and student of Race's) that he needed to be transported by helicopter to receive treatment for his failing condition. His insurance wouldn't even entertain the thought of spending the money for it, so out of desperation, a call was made to WWE. 10 minutes later, the flight was paid in full. Vince would have undoubtedly had a word in that decision and as Murdoch put it, "He didn't even blink an eye. He wanted to make sure Harley was taken care of".)
(It was rumored that after Brock Lesnar broke The Undertaker's streak, Undertaker collapsed backstage and was rushed to the hospital. in 2020's Undertaker: The Last Ride, it was not only confirmed that Vince and Lesnar both went to his hospital, they also followed the ambulance that 'Taker was in. Vince left the biggest show of his company just to make sure Undertaker was alright.)
(After he left WWE, Bryan Danielson (who had nothing but good things to say about Vince and his time in WWE) revealed in an interview that Vince was very protective of him in an almost fatherly way. His match against Drew Gulak at Elimination Chamber 2020 made Vince very upset with the-then Daniel Bryan when he came backstage afterwards- not because the match wasn't good, but because during it Bryan had taken a German suplex from Gulak badly and landed on his head (always something scary with Bryan having only returned from a medically-mandated retirement a few years earlier). Vince told Bryan "The match was great, but you can't do that!")

I watched a documentary on the Owen Hart accident and was appalled. I have rudimentary training in confined space entry which uses harnesses often like what Owen was wearing. If the proper, universal safety checks were done properly, Owen would could be wrestling today. Owen should have had proper training to ensure his equipment was correct and he could check it (self-check) a second or even third team member should have checked it (two in this case since Owen was not trained) and a third check/verification should have been done by whoever was leading the team lowering him down. There should have been an equipment checklist completed. This system has saved so many lives in my experience. It's a tragedy and should have never happened.

    • @lapactic7353
      @lapactic7353 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Checklist wouldn't have helped? You should know the lewmar quick release shackle had no safety, a new born could pull it out. It was released by Owen just wriggling. You'd never use such a shackle to hold any form of weight in a life or death situation. Checking the equipment 100 times wouldn't have prevented the ignorance of the stunt coordinator thinking such a shackle was safe.
Once they decided to use that quick release shackle no amount of checks, verification or anything would have prevented his death.

I kind of see it from both sides. I’m pretty sure if Alundra Blaze didn’t straight up disrespect Vince & the company by throwing their belt in the trash on live tv from the set of your biggest rival then things could’ve been different. That was truly shitty on her side. It’s bad enough they’re dropping dimes on what’s going to happen on your show on a weekly basis.
If they knew that Bret didn’t want to drop it to Shawn & that he would’ve dropped to someone else...then why not let him drop it to someone else? Hell Austin would’ve been perfect. Restart the feud the way they lead into WM13 & have Austin come out on top. I think it was WM13. That’s been forever ago & I’m sure plenty will correct me if I’m wrong. I’m sure there are a couple more wrestlers that he could’ve dropped it to, but those would have been the best options in my opinion. Hell they could’ve given it right back to Shawn not long after Bret left. I guess Vince just has to be Vince at all cost & shine at all cost.

Going on after Owen's death and The Undertakers Wrestlemania streak being broken are legitimately the worst decisions WWF/WWE has ever done.

So you put those 2 up at the top? Ending a fake staged fight record based on a script is almost equal to a man dying? You wrestling fans need to get a grip on reality and go take some adult education classes.

False. WWF/E would have been fine without him. That was Vince’s Senior plan, to have territories co exist. Only Hogan thinks he’s that important, cuz he’s an egomaniac. Pro wrestling would still exist, without that poser.

I don't disagree with Wrestlemania 36 in 2020 happening. If it didn't, we wouldn't see 74 year old, turning 75 years old later that year, Vince Mcmahon jump about 20 feet on a mat for the company he loves and Undertakers retirement match against AJ Styles alongside Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. In fact, if WWE kept it in the actual stadium with fans instead of the performance center for just ONE more week on the 16th March 2020 episode of Monday Night Raw, "316 Day" would've been a lot better to watch and less boring
. We couldve had a massive crowd pop.
