I am a huge fan of Cyclops as a character, so it doesn't matter much for me whether or not he is considered a powerful at MC. I'll still be playing him. What I'm interested about is a tip or two on how to best synergize him with To Me My X-men card. And who are the best X-men allies there is.
Play him as a support to your allies. It's super fun and unique. Stay in alter ego - you basically have 7 cards in hand. Danger room, x mansion, and ally buffs are all you need. Flip up at the right time to shred enemies. Pick an aspect based on what you want to buff your allies with. You're missing out if you haven't tried him this way.
I think the Visor / tactic mechanic is a good balancing act for him. No hero has a card that says exhaust and do 3 damage and then still be able to do their activation. He has several methods to recur the tactics once in the discard pile, can add additional ones to his deck, search his deck for one in alter ego and basically almost guarantee himself one each draw when he has his upgrades, supports and allies on the table.
@@zeroisnine Again I said no hero has a card that says exhaust it and do 3 damage and still have their activation. The element gun requires a resource to be spent and that was my point. Star Lord has to spend a resource for the damage. Cyclops had to have an upgrade attached. Balance.
But his attack + optic blast is doing just 4 damage per turn. It takes a minimum of 2 cards to make that happen (1 upgrade, 1 discard). Captain America can do 4 damage with only 1 discard, and without the clunky setup.
As a 4 player MC gamer I have to say I totally agree with all the weaknesses you pointed out for Cyclops. His beam ability is pretty much useless unless you have his visor, and his visor can be taken away by his obligation, so you almost don't want to play it until you see the obligation (let the obligation go fetch it for you.) There are some Aspect Card Upgrades that attach to Minions and satisfy his power beam requirement, but I haven't figured out how to make that work yet. His ability to have Allies from all aspects sounds good on paper, until you realize you have a Leadership build, and that "Power of Leadership" only counts as 1 resource towards that Justice or Aggression Ally. You totally hit the nail on the head that the current pool of X-men Allies is way too expensive, I hope the Leadership cards coming in the Storm pack will help this somewhat. Another great video as usual, keep it up!
I absolutely HATE that he can’t place a permanent upgrade attachment on the main villain. Even using Field Commander is pointless because placing a “permanent upgrade” on a chump 4 damage minion is pointless to do. Most minions go down in a single turn anyways so having a tactic attached to them is a waste of economy. I just don’t get it.
I love Cyclops, I would have preferred his deckbuilding to be: "When deck building, choose either X-Men allies or Tactics upgrades. You may include the chosen type from any aspect into your deck" It would have kept his same "leading the X-Men" vibe while opening up him to more possibilities once the X-Men cycles are done. Because as it stands right now, once they are done we won't see many more xmen allies, stagnating him.
I think Cyclops is way better in multiplayer. But there are still some advantages he has in solo. I found myself hard muliganing for his upgrade that gives him first turn. Because it turns off temporary. Once I can get that on the field the whole game changes. On the few games I've had, where that's been on the bottom it's been rough. Otherwise I think he's a good all around hero. The best Multiplayer hero for X-men so far. And 2nd best Solo hero. He allows for a leadership style build in every aspect. Which is super unique. With that being said. I also completely understand your points. He does take a considerable amount of piloting, and his tactics mechanic can be disrupted. But once you get a feel for him, he is quite fun. I put him at a solid A/A- for now. But that could change.
Scott was the stuffy erstwhile leader of the XMen until Wolverine came along. So thematic? Great with three/four players not that the vast majority of players will ever see that. If this is what FFG wants they should do more to encourage it. In 2H he’s a solid support for the other guy. He’s a good hero but I suspect you need to deck build him with an eye toward cost mitigation and card draw.
Meh, so clunky for true solo…..full blast, cost of 1, exhaust cyclops, need an upgrade on an enemy…..I’ll take swinging webkick thanks. I’ll also take my free resource when in alter ego thanks, and play ingenuity for the same cost as a visor but I can use it for anything.
Do you LIKE anybody? I watch your reviews and I haven't seen one video where you actually like and have 0 problems with. Who do you think is the best character ?
There is no perfect character so there will always be problems. But I have a whole ranking list video of every hero. Explains my favorite heroes. But to answer your question. Yes I have a ton I like. Noticing a design issue or a problem with a character doesn’t equate to me not liking them.
@@D20Woodworking there is one character I would say is perfect though. Most peoples problem with him is that he is too over powered and that's Doctor Strange. A good percentage of people think he is to easy to win...isn't the point to win
That’s awesome that you enjoy him that much. Obviously, I’m not a fan if you’ve seen my videos and that’s what makes this game so great. We all don’t have to agree on heroes as there are so many that fit so many different tastes.
@@bazlnga3433 If they release a Hero who has the ability "Hero Action: You defeat the Villain and win the game" would that be the best Hero ever according to you? This is an extreme example, but it should illustrate why people don't like Dr Strange despite being decidedly the most powerful. Winning is not the primary point of a game, having fun is the primary point of a game.
The thing is, and don't take this the wrong way, but I actually watch your reviews because you are pretty critical. There are other youtubers I watch, (and also enjoy) and they tend to be more hype about decks so you get 25 minutes of "and this card is cool too!" I enjoy both perspectives and even if I don't always agree with either it's helpful when you're trying to objectively analyze the game. So don't change, whether you're saying something good and bad just be honest like you have been. It's helpful.
